Vanilla well if that was the case then they were not security professionals.

CrookedMe · 21/11/2018 07:42

Very publicly dating one man to make another jealous seems quite standard Diana behaviour. I always thought she seemed like a massive pain in the arse.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 21/11/2018 07:47

Trevor Rees Jones, who was in the front of the car; did ask for more.
Henri Paul worked for the Ritz and Dodi would have gone anyway.
'Diana lost her police protection when she divorced
As pp said; she would have been in the same position as Jackie Onassis. Diana had a limited choice of men who could have protected her after her divorce.
Like ex presidents, she would have needed protection. Although.just out of curiosity; I presume Sarah Ferguson didnt get any when she divorced andrew

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/11/2018 07:53

Just read your link about Paul Burrell @CurlyWurlyTwirly. That was a very odd case. Obviously he's a bit of a fantasist but the way the case collapsed at the end was so bizarre, and made me wonder what he was about to reveal that the royals were worried about. HM suddenly remembered a conversation they had? Hmm

I don't know if Fergie has any protection but she was never the icon Diana was, and the media didn't pursue her in the same way.

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 21/11/2018 07:59

Incidentally, how's it decided who gets protection officers? Is it just HM's immediate family or anyone with an HRH like the Kents and Gloucesters?

Do Beatrice and Eugenie have them? And if so, does it mean the protection officers trail around after them at work or sit in a car outside all day? I noticed that someone drove Eugenie to the POW's birthday last week and Jack was in the back seat.

AhoyDelBoy · 21/11/2018 08:36

I really doubt Fergie needs protection. Does anyone really give much of a hoot about her? I see Beatrice is in Australia at the moment.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 21/11/2018 08:45

I'm no Diana fan but do think the RF leaving her without adequate protection was an actively cruel act. And see where it led.

I would imagine in today's political climate that even Sarah Ferguson has some level of protection - it's not about whether HM think she actively deserves it, it's about the publicity value in someone like Isis doing her harm. Remember her ex was also a british soldier...

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 21/11/2018 09:13

They did a risk assessment and bea & euj didnt need security. PA was not happy.

ajandjjmum · 21/11/2018 09:31

It was the removal of security from the 'blood princesses' that seemed to start the whole issue of 'their place within the Royal Family' with Andrew.

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/11/2018 09:45

TBH if I was them I wouldn't want to be trailed by security all the time! I'm not sure your average Joe Public would recognise them either.

Strange. To me anyway.

I really would have thought, no matter what water had passed under the bridge between Diana and the RF, and what ever you think of Diana's actions, that for the sake of her sons the RF would have dealt with her security. It was never rocket science to predict what might happen to her. Especially in those first years after the split from the RF, with press interest at white hot.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/11/2018 10:20

given the average Windsor life expectancy Charles could be on the throne for 20 years

NOOOOOO - please don't say that!!! Grin

Anyway, if you look back it's tended to be the women who've tended to live a very long time rather than the men (with the exception of Philip of course). Add in Charles's florid complexion and swollen hands and I've often wondered about blood pressure issues ...

BlingLoving · 21/11/2018 10:23

I think part of Prince Andrew's issues is that he believes his daughters DO need protection so as I understand it, he's now paying for it privately. Which he's not happy about. I remember reading about this at the time a few years ago.

Buddywoo · 21/11/2018 10:26

Diana chose to get rid of her protection. The Queen wanted her to keep it but Diana thought they were spying on her. It was her decision.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/11/2018 10:27

(Paul Burrell) HM suddenly remembered a conversation they had?

Yeah right Grin

I realise everything has to be spun to put the best possible public face on things, but that one stank to high heaven; do they really think folk are quite that stupid? And how convenient, considering the Queen would never be subpoenaed ...

AhoyDelBoy · 21/11/2018 10:29

@Puzzledandpissedoff
I noticed PCs hands in the recent flurry of picturesShock

PawneeParksDept · 21/11/2018 10:43

It won't happen now of course but I think had she lived she may have become HRH, Diana, The King's Mother in response to the what iffery upthread

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/11/2018 10:51

@Laiste I thought that was odd too. I mean, if William and Harry could've driven themselves then why couldn't they? I'm guessing none of them drove back though - either they stayed the night or Meghan was designated driver!

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 21/11/2018 11:04

Meghan's made a surprise visit to the Grenfell kitchen today. Wearing berry tones, which we said a few days ago that she should wear. I KNOW YOU'RE LISTENING TO US MARKLE!

I'm not keen on the shboots but love the coat.

OP posts:
Moononthehill28 · 21/11/2018 11:08

I also noticed PC’s hands and thought the same thing. Not good.
I like the dress and coat, but think the dress is too short.

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/11/2018 11:11

I don't think her dress is too short at all. Kate tends to shorten her skirts when she's pregnant too, but they're hardly microminis! Sshe's perfectly appropriately dressed for a daytime occasion.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 21/11/2018 11:30

Ah! Megan looks lovely today.

It's a yes from me Smile (Like she cares!)

AhoyDelBoy · 21/11/2018 11:38

Now THIS is an OUTFIT! I would love to see MM dress like his again.
