They're fake in that they obviously never belonged to MA (I saw the date too) but they are very real diamonds and very very beautiful. And I really want them.

Actually I wouldn't want something that belonged to someone ill-fated. Likewise I wouldn't have wanted Diana's engagement ring (not least I think because it's as ugly as sin).

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/11/2018 08:10

@DontCallMeCharlotte I always found it a little strange that William gave Kate Diana's engagement ring when you consider how that marriage turned out!

It's a bit much, that ring, isn't it?! Not subtle, that's for sure.

With that ring, I think I read (probably on these threads!) that W & H had an agreement that whichever one of them got engaged first would have dibs on using Diana's ring, so it obviously has massive sentimental value for them. Maybe it's the one they remember her wearing the most, or something.

VanillaSugary · 14/11/2018 08:25

It's an iconic ring, though.

The second documentary explains more of the background to William & Harry’s attitude towards the press. I think Williams attitude hardened when his relationship with Kate got serious; about the time they turned 25. The film show both Kate & Diana being hounded by the press and I would say William’s attitude stems from him being protective about his family and guarding his privacy; as he basically had very little privacy or protection of it; growing up from either of his parents.

Documentary produced by a Panorama journalist. Lots of input from high profile Royal reporters: Richard Kay, Penny Junor, Tom Bradly, Nicolas Witchell. Definitely worth watching.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2018 08:53

Rebecca English completely nicked my idea & published it in the DM

I posted yesterday that Louis looked just like Kate as a baby. The DM used the identical photo. I think I should get a fee! Grin

itswinetime · 14/11/2018 08:55

Am I right in thinking this documentary was banned (or did I misread something) if so was there an official reason why surely it wasn't just pulled because it was negative about the royal family was it? Maybe I am naive but I didnt think a) the press cared or b) they would have to pull it with freedom of the press and all without a legal reason?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2018 08:59

I don’t think it was banned. The end credits ( with voiceover to another programme) made me think it was part of normal programming.

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/11/2018 09:00

The doc on YouTube that was banned is one by Keith Allen about Diana, where he claims she was murdered.

There is a hilarious article in the Mail with ref to Cheryl about 'how pregnancy changes your face'. Sure it does love, if 'pregnancy' also means 'a visit to Harley Street'.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2018 09:10
. It was funded by Mohammed Al Fayed.
itswinetime · 14/11/2018 09:19

I see sorry I'm with you must of skimmed the posts didn't see there were 2 different documentaries that makes more sense to me now thank you

itswinetime · 14/11/2018 09:29

Just found this sounds like the royals did have words the documentary was held and then aired after some issues with archive footage were resolved

I've just discovered that my uncle is going to a birthday lunch for PC today.

Another one here who would t want her MIL’s old engagement ring. I think it is very old fashioned as well.

user1457017537 · 14/11/2018 10:07

I used to see Mr Al Fayed in Harrod’s and always liked him. Another one treated appallingly and blamed by the Royal family. It was the Royals who removed her security and protection and even removed her from prayers.

I went to Harrods and Buckingham Palace in Remembrance after the terrible accident. Mr Al Fayed was supervising the handing out of drinks and food to people. Big cages full of drinks in the midst of his grief.

DivinityMum · 14/11/2018 10:17

I have interacted with Mr Al Fayed briefly as well, and he is the kindest, gentlest soul I’ve ever met. He was so heartbroken over his son’s death apparently that he sold Harrods and pretty much went into a silent retirement afterwards. Another interesting tidbit is that Dodi and Jamal Khashoggi were first cousins via Dodi’s mom.

user1457017537 · 14/11/2018 10:27

DivinityMum he is very kind and does a tremendous amount for charity, especially Gt Ormond St. Mr Al Fayed also used to send toys to sick children without any fanfare whatsoever. Lovely man

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/11/2018 10:29

I didn't know that @DivinityMum, though I remember that Dodi's mother was a Khashoggi.

Raine Spencer was good friends with Mr Al Fayed too and apparently worked in Harrods at one point, later in life.

I have just gone through that Vogue website and can say that for me, she never gets it wrong when wearing Jenny Packham. I also like all her Temperley choices and the Roland Mouret too. Catherine Walker is always safe, but a bit boring and Alexander McQueen is a bit hit and miss!

BlingLoving · 14/11/2018 10:38

I've always thought the Diana engagement ring thing is weird. It feels like bad luck to wear the ring to me, and it's not like the woman didn't have plenty of jewellery that could have been used as an engagement ring or turned into one. I often wonder if Katherine rolls her eyes every time she puts it on. And I wouldn't be surprised if she only wears it for official engagements.

AhoyDelBoy · 14/11/2018 10:46

FWIW I love Catherine’s (Diana’s) engagement ring. It must of been a popular style at the time because Fergie had a ruby in the same style (although no way near as beautiful imo).

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 14/11/2018 10:54

I also wondered whether Catherine wears the engagement ring only for official engagements, but she had it on in the photos of her wearing a pale blue Zara summer dress, playing with George and Charlotte at a polo match back in June. I wonder if she actually has a paste copy for everyday wear - I'd be terrified of losing/damaging it.

Laniakea · 14/11/2018 10:54

The Swedes were doing their tiara thing with a state visit from Italy - CP Victoria's emeralds Shock The dress is sharp too!

More pictures here www.therealmyroyals.com/state-visit-from-italy-to-sweden-dinner/

I think Sofia is wearing her wedding tiara which she's had reshaped & set with pearls (?) - looks much nicer than the original imo orderofsplendor.blogspot.com/2015/06/tiara-thursday-princess-sofias-emerald.html
