Cheryl Tweedy Cole etc was on stage at the palladium talking about the Prince'sTrust. I honestly would not have recognised her.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 13/11/2018 22:24

Vanilla I think I remember either reading it in something that Hugo Vickers has written or saw him say it on tv. But it was so long ago I can’t remember. But equally I could have imagined the whole thing Blush

Clionba · 13/11/2018 22:28

Pawnee - the Bill Bailey set is brilliant, very funny and clever. Charles is definitely having a great evening!

PawneeParksDept · 13/11/2018 22:30

I'm going to watch on Catch up

Good idea, Pawnee, it's very enjoyable!

miri1985 · 13/11/2018 23:12

Not exactly current royals but some of Marie Antoinette and other members of Austrian Royal (Bourbon Parma) family's jewels are being auctioned off tomorrow.

Some other magpies might enjoy a look or even a bid if you've got several million lying around

I read the Queen Mum didn’t like sex! Also read some preposterous article about how she conceived with ahem ‘aids’. As if anyone would know!

DontCallMeCharlotte · 13/11/2018 23:44

Oooh! I realise they weren't Marie Antoinette's but I neeeeeeed these earrings in my life.

Royal style and gossip: no time to think of a snappy title!
Pupsiecola · 13/11/2018 23:46

I just watched the You Tube documentary about the press and PC. Totally understandable why W&H are so anti-the press. I remember many of those press stories (born in the late 60s). What strikes me is how much protection there is now/how little gets out (which is a good thing). It was a bit like a soap opera back in the day.

kooshbin · 14/11/2018 00:10

IdaBWell - that documentary was very, very interesting. Thanks for posting the link. The relationship between the RF and the press has always been difficult. And it's even more so, because of the various means the press and other media have of getting pictures and insider info.

I think that what that documentary also shows so very well is the barrage of flash photography they have to face. I'd find that unbearable.

There was one rather telling bit, and I can't recall who said it, that it was about the monarchy, not the individuals, who really are just there to maintain the brand of the House of Windsor.

kooshbin · 14/11/2018 00:22

What kind of "assistance" would have been available back in the 1920s?

IdaBWells · 14/11/2018 01:39

Pupsie we must be about the same age, yes I think the media coverage is better these days and not so invasive. Back in the ‘80s and early ‘90s it had got so out of hand and like you say was like a soap opera. It’s seems a lot of lessons have been learnt and the two Princes especially seem to have a tight reign on their media coverage.

koosbin yep it’s interesting to realize how essential the media is for maintaining the goodwill that the RF need if we don’t decide for a Republic, so they have to find a way to be comfortable with the mass media and retain their popularity. It’s a careful dance.

Paradyning · 14/11/2018 04:34

Queen, Idabwells
The story about the Queen mum's son isn't the same one as her cousins- Nerissa and sister.
I've heard that story from Westminster. She had a son but as he was disabled he was hidden away. People could easily hide pregnancies back then and no one would be the wiser.

VanillaSugary · 14/11/2018 06:25

Those earrings are fake.

For example, they are described as being nineteenth century. The French Revolution was in the eighteenth century. If they genuinely were MA's earrings then they would be priced at more than £159-250k!! I

VanillaSugary · 14/11/2018 06:26

Turkey Baster.

This info is from a salacious website which a PP posted on a previous thread. It's an eye opening red but I'm not sure how much of it is true! Grin

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 14/11/2018 06:35

How sad if the story about the disabled child is true. But yes much easier to hide then.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 14/11/2018 06:41

Curly that made me lol Grin

The Guardian has snippetss* from a Country Life piece Charles has done - he encourages red squirrels to come into his house and leaves nuts for them in his pockets GrinConfusedShock

BeverlyGoldberg · 14/11/2018 06:50

"Red squirrels" and "camilla" being interchangeable in that sentence.

Paradyning · 14/11/2018 07:04

I hope CP Mette-Marit is well enough to attend tonight. She always pops out some Valentino number or other

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2018 07:04

@IdaBWells

That documentary was absolutely excellent.
Mark Bolland was completely Machiavellian in throwing other Royals under the Bus to rehabilitate Charles & Camilla.
I had no idea that story of Prince Edward breaking the filming embargo at St Andrew’s when William was at university was completely made up. Also the pics of Sophie being flashed by Chris Tarrant were leaked by Bolland.
Charles is ruthless. I’m surprised William still cooperates with him after that. I think William should bring Sandy Henney back as his press secretary. She really had his back when he was young.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2018 07:10

Those Bourbon Parma jewels are beautiful.
It’s a shame France can’t buy them for the nation.
I saw some of the French Crown Jewels at Versailles. Ok, but smallish and not very sparkly....

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/11/2018 07:15

Here’s a to the second part of the documentary which seems to be covering the press hounding Kate. Will report back once I’ve watched it

itswinetime · 14/11/2018 07:31

Will have to watch that documentary when I get a chance! I know Charles press has been less than complementary over the years and I know he wasn't a hands on parent but I didn't think he would be so manipulative and ruthless with his own sons!

Seems to be history repeating its self with his book to what we have seen he is throwing William under the bus and cashing in on Harry's popularity!

As pp have said you can see why he is very untrusting and more reserved!

beanaseireann · 14/11/2018 07:55

Curly
Thank you for the link to the second part. I'd love to see all of it.
What is the title of the programme and when was it on ?
