Agreed Queen- these threads have been a lovely departure from the usual bunfights when Royals are mentioned on the more popular boards

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/11/2018 22:21

@SenecaFalls I think it's safe to say the Mail is never going to have its finger on the pulse when it comes to the latest makeup trends!

I think Beatrice and Eugenie get a lot more negative press due to the negative image around their parents unfortunately. They also seem to be more in the public eye than say Zara. I don't remember her ever getting to much interest from the press but I maybe wrong.

itswinetime · 12/11/2018 22:24

@QueenOfTheAndals I see I'm with you yes she may want to do her own makeup but I think she could do with a makeup artist having a fresh look at what suits

CoachBombay · 12/11/2018 22:28

I've a major bone to pick with you ladies...I've spent nearly two hours catching up on this thread and looking at jewels on Instagram!!! What has my life become lol

Regards nude shoe, I have pale skin and I'm short, so I find they look ok on me, but are not my go to if I can avoid it lol.

SenecaFalls · 12/11/2018 22:31

So true Queen. I do pay more attention to make-up than I should probably, but I do a bit of public speaking in my job and am sometimes videoed. So I may be as guilty of Meghan of wanting "to look good from every camera angle."

By the way, I am now watching the full Festival of Remembrance on YouTube. The Chelsea Pensioners just came in. Very moving.

Quantumblue · 12/11/2018 22:35

Just wanted to share Leti's gorgeous dress. She is so slim she can wear something very sticky outy and Meghan would look good in this too.

I flounder my skin changed post-pregnancy. I used to use a mineral foundation but it somehow was too cakey after I had DS and I ended up swapping it for a tinted moisturiser. I had to rejig all my skincare as well. Maybe Kate is experiencing something similar?

Zara flies pretty well under the radar, apart from when the DM insist on calling her a 'showjumper' 🙄

PawneeParksDept · 12/11/2018 22:47

I like the cut of the dress, but I hate horizontal stripes on anything!

Tortycat · 12/11/2018 22:51

just been perusing the Vogue link on DoC earlier (still only up to 2013!). I think Kate's high street wear is really refreshing. Wish she would wear more of it now as i only seem to see her picturednin designer wear. I know there's the suggestion that she needs high quality wear so it will keep for posterity, but surely they cant want to keep everything. Her hem lines were a lot shorter back then! Guess not surprising. She seems to suit almost any colour, wish i could manage that. The Singapore tour clothes were beautiful.

BeaLola · 12/11/2018 23:06

I love Maxima. - she looks fun, but also is dignified, hardworking and seems to adore her DH. Her 3 girls look lovely. She wears her clothes and gets away with bold sassy looks but can also look regal and classic.

I think she would be on my imaginary dinner party table along with David Attenborough,

Has anyone on here ever met her ? Wonder if she comes across the same in RL.?

Tortycat · 12/11/2018 23:41

Is there a 'rule' that rf women aren't meant to wear trousers for official functions? I know mm has but haven't seen kate in any. She'd look great in a jump suit for an evening do

Butterymuffin · 12/11/2018 23:49

I read some tabloid article about the 'rules Kate and Meghan have to follow' which said that the Queen doesn't like RF women wearing trousers for formal engagements.

itswinetime · 12/11/2018 23:56

I don't think anyone outside the family no the 'rules' I think it's mainly speculation based around what they do/don't wear. There may not even be rules outside the state occasions.

I would like to see Kate in a formal jumpsuit I think Max was in one last week. I'm not sure British the royal family would be a fan of the whole having to get undressed to go to the toilet side though Wink

Butterymuffin · 12/11/2018 23:58

Here's a piece where it's the first thing mentioned:

That Vogue link is amazing. Kate is a beautiful woman and has worn some corkers. I like her more High Street, shorter dresses of the earlier years as much as the designer stuff. She's got such a lovely figure too: a long body and long legs. I'm only up to 2012 but I need to sleep.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 13/11/2018 00:08

Imagine your DH’s nana basically got to pick what you could and couldn’t wear.

I’d love to see that AIBU.

user1457017537 · 13/11/2018 02:03

Nude shoes come in various shades and there is a shade to suit every skin tone. Christian Laboutin do various shades. Caramel and toffee tones are lovely too.
The high street ie M&S and Next also have a selection.

AhoyDelBoy · 13/11/2018 03:32

Thanks Spudlet for the Vogue link 😍
It’s awesome! I think I would be Reece if I ever met the Duchess of C. Grin

Kate & Meghan: the Duchesses’ Style pre marriage

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 13/11/2018 06:12

Catching up with the thread.
I absolutely loved Kate’s make up for the Vogue shoot.
Was trying to see what they had done differently which made Kate look imho 10 years younger.

I think they filled in her eyebrows a bit. I’ve always noticed that “ over processed” eyebrows on anyone can be very aging. They’ve dialled down the eyeliner and I think just used a brown shadow instead of a black line.
Barely any blush and a slightly darker, matte lip colour; applied with a lighter touch, it would appear.

I also like the slightly deconstructed way Vogue have styled her hair.

Giving that it was the Vogue Centenary and Kate had said yes, it is pretty disappointing that Kate went for a down on the farm look. It was their biggest selling issue. She said yes to appearing on the cover of Vogue; so in this instance, I think she should have thought “Go big, or go home”.
This to me seems an example of Kate dialling down her star power so as to not overshadow William, or give the press too much.

The shoot would have been agreed with the Press Office. Apparently Lucinda Chambers (fashion director) had slipped in some evening wear; just in case; but it was declined.

Diana had a lot of help from Vogue. I wish someone would introduce Meghan to them, she clearly needs some help from transitioning from her previous style to a duchess wardrobe. Now pregnancy is being thrown into the mix.

*It wasn’t Vogue’s biggest selling issue.
(But quite frankly I think it could have been)

Clionba · 13/11/2018 06:24

Thanks CurlyWurlyTwirly for those pre wedding Kate images. Wow, she has certainly upped her hair game since becoming a princess!! It's well lustrous now! I'd like her secret.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 13/11/2018 06:25

I was also underwhelmed by Kate's Vogue issue but honestly it was pretty good branding. She does try to portray a slightly countryish vibe in her down wear, and that solidified it. And actually when MM really dialled up the designer dresses for her engagement shoot, she got flak for it. DoC might have had similar thoughts in her mind for Vogue? It's a lost opportunity because it would have been wonderful, but it shows a degree of canny thinking, especially given all the hardships a lot of people in this country have been through the last decade. She wasn't giving any ammunition and the worst you could say about it was that it was boring - incidentally I think that's the brief she sets a lot of the time.

Clionba · 13/11/2018 06:27

I bought that copy of Vogue, and was very disappointed. She was projecting the Norfolk farm image, which just didn't ring true. It was an amazing opportunity, not just for herself, but to promote brands - be they small, independent, ethical, British, whatever. The front cover with the unflattering hat was just terrible.
