Of course it didn't happen @SenecaFalls Hmm

I like the berets too. I'm not a big fan of fascinators and I think statement hats are best left to someone like Maxima, who has the personality to carry them off. The berets reflect Meghan's more understated style.

@Harebellmeadow I once read a suggestion that it might've been listeria or an autoimmune disorder that caused all of her obstetrical issues. I did read an interesting medical journal article about it last year so will post it here if I find it again.

Queen Anne's 2 daughters who survived both caught small pox from their father.

Lots of reasons for miscarriages. 300 years ago they didn't have modern medicine. My SIL had 8 before they got to the root of the problem.

AFifthOfKoolAid · 12/11/2018 12:30

For me, Camilla tends to wear a good hat. If I ever live a life where I need to wear hats (unlikely, much to my chagrin) that's my hat inspo. I'd go big and feathery. I wish hats were more of a thing in the real world!

Ktay · 12/11/2018 12:31

I think the DoC is still suitably down-to-earth on occasion; I love this photo from her first engagement following her latest maternity leave!

*2 daughters who survived child birth.
They died of the small pox.

Queen Anne was the last of the Stuart Line and then we have had Hanoverians ever since.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 12/11/2018 12:33

No law which says you cant wear a hat. You can wear whatever you like. People who don't care but look good have style ; as opposed to slavishly following fashion.

Batteriesallgone · 12/11/2018 12:49

Love Kate’s green coats! Also as a late 30s mother of three, she looks a lot better than I do! Not sure why people think monarchy should be wrinkle free anyway? Acting and looking your age is the best thing I think. She’s not a model (thank heavens).

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 12/11/2018 12:49

My rheumatologist thinks she may have had Antiphospholipid syndrome an autoimmune disorder which can cause miscarriages. I had a fair few till I was diagnosed with APS.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 12/11/2018 12:50

She being Queen Anne.

AFifthOfKoolAid · 12/11/2018 12:54

True, Curly. I'm the opposite of fashionable and work in a very casual environment, but life is too short to not have fun. I might start wearing Camilla hats to the office with my jeans and jumpers! Or at least to the next wedding I go to.

Bloominglovely · 12/11/2018 12:57

She didn’t have a smirk, even using the word smirk is being spitefully critical of her in my opinion.

The poor woman must be thinking WTF has she married into. You are either lived or hated and it is seemingly obligatory to start off being hated.

Bloominglovely · 12/11/2018 12:58

*loved. Damn auto correct!

Want2bSupermum · 12/11/2018 13:27

I think PH has been very unfair to his wife. She continues to be unprepared for the events she is attending. As her DH it's his family and he knows what is expected. He knows who he married, a lady who didn't grow up in the U.K., most probably zero or less than 5 hours of history lessons on British history and certainly doesn't know much about nuisances of the RF. It continues to be demonstrated again and again. Their engagement pictures, she wore a £50k dress, who does that when you are the RF?!? She is still holding his hand going into church for a remembrance service.

I saw the articles over the weekend about her personal assistant leaving after 6 months. Hopefully this means she should be getting someone in who can properly advise her on what to do. It would be a fabulous job for Eug & Bea.

I live and work in Manhattan. Ladies are wearing pantyhose all the time when wearing skirts and dresses. Huge selection available from $2-200 a pair here in the tristate area, for all skin tones. I wouldn't think to go into the office with bare legs. I'm in management. Its only the junior female who doesn't wear tights and her career isn't going anywhere, not because of not wearing tights, but she lacks the self awareness to know that if everyone but her in the office come in wearing a suit or female equivalent, a pair of chino pants, t-shirt and blazer from old navy ain't going cut it. She could spend the same money on an appropriate pair of dress pants and some more formal tops.

SenecaFalls · 12/11/2018 13:31

Acting and looking your age is the best thing I think.

I agree wholeheartedly. I think sometimes people forget that the Cambridges are fast approaching middle age. There certainly should be no apologies for looking and acting one's age age or even a little older.

Want2bSupermum · 12/11/2018 13:35

I do wonder how long the DofS will be nice with the press. They are not being nice to her. If I were here I'd keep much more of a distance. It's the RF, not Hollywood. I don't think she fully understands that in Hollywood the high profile people need the press to promote themselves. It's the very opposite with the RF. It doesn't mean to be rude, but I do think the approach by the DofC's makes much more sense.

I know more than I should about the RF! My brother was security for PH for years and because he is really good with kids, PW and DofC, asked him to be on their security team in between engagements when PG was born. He finally left the military when he got married 2 years ago but he does a lot of short term work for specific events and tours.

loveandstuffing · 12/11/2018 13:41

@Want2bSupermum Could you ask your brother about Kate’s fitness and diet routines please Grin

PawneeParksDept · 12/11/2018 13:46

Agree completely with @Want2bSupermum

We had some Americans at my university and they had to undertake an obligatory British culture course

It feels like no one has given her the basics and that it is not simply an elevated celebrity role but a formal State role in line with being wife of the Vice President say.

Not that the current Executive Branch has any example to offer but Jill Biden is a good example of what's expected from her.

Another good example is Doria at Christmas.
Though I think it's wonderful she has been asked it will have come via request, a request Kate, Sophie and Autumn would never have dreamt of asking, because it simply isn't done. Asking Meghan herself last year was a huge departure, and neither Kate nor Jack Brooksbank were ever extended such an honour. Presumably neither William or Eugenie would have dreamt of asking.

But I am glad all the same, I think it's lovely but it does show a gap in customs and a lack of understanding, presumably Meghan is applying what would be the norm in the average family to the RF without realising the distinction, her mother isn't being asked to Christmas with her son in laws granny, she's being asked to Christmas with The Sovereign and those are the sort of distinctions I think Meghan lacks.

owlshooting · 12/11/2018 13:54

Agree Pawnee and SuperMum. Spot on.

owlshooting · 12/11/2018 13:54

I wondered if the request had come from PC actually.

SilentIsla · 12/11/2018 13:55

I watched most of the day's events on YouTube last night. This did not happen.

It most certainly did. And exactly who are you to decide on someone else’s interpretation of what a smirk looks like?
Her mouth was upturned. She was camera-aware as usual even on this most solemn of occasions for British people.

SilentIsla · 12/11/2018 13:56

FAO: SenecaFalls

SilentIsla · 12/11/2018 13:56

I watched live. Hmm

Batteriesallgone · 12/11/2018 13:57

I assumed the queen had jumped on the chance to associate Meghan and her mum.

Last significant American female to the RF was viewed as a hussy and the U.K. monarchy attitude to her was a bit embarrassing in retrospect.

Obviously it was a different time and her dad behaved honourably, but still, a chance to show you can be all modern and accepting to a couple of Americans is a golden chance, surely. Queenie knows what she’s doing. She’s no pushover.

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/11/2018 14:02

The Japanese royal family at a garden party. I love the kimonos, they all look so elegant.
