Those are some sleeves. I think I would be driven to a murderous rage by the flappy flappiness of them within approximately twenty seconds. I like the trousers though.

I think it pribabky varies, where they stay. H&M were definitely in a hotel for at least some of the latest tour, weren't they?

Spudlet · 14/11/2018 13:50

Pribabky?! Probably...

Bowchicawowow · 14/11/2018 13:52

Has this asked before but why do the press refer to the Royals ‘recycljng’ clothes when actually they are wearing things twice? Confused

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2018 13:52

Letizia & Felipe; Peru day 2.
I like the Boho vibe of her evening dress, but the check on her trousers suit is too distracting. She’s so tiny, I think she looks swamped. Love the Burgundy heels though!

Re joining this fascinating thread, queenofandals I could kiss you Grin thank you for linking that article about the queen mother,I finally got to know why the duke of Windsor called her cookie, I just presumed because maybe she was too wholesome, Grin,

Isn't there a letter written by then Albert to his wife after the birth of princess Margaret saying that they are still young and could try again for boy? Also wasn't she romantically linked to Someone prior to marrying Prince Albert, it just doesn't sound like the rumours about her to be true.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2018 13:57

Oh yes, the QM had the hots for someone, and Bertie had to propose 3 times before she would accept. Queen Mary had the object of the the Lady Elizabeth Bowes Lyon sent overseas; I think Australia, to leave the way clear for her son.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2018 13:59

I don’t think I have ever seen the Queen wearing the same outfit twice. I’m sure she must, but it’s not obvious.

VanillaSugary · 14/11/2018 14:08

Just watched the documentary about the press relationship with the RF - v interesting, thanks for the links!

VanillaSugary · 14/11/2018 14:09

Apparently the QM wanted to marry David which probably explains why she was so cross with him after Wallis. According to the very dodgy American blog site.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2018 14:10

66 Years of the Queen’s style
She really did wear some beautiful outfits as a young woman.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2018 14:11

No she wanted to marry a Scot. I cannot remember his name.

Newspeak · 14/11/2018 14:12

I thought the rumour was she wanted David! Blush

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2018 14:16

Found it. Elizabeth was in love with James Stuart who was Albert’s equerry. Queen Mary arranged for him to be sent to America.

Jeezo the sleeves on that Max. I hope they didn't give her soup...

Spudlet · 14/11/2018 14:34

I know it was from The King's Speech Blush, but is it true that the QM turned down Bertie several times because she didn't want to be a public Royal?

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/11/2018 14:40

@CurlyWurlyTwirly Letizia isn't tiny at all, she's 5'7. But she's always standing next to Felipe who's about 6'6 so looks small in comparison!

Hi I hope no one minds me bursting in like this but I have a daft question which I thought the people here could answer. Today the duchess of Cambridge is up in Yorkshire and wearing another of her coat dresses. Do you wear them as a coat with clothes under or as a dress with just undies. I am not trying to be a pervert I’m just trying to understand the concept. Personally I wear a full slip under a dress to stop lines. Or do they mean coat dress as it is a dress but in coat weight?

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/11/2018 14:43

I can't access that Telegraph link as it needs a login but yes, HM was very glamorous as a young woman. Which is why I don't give much credence to the stories about her dictating what Kate or Meghan wear. She's 92 - when it comes to fashions she's seen it all!

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/11/2018 14:47

I think a coatdress is a dress that's made from a heavyweight fabric.

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/11/2018 14:49

@Spudlet I'd heard she turned him down 3 times but I didn't know it was for that reason. I'd also heard that she had a fancy for David but she wasn't his type - he preferred them skinny and slightly masculine! Funny how it all turned out really. And certainly when she was QM she seemed to love her job. She came across as a natural extrovert who enjoyed being around people, something that I don't think HM is.

I am absolutely loving all this Queen Mother chat@QueenOfTheAndals can I shamefacedly admit that I am currently reading that Lady Colin Campbell book (in my defense I currently have hideous morning or all day sickness so my judgement is slightly impaired)😊😊😊

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 14/11/2018 15:09

MrsPear- you can often see a peak of a very similarly coloured dress or skirt under a coat dress. I don’t think they could risk not wearing anything underneath it!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2018 15:17

Interesting question about the coat dress.
Having had a good peruse of her dress today; it's from this label. I would say coat dresses are like a shirt dress but with a lining.

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/11/2018 15:20

The one time I saw Kate in the flesh she was wearing what I thought was a brown coat dress but it turned out it was just a coat and she had a leopard print dress underneath. I wish she'd rewear that, leopard print is very on trend this winter!

Personally I'd just wear a slip, but if the coat-dress is lined perhaps you don't even need to bother with that. I've said on another thread that I've only seen one coat-dress in the wild and unfortunately didn't know the wearer well enough to ask what she wore under it!

The one Kate is wearing today is very tailored and it doesn't look to me like there'd be room for much under it. I think as Queen says it's a dress which is coat weight, so you wear it as a dress. Very convenient for royals as it saves them faffing about taking coats on and off in cold weather when they have several engagements in a row.
