If they ever do split up then I think there'll be a lot of MNetters rubbing their hands together with glee and saying "I told you so". Not necessarily anyone on this thread, mind...

I do hope so. I think if they're a team, they'll be fine. Ultimately only they know if they are or not. I hope they are!

At least they have the consolation of knowing that they can step away, to an extent, which W & K can't really. If it got too much H could stop being a working Royal and they could be more or less private individuals. Having that get-out option might help, even if they never actually use it.

PawneeParksDept · 12/11/2018 17:16

I would feel desperately sorry for Harry if that happened - Meghan I think would not be reticent in airing grievances

IdaBWells · 12/11/2018 17:27

Bit unfair to compare W&K and H&M in terms of PDA. Noone can be really prepared for that role I'm sure, but Kate had a much longer lead up.

For a start she went to Marlborough, a leading public school where she hobnobbed with aristos, including some of the Princes' friends and others of the upper class. So she was already comfortable socially with that world and familiar with their interests.

Then again at St. Andrew's, she and William were afforded a unique time for a few years where the press left them alone. So they have grown into young adults together and I think knew each other for about a decade or at least 8 years before they announced their engagement.

So Kate had a much better handle on what the British public expected of her and also saw behind the curtain somewhat (deliberately on PW's part to make sure she was aware of what she was taking on).

I think a PP is right that all Meghan would be able to compare it to would be American celebrity. Although she did some work for the UN she was not involved with politics so understandably hard for her to have a clear conception of expectations.

I'm sure she is a good actress and is a nervous wreck a lot of the time, as all eyes are on her and very quick to judge and criticize if she gets it wrong.

She and PH are in the honeymoon period of their relationship and they are clearly strongly physically attracted. I know they are getting a lot of criticism for holding hands and her grabbing his arm but she is suddenly in this very public role and it seems to reassure them both and help them get it right. It will probably be toned down over time as her confidence grows.

I really like Kate but I also know she is a very British gel who understands what we all find acceptable. Meghan doesn't have that cultural knowledge and coming from a show biz background might judge it wrong sometimes. To be fair to her she really has not had a major mishap and did a cracking job on the tour.

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/11/2018 17:28

Can we draw a line under the talk about whether the Sussex marriage will or won't last the course, or what would happen if they split up? It seems a bit distasteful to discuss a couple we don't know, who by all accounts seem happy and have a baby on the way, in that manner.

So can I go back to shoes. I can't seem to get nude shoes right. They just don't feel like they work well for me. Can't put my finger on what it is that I'm doing wrong.

Bloominglovely · 12/11/2018 17:31

I agree Queen. All this rubbish about what ‘we find acceptable’ is tidiculous. We are so inferior to the RF integrity eyes, it is laughable to think they give one toss about what we think of the sliver of insight they allow into their lives.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 12/11/2018 17:32

When H& M first got together, I really had my doubts it would last the course. Barely knew each other, huge cultural differences.

However the points in their favour are they do really seem to love each other. I think Meghan has been a bit of an idiot if she has been tipping off the press but she appears to have learnt from the £56k engagement dress debacle.

Harry is used to playing second fiddle to William and he is quite happy to let Meghan be the star and is proud of her achievements, instead of feeling threatened like Charles with Diana and to a lesser extent Will & Kate. (In the Daily Beast, it says that Kate is careful not to overshadow William. Another fragile ego there)

Meghan needs some good advisors and a trusted support team. She is an intelligent woman and i think she is figuring out what worked in Hollywood to climb up the greasy pole is pretty much the opposite of what is expected of her as a Royal Duchess.

WipsGlitter · 12/11/2018 17:39

Place mark Crown

Want2bSupermum · 12/11/2018 17:41

Anyone help me with nude shoes?!?

Pupsiecola · 12/11/2018 17:42

I think I started that Queen. Apologies.

I prefer Kate in a more blocker heel. She's worn some dark red ones. Can't remember what with. Chanel perhaps?

Pupsiecola · 12/11/2018 17:45

She has lovely shapely legs and I think these shoes show them off better.

I was just looking at some pics of Beatrice and eugine over the years I think they get a bit of a bad wrap fashion wise I know some of their formal wear has been a disaster but They has also had some good outfits over and they aren't afraid to play oround with patterns and cuts I becoming a fan I think

Harebellmeadow · 12/11/2018 17:46

“Nude” shoes only look good on pale skin IMO, and being olive, dont look good on me or because they are not chanel , neither do trenchcoats or beige cashmere.

Pupsiecola · 12/11/2018 17:47

I think too they just look more comfortable and easier to walk in so they look more appealing to someone like me who struggles with spindly heels and hasn't worn any since the 80s!

How cute is Charlotte!

mmmgoats · 12/11/2018 17:51

I loved that coat @pupsiecola the colour and style suited her so much. Those shoes would look awful on me but really suit DoC.

@want2besupermum the only ones I've ever been able to pull of are suede nudes. The patent ones that were so in favour for a while looked awful on me.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 12/11/2018 17:52

The late L'wren Scott popularised the nude shoe. Elongates the leg
She says nude means different things depending o your skin colour. She would wear "blush"

Meghan wore a very nice nude (slightly caramel) suede court shoe with the Navy Roksanda dress in either NZ or Oz

pallisers · 12/11/2018 17:54

Its only the junior female who doesn't wear tights and her career isn't going anywhere, not because of not wearing tights, but she lacks the self awareness to know that if everyone but her in the office come in wearing a suit or female equivalent, a pair of chino pants, t-shirt and blazer from old navy ain't going cut it. She could spend the same money on an appropriate pair of dress pants and some more formal tops.

Off topic, Want2Be but wouldn't you take her aside and tell her this -- mentor her? Men do this with other younger men all the time. (am also fairly astounded at your brother's lack of discretion tbh.)

Until these threads derailed a bit into smirks etc, I loved it. Loved the photos of the non UK royals particularly.

Want2bSupermum · 12/11/2018 17:54

Thanks Curly. I loved L'Wren Scott. So sad what happened to her.

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/11/2018 18:03

I like those pumps, are they Tods? Also liked her plum Prada sandals and the recent burgundy velvet heels.

Afraid I can't help with nude shoes as they're not my thing, but concur with @Harebellmeadow's comment.

pallisers I have twice pulled her aside on her dress, after I was asked to give her guidance. She told me I'm a snob. She called a HR type meeting to tell me she hates me. Spent 20mins telling me how I should respect her because she is the assistant to the CEO. I said nothing because to remind her I'm the CFO of the tech division would have been totally lost on her. I suffer a lot from looking younger than I am. She is 31 and while I'm 38 I've been told I look early to mid 30s. She thinks that because her position on the org chart is above mine I should report to her!

18 months ago she was working in a restaurant as an operations manager for the breakfast shift of a hotel based restaurant. It's hard to go from that to working for a small Wall Street type broker but I would expect her to be further along in terms of acclimatizing than she is.

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/11/2018 18:04

Agree totally re the details @pallisers but hopefully we can get back on track now.

I do think the press have an agenda. No female who ever marries into the RF is ever good enough.

They loved Diana but had started to turn on her after the divorce.

We all know what they did to Fergie.

Camilla - well they weren’t kind were they? And that’s putting it mildly.

Sophie- can’t remember her error if I’m honest but she’s knuckled down so they leave her alone.

Kate - Waity Katie

And now Meghan

The women who marry into the RF must really love their husbands, otherwise, who on earth would open themselves up to such scrutiny & at times vitriol.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 12/11/2018 18:16

And if I could I’d be wearing my nonexitant tiara to Tesco’s.
