@AhoyDelBoy I'm sure if Kate were to do the shoot today then Edward Enninful, who took over as editor about a year ago, would've come up with something far more interesting than dungarees!

Love the retrospective of Kate's outfits, thanks for sharing! Looking back at their tour of Canada as newlyweds, I think she really nailed it in a way that MM unfortunately didn't.

RomaineCalm · 13/11/2018 10:34

Gooseygirl I agree about the Canada pictures and think she nailed it with a couple of exceptions (the white blouse and cowboy hat for example!). I also love the Alexander McQueen evening gown that she wore in LA on that tour.

K+W just look very happy and relaxed. Then again, maybe I looked like that once - newly-wed and no kids.

Interesting article about Michelle Obama's autobiography in today's Guardian. She talks about meeting HM:

"The British Queen remarked, “You’re so tall,” and looked at her Jimmy Choo shoes, asking: “These shoes are unpleasant, are they not?” The Queen gestured with some frustration at her own black pumps. Both women confessed that their feet hurt. The Queen “busted out with a fully charming laugh”. Obama writes: “I laid a hand affectionately across her shoulder. I couldn’t have known it in the moment, but I was committing what would be deemed an epic faux pas.” At the second meeting, the Queen gestured for her to join her in the backseat of a Range Rover, saying: “Did they give you some rules about this? That’s rubbish. Sit wherever you want.”"

The story makes me wonder if half of what we read about royal rules is made up!

Kate did Vogue because it was the centenary issue I imagine. In a small way she was supporting British fashion.

PrivateParkin · 13/11/2018 11:19

Thank you for the Vogue link to DoC's outfits over the years, passed a highly enjoyable hour or so looking at those. I love absolutely everything she wore on the Canada tour - especially the maple leaf hat and the sailor style dress on PEI. Fabulous.

Great thread Smile

Look how much HMQ has stooped since this picture was taken in 2011 (taken from the amazing Vogue link up thread). Amazing really. She looked quite tall in her younger days but is now positively tiny. Love HMQs dress in this picture as well.

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/11/2018 11:22

I think HM's height is officially given as 5'4. Which I'm sure she was in her youth but she looks barely 5' now.

Queen your idea would have been perfect though! Even though I loved the shots it seemed like a bit of a missed opportunity as PPs have said. I guess she’s damned if she does, damned if she doesn’t 🤷🏼‍♀️

AhoyDelBoy · 13/11/2018 11:25

5’4!? I’m 5’4! Polishes Crown Grin
She’s definitely not that now, no. I’ve skim read most of this thread as it was moving faster than the others and couldn’t keep up. I noticed a pp said HMQ didn’t go to school!? Is that right?

AhoyDelBoy · 13/11/2018 11:28

I know I could google it but Queen, Curly and others are a fountain of knowledge when it comes to the RF (can only remember names that have been green 🤦🏼‍♀️)

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/11/2018 11:31

Yes, that's right. She and Princess Margaret had governesses at home. Which I suppose was common for aristocratic girls at the time.

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 13/11/2018 11:32

Apparently Princess M complained about this later in life and said she wished she'd been more educated.

OP posts:
AhoyDelBoy · 13/11/2018 11:35

Oh right, I took ‘didn’t go to school’ as didn’t receive an education 🤦🏼‍♀️. I’m stupid, of course they were educated Blush

AhoyDelBoy · 13/11/2018 11:36

How do you have so much knowledge about the RF Queen. Are you HMQ!? Shock

Pupsiecola · 13/11/2018 11:38

In The Crown HMQ was portrayed as not going to school, and actually realised how uneducated she felt when she became Queen. She came across as feeling very insecure about it (in terms of current affairs/being able to talk to people about important topics etc.) and she had some private tuition.

Re Kate's hair, she apparently uses Redken Curvaceous and Kiehl's Creme with Silk Groom. I've read that in two separate articles. I wouldn't be surprised if she uses Philip Kingsley's Elastizicer too. I use the latter, but might try the other two.

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/11/2018 11:38

Well if I was would I tell you???

I've always been interested in British history so have read a lot. And although I'm actually not a royalist, I seem to absorb the contents of Hello magazine by merely walking past a newstand!

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/11/2018 11:40

@Pupsiecola I use the Curvaceous shampoo and it's marvellous stuff for my curly hair. I think having a stylist on hand for a daily blowdry also helps, and there's rumours of (very discreetly placed) extensions too.

I tried to get tickets for MO's book launch event at the Royal Festival Hall. One night, 2500 seats, I was 10,560th in the queue. And that's with buying membership the day before to be able to have a chance at the advanced tickets.

I might buy the book.

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/11/2018 11:42

So did a friend of mine but she was 35,456th in the queue!

SparkyBlue · 13/11/2018 11:43

@AhoyDelBoy remember when she was born she wasn't destined to be the monarch so her education wasn't as good as it should have been.

VanillaSugary · 13/11/2018 11:47

Sophie is in Southampton today in an oversized white coat. It reminds me of those massive coats which were around in the 1990s, think Meg Ryan in Sleepless in Seattle and Sandra Bullock in While You Were Sleeping. Is the big coat going to be a new Thing?

And she has wrinkly boots and has to wear a name badge like the rest of us!!

Gotta love the Sophe 💕

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 13/11/2018 11:50

I love the way Sophie just gets on with it. No fanfare, just does a great job.
