spudlet she did turn him down, she wasn't in love with him at first, whereas Prince Albert was instantly attracted to her, According to the house of Windsor doc , to some extent it's due to her feelings towards James Stewart, they had to get James out of the way,
I never heard that rumour about prince Edward and Queen mother! He was really handsome, But dear me it was as though Wallis Simpson sucked the life out of him.

That vogue retrospective was lovely - thanks. DoC had some lovely dresses - especially loved what she wore on both US trips.

When she is pregnant her dresses and coats are often shorter at the front than at the back. But a good pregnancy outfit - especially if tailored - shouldn't do this.

I think her shoes bug me because they are often too wide at the arch so they look frumpy. She has some lovely sandals and boots

Paradyning · 14/11/2018 15:52

Florascotia2 definitely not confused with that legend about Glamis Castle. As I said I heard it via Westminster about the Queen Mum.

CP Victoria looks incredible in that dress and love the emeralds. Really don't like those tiaras though. There a 4 pronger one that looks even worse than that one.

Princess Sofia's tiara looks lovely with the pearls. But I like it with those emeralds too as she wore on her wedding.

And finally Max. Sigh. 💕

The Reinventing documentary is a great watch, thank you for posting. I felt so sad watching Kate be chased by the paps, it must have been so scary

RainbowsArePretty · 14/11/2018 15:56

Now watching Diana vs the Queen, I had forgotten HM was at Balmoral when PD died and the flag outrage

YearOfYouRemember · 14/11/2018 16:00

When I was a late teenager coat dresses were in fashion and I just wore underwear underneath it.

Enjoyed the Vogue look back at Kate; Jenny Packham has been consistently good for her evening wear looks. Didn’t Catherine Walker used to be a designer that Diana favoured? I don’t know if Diana chose more wisely or her stuff didn’t seem as frumpy because a lot of people dressed older than their years in the 80s but Kate should bin her off. There’s a particularly hideous pale blue a line coat dress with cream lace panels that reminds me of a zip up house coat from the Damart catalogue over 20 years ago.

I know that her hairdresser has probably advised her against going too dark when covering grey to minimise regrowth/look more natural but I wish they’d stop using so many red tones. I know her skin is paler now and they probably want to add warmth but it fades

I read bits and pieces of a recent bio of Wallis Simpson and the author seemed convinced that she never really wanted to marry David (obviously I call him David, like I knew him personally Grin). She consented to be his mistress (though apparently there was never any sex involved) in order to push herself and Ernest up in the world but he became obsessed with her. She allegedly told a friend that if only King George and Queen Mary would let her handle him then she could've had him married off to some eligible gel within the year! But when he abdicated she felt she had no choice but to divorce Ernest and marry him. It doesn't sound like they ended their days happy.

I didn't realise Ernest had been married before and went on to marry twice more after Wallis. His children are still alive today.

I'm inclined to think that is the essential truth about Wallis. What started as a bit of fun got way out of hand. And once David left the throne, she really had no choice but to marry him.

MrsPear · 14/11/2018 17:00

Thank you - off to finish reading

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/11/2018 17:02

Bit of a sad situation all around really. David was never going to "settle down" and marry the right girl, and all his mistresses were married women. Who he apparently didn't do much more with than kiss. But even if he'd reigned as a bachelor king then at least HM would've had 20 years of being a secondary royal and bringing up her family, and who knows how far the DoE would've gone in the navy?

The is definitely reading this thread. There was an article about Meghan's tights. Although they referenced Twitter.

Ffs. The DM.

Batteriesallgone · 14/11/2018 17:13

My mum always suspected he was gay, I think it used to be a common cover up to have married ‘mistresses’ who you actually just had a close friendship and a cuddle with. Or maybe asexual.

Anyway. I am shocked, SHOCKED I tell you, at the idea DoC might be naked under the coat dress. I always assumed a thin/summer dress underneath. Don’t tell me she’s naked under her clothes what a suggestion ShockGrin

I can’t get my head around a coatdress that is a dress rather than a coat. Doesn’t sit right with me at all. I always assumed they were just lovely coats!

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/11/2018 17:13

I'm going to have to add "and the Daily Mail can fuck off" to any future thread titles, aren't I?

Didn’t realise I’d posted as I put my iPad down.

Too much red hair colour fading ends up looking too many shades lighter. I do think the length of Kate’s hair is so much better now.

And I’llsay it again, thank God she ditched those platform nude courts!

UrsulaPandress · 14/11/2018 17:17

What if you forgot and took your coat off?

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/11/2018 17:20

Well then HM would DEFINITELY be having a word!

Harry! I’ve never seen that picture before

gingercat02 · 14/11/2018 17:27

The whole thing is here www.bbc.co.uk/news/in-pictures-46150569

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/11/2018 17:31

@gingercat02 My first thought was James Middleton!

gingercat02 · 14/11/2018 17:33

It's just so Harry in my eyes. Probably the beard but I have never really seen the resemblance before. Some lovely photos and he's really not my favourite by a long way!

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/11/2018 17:34

70 years has passed and they still dress George and Louis the same way!

I love the 1955 photo of him with Anne, she looks as no-nonsense as ever.

itswinetime · 14/11/2018 17:37

Sorry to steal your thunder Charles but look at anne I don't think I would have recognised her!
