Crabb I would say that’s an older photo, I think they have both aged considerably since that was taken. Both still amazing for their ages though.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 16/11/2018 09:12

Mathilde (I love that name) looks magnificent and could not be more Queenly in that picture.

QueenOfTheAndals · 16/11/2018 09:19

Mathilde is the only current queen consort who is from the nobility herself, though I think the heir to the Luxembourg grand duchy also married a countess.

The Queen of Bhutan is just beautiful. I haven't seen her before.

I don't really get this desperation for photos and sense that the public are 'owed' this. We see lots of photos of the Royals at official events, I don't personally feel that they have an obligation to share photos of private events or of their children. Why do the public need to see photos of Louis regularly? He will be in the public eye soon enough. As someone said, this is the attitude that made Diana's life hell, and by extension , that of her children.

They are people , entitled to keep some of their private life private.

queenofarles · 16/11/2018 09:33

Tbh honest, other than the blingy chandelier earrings , I don't think the dresses were that great Wink.

Mariechantal in Prada? an underwhelming choice,

Princess Alexandra, Princess Marie, and CP Marie are all alike Confusedboth princes do prefer the brunette , olive skinned type

Batteriesallgone · 16/11/2018 09:39

No I agree that photos of Louis aren’t owed to anyone. He’s a baby. I don’t agree anyone should have pictures taken when relaxed / informal which babies are 100% of the time (as they are unaware).

But all glammed up in a designer frock you only have because you married RF? Dressed in formal wear, deliberately dressed to look good and been seen (just not by the plebs). They are grown ups FFS, how hard is it to have a quick pic taken.

ajandjjmum · 16/11/2018 10:20

Just going back a few pages, I remember reading at the time that the photographer who took the topless shots of Kate was 1 mile away! That is really horrible.

mrscampbellblackreturns · 16/11/2018 10:35

Yes I totally get why they were so angry over those topless shots. I like William, he seems to do a good job and I am sure he will release photos of the family at Christmas.

Quantumblue · 16/11/2018 10:36

Mary and Fred have such a banal background in their photo as if they were staying in a Premier Inn.

beanaseireann · 16/11/2018 10:38

Marie Chantal and her Prada forever.
She annoys me

Spudlet · 16/11/2018 10:38

I think it will be really interesting to see how the next generation of Royals navigates the press and social media - the digital native generation. W & K are my age and generation, but our children are the first to grow up with social media, the internet and all that entails from the very moment of their birth. Will be fascinating to see what approach they will - or won't - take. Will they go down the Instagram route, or follow their parents?

I don't think we are particularly 'owed' pictures of Louis - he's a baby, they all look a bit like happy potatoes anyway. Apart from mine, obviously Grin

DontCallMeCharlotte · 16/11/2018 10:40

I liked the Prada.

Just saying.

Paradyning · 16/11/2018 10:41

I like the Prada too (just not the wearer so much. Not that she's done anything to me). But CP Mary knocked it out the park in that velvet dress!

DontCallMeCharlotte · 16/11/2018 11:15

he's a baby, they all look a bit like happy potatoes anyway

The Cambridges have produced very distinctive looking babies. None of them have looked like babies (if that makes any sense), apart from when they were very new. They all look like tiny adults. Let's hope the boys inherit their paternal grandfather's hair pattern!

DontCallMeCharlotte · 16/11/2018 11:15

Of course I meant MATERNAL. Doh!

QueenOfTheAndals · 16/11/2018 12:24

@beanaseireann Same! It's bad enough that Marie-Chantal calls herself a crown princess when Greece abolished the monarchy years ago, but then she throws shade at actual queens like Letizia! Jealous much?

QueenOfTheAndals · 16/11/2018 12:27

@DontCallMeCharlotte Yes re hairline, although Andrew has escaped the bald gene (wonder whyHmm) and even Charles had a full head of hair well into middle age. William takes after poor Edward who was bald on top by his early 30s.

Agree that the sense of 'entitlement' to pictures of royal babies or outfits worn for private events is totally unreasonable.

Everyone is entitled to a night off, for goodness' sake! Public money may well provide the security detail, but that doesn't mean we should have unfettered access to every area of the royal family's lives.

itswinetime · 16/11/2018 13:09

We aren't asking for unfettered access though, we aren't asking for shots inside the party itself and I have never asked for more pictures or the children.

I don't think one posed photo of them dressed up ready to go is that intrusive it's almost a standard thing these days that a lot of normal couples do before a night out.

I can see why after everything they want to protect their privacy in my opinion though this would have been a good opportunity to give people what they want Royal glamour without loosing anything.

I don't think that is unreasonable but it's interesting to see that some people would be happy with more private removed monarchy. I think one of the more interesting aspects of the Royal Family is everyone has such different expectations.

DivinityMum · 16/11/2018 13:13

For media, it’s as simple as increasing their ad revenues. So the most clicks and comments a certain “type” of story generates, the more articles of the same category they will publish. DM gets their most engagement on Meghan bashing stories. People who support the view and oppose the view both put comments and that argument generates more money for DM essentially.

The point I wanted to make is that we need to be careful about what we wish for. The more we ask for a certain type of story, or engage more on a type, media will go all out with unethical means to get those. They are now considering using drones and other technology in private gatherings to listen to private conversations and take pictures and I sincerely hope it doesn’t come to all that. So I stand with the strict enforcement of privacy the RF seems to follow now.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 16/11/2018 13:23

Oh Lordy, the thread is getting all heavy!
Let's agree we've all got different opinions and get back to.the frocks.

QueenOfTheAndals · 16/11/2018 13:33

My thoughts are always that Grand Duke Henri was in The Thornbirds! He does resemble Richard Chamberlain considerably.

Guillame(?) and Stephanie have been married for several years but they're yet to produce an heir. I wonder if there's any pressure on them for that? I'd hope not.

I don't have max but this site as a link to some of Diana's dresses from the exhibit and Kensington Palace I will have to go before it close I think some fabulous frocks if a little dated.
Diana's dresses

Apologies if it's been shared before hard to keep up with all the links

megletthesecond · 16/11/2018 14:06

All I care about is the clothes.
They don't owe us pics of family events and their children need to grow up as normally as possible.
