Re Meghan and Kate being friends or not, I agree that their lives have been very different and they may not naturally have much in common. But they are now sharing an almost unique set of circumstances and I think that having a strong bond would only be of benefit to both their families.

Pupsiecola · 25/11/2018 20:49

We have two boys. Currently early and mid teens. In fact similar ages to PW and PH when their mum died which always makes me feel so sad. My boys are incredibly close. They have their moments of course, but generally they are best friends. Total opposites and I think that's why it works. DH and I would be really sad if any future relationships changed the dynamic between them. I don't believe there are rifts between PW and PH. I think they've been through so much together.

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/11/2018 21:16

Kate and Meghan looked friendly enough when they attended Wimbledon together. They might not be BFFs but I'm sure they get on reasonably well.

They're both intelligent, capable women with their own spheres of interest and it's silly that the tabloids are trying to push a narrative that pits them against each other.

Why would somebody who presumably does not know the woman personally, a woman who isn’t a public figure, a woman who is rarely interviewed, rarely if ever on tv ie Amal Clooney be disliked by some random people? I’d understand somebody might not think she is amazing (FWIW I don’t think she is amazing or appalling either as I know very very little about her). but to dislike her? I’m honestly bewildered by this. It reminds me of an elderly relative of mine who can only be described as cranktankerous who dislikes many people he knows as well as many people he doesn’t yet has strong perceptions about, it is baffling.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 25/11/2018 22:56

Wow! So much of Amal's daywear is exceptional. Evening wear, not so much - which surprised me.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 25/11/2018 23:11

I hope this does not turn into a celebrity fashion thread, I really like the fact this thread is about the royals.

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/11/2018 23:12

Amal's daywear is what I wear to work in my imagination. In reality I'm in a creative industry so it's jeans and trainers in the office! One day...

Another vintage 1960s wedding.
She was the equivalent of Princess Eugenie in her day. The granddaughter of a Monarch.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/11/2018 23:37

Completely agree, I don’t want to read about celeb fashion. Those who are interested; Please feel free to start a new thread devoted to them.
These threads are so interesting because when there’s a bit of a lull in appearances; posters come up with so many interesting titbits about history: jewellery; gossip mainly of the harmless kind.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/11/2018 23:44

Just from watching the two Kent Weddings; I do think Princess Marina was a fascinating character. Half Russian; half Greek/Danish.

She was handsome rather than beautiful; but very chic

Royal style & gossip: from maximum Maxima to minimalist Meghan
SenecaFalls · 26/11/2018 00:51

The Duke of Kent was the last British prince to marry a princess. Supposedly she was very conscious of being a blood princess in contrast to her sisters-in-law, the Duchesses of York and Gloucester. They in turn, being Scottish aristocrats, may not have considered themselves inferior to a somewhat minor European royal.

Marina was Prince Philip's first cousin and her wedding was where he and Elizabeth met for the first time.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 26/11/2018 01:05

Wallis Simpson was also a handsome rather than beautiful woman but also incredibly chic. The between the wars royal women seemed to go for a strong look rather than anything too fru fru.

Yes, Wallis was very photogenic and the styles of the 1930s were perfect for her type. As with Eva Peron, I admire her taste, if not her politics!

IdaBWells · 26/11/2018 02:45

I another voting to keep this thread Royal with no slebs. I am just not interested in them in the same way, and I like the uniqueness of this thread.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/11/2018 06:32

Emily Andrew’s who broke the original story in the Sun about Frogmore; says that the Duke & Duchess of Gloucester are moving to a smaller part of KP. So that Apartment 1 will be available.
So it looks like it was a definite decision of Meghan and Harry to leave KP.
One of the tweeters said Eugenie could have a bigger apartment. It will be interesting to see when Eugenie does start a family. She is relatively young; 28; but has been with a Jack for 10 years, so it would be nice to hear about the teeny patter of York-Brooksbank feet!

TipseyTorvey · 26/11/2018 06:37

Sorry all! My fault entirely with the Amal thing. Thanks for the harpers link though Queen I thoroughly gorged on Amal and am Over It (for this thread only, still like her tho). Will get back to the point of the thread now (whilst googling for berry red jumpsuits).

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/11/2018 06:43

Ok, more info from Rebecca English in the DM

Harry and Meghan don’t want their child growing up in the goldfish bowl of KP. The grounds of Frogmore are more private and only open to the public for 3 days of the year. The “cottage” is only 5 bedrooms p; not 10. Taxpayers are paying for the refurbishment and M&H are doing the fixtures and fittings.

No real split between the brothers; but there has been comment that M than is quite opinionated and Harry has got dictatorial of late.

William has to stay put in central London for his offices; and he is the future Prince of Wales. The Cambridge’s would like more room for their children to run around but they can be seen very easily. )I guess that explains why they go to Anmer as often as possibles).

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 26/11/2018 07:00

Thanks Curly interesting article.

I would think Meghan is probably finding it quite difficult having to adjust to the pecking order. I know I would do. Kate has had years of practice & knows one day she’ll be Queen.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/11/2018 07:02

Re Princess Marina, I saw a recent photo of her granddaughter Marina Ogilvy and she's the image of her.

Princess Madeleine of Sweden Instagram

BigGreenOlives · 26/11/2018 07:06

Princess Alexandra is still very glam. At the moment she’s recovering from a broken arm.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/11/2018 07:06

Do we know anything about this alleged move beyond what the Mail has said? Rebecca English isn't the most reliable royal reporter.

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 26/11/2018 07:11

Ah I see it was the Sun who broke the story. Not sure they're much more reliable!

But even if it is true, their extrapolations are just speculation.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/11/2018 07:13

@Ipromiseiwontbenaughty

Yes I think in Meghan’s shoes I would find the deference wierd.
Everyone naturally defers to William. However Meghan is an American and their society is based on meritocracy. (In theory).

I guess she is trying to maintain some privacy for the baby. As Harry is now way down the pecking order, they have that opportunity.

I’ve always thought that Kate’s family are like courtiers of old. They have never uttered a word about the RF and their behaviour is impeccable. Kate is a product of that upbringing and is 100% supportive of William and careful not to eclipse him.

To be fair the Harry, is is so proud of Meghan, he is happy to let her shine. I remember his expression when she launched her cookbook.
Harry is used to bring no.2 and Meghan is the star; so that dynamic works for them.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/11/2018 07:16

@Queen
I know you’re not a fan of the sun or the DM!
However the Sun were spot on with the Frogmore «scoop»; later confirmed by KP

Some DM writers just make up sh*t, but I think Rebecca English (the official royal correspondent) and Richard Kay (Diana’s pet journalist) are usually pretty accurate.
