Yes I know it's real SAS operatives, I meant fake as in staged.

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/11/2018 17:19

Wait, Kate was kidnapped by the SAS as a training exercise for her? How do you know this @PawneeParksDept??

Don't they have to learn advanced driving skills as well in case they're rammed off the road?

Spudlet · 10/11/2018 17:32

That would make sense, especially if Kate, for instance, is driving herself and her children on the school run. I wonder if their cars have blue lights, so they can get people out of the way if they were to be attacked?

itswinetime · 10/11/2018 17:42

Imagine the response she would have got on AIBU.

'My fiancés family wants me to undergo survival training and a fake kidnapping before we can marry AIBU to LTB!' Grin

TheSpottedZebra · 10/11/2018 17:44

James M. was reported to be working as a guide at Glen Affric, the estate owned by Pippa's in - laws.
I suspect he'd be happier doing that kind of thing rather than trying to push the printed meringue thing. He looks quite quiet and more of a country type.

VanillaSugary · 10/11/2018 17:50

Hey, I've got the Pippa Middleton book and it's actually quite good. Beautifully shot and the recipes are nice. I think the problem is that she had to write it for the international market so she had to explain what bonfire night is, and why we sing Ging. Gang Goolie around a campfire. It's obvious to us, but not to someone in the Middle East.

OlennasWimple · 10/11/2018 17:54

Queen - Crown servants who work overseas in high risk countries have the same hostile environment training. There's also a pared back version that doesn't include the fake kidnap, but still covers how to identify a threat, how to respond in different scenarios and how to work with close protection officers

Clionba - I've always assumed that they would have advanced driving training. It would be stupid for them not to (and to have refresher training every so often too)

PawneeParksDept · 10/11/2018 18:12

It was widely reported in the run up to the marriage @QueenOfTheAndals

Clionba · 10/11/2018 18:33

VanillaSugary stuff is written for the international market that isn't so patronising, surely?
OleannasWimple according to the Ken Wharfe book, the Royals haven't always had the advanced driving tuition. I would have thought that it was obvious, too.

WindyWednesday · 10/11/2018 18:41

I’m not sure if she was actually kidnapped, but she did have SAS training in how to handle a kidnap situation and a defensive driving course. Apparently all members of the royal family do this including HM.

That’s why when the intruder broke into HM bedroom she sat and chatted to him to keep him calm. Ditto Princess Anne’s actual kidnap attempt although she was pretty feisty.

Bloominglovely · 10/11/2018 18:51

I remember watching a reality do documentary style programme about Norland nannies and as many of them go on to work with very wealthy families, they all undergo lessons in driving away from attackers/potential kidnappibg situations.

Interesting blind re: MM's PA resigning.

Disclaimer: no idea if true or not. But I can imagine MM not being too happy about the label and the see-through skirt incidents

Where's Meghan's Poppy?

Paradyning · 10/11/2018 19:26

Oh yes. Maybe on her dress underneath? She'll be mauled for that.
Looks like she has her 'nude' tights in tights don't match her skin tone very well. Might be just flash back though. Yes

Paradyning · 10/11/2018 19:26

I have no idea what happened with the last post.

Paradyning · 10/11/2018 19:27

She has a poppy brooch on her left side

PawneeParksDept · 10/11/2018 19:30

Is this event on BBC1 next?

BlingLoving · 10/11/2018 19:32

Kate looks amazing. And like a queen. Honestly, she's just totally settled into this 'queen-jn-waiting" mould recently.

BlingLoving · 10/11/2018 19:40

Maybe that's another side effect of Meghan- she may have been a future queen but was still the "new girl". But now she's the experienced insider, waiting to be queen, while Meghan is the newbie.

Dumbledora · 10/11/2018 19:44

I wish Kate would do more.
I know it's protocol and they have to be seen as above politics etc but she has such a wide window of opportunity to make a difference.
I think W&K are trying to hark back to Edwardian times, where the Royals were rarely seen and certainly never questioned / called out re their work ethic.

Yes, she wears beautiful clothes but surely we want more than a clothes horse for a Queen?

kooshbin · 10/11/2018 19:52

I wonder if the royal training included the fake rescue? Apparently, there’s what’s called the “killing house” on the SAS base, a bit like an ordinary two-storey house. The hostages are placed in one room, along with some dummies for the terrorists. The soldiers bash open the door, throw in a stun grenade, then shoot all the dummies, and rescue the hostages. It’s rather scary, because apparently they always use live bullets, so most opt to watch via CCTV.

Except for Margaret Thatcher. She not only played herself as a hostage, but insisted her aide did also. She was fine, but the aide dived under the table.

No idea if any of that is actually true, of course.
