@CurlyWurlyTwirly Charles I had no illegitimate children as far as we know. It's Charles II who had over a football team! Diana descended from one of them, so William will be the first monarch who can claim him as a direct ancestor.

@ElspethFlashman I thought that story was about Charles and his valet?

The Linley scandal was published in Australia but embargoed here. I’m fairly sure the same is true of a 👀 story about PC which I can’t repeat because it would be deleted but can be found if you google about

James Middleton is now a hedge fund manager? How?? He didn't even finish university and last I heard he was marketing marshmallows! I suppose Pippa's husband got him a job.

Charles and the valet isn't such a secret as it's on Wikipedia!

The marriage that I am most curious about is that of Edward and Sophie.
Does anyone have any insight of the dynamics of that relationship?
I've noticed that she often makes appearances without him, frequently appearing wih the rest of the family but Edward seems frequently absent. She almost seems more royal than him.
I'm not suggesting there is anything untoward but they have never seemed a natural match to me.
Just curious, no axe to grind!

The society girls of 2018 have much in common with the debs of yesteryear but instead of just waiting about to be wed get some sort of posh non job through connections and attend the right social events until they meet someone similar

I fell foul of this custom when I foolishly trained for a field which employs a lot of posh girls. It was incredibly badly paid and when I asked for a raise to help pay my bills, my manager did not know what language I was talking. The idea was that my hedge fund manager/aristocrat husband would support me, or if I didn't yet have one, my parents.

PawneeParksDept · 10/11/2018 15:24

I saw the comment that James now has a job that Pippa husband got him in I think a footnote in a piece about their attendance at Eugenie's wedding.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 10/11/2018 15:24

Given that a lot ofRoyal staff are gay, I suspect there have been many stories involving footmen over the years.

Going back to the prospect of an openly gay monarch, it would be just fabulous. A cross between Freddie Mercury and Elton. They would hopefully bring back all the fabulous court traditions.

Gary Janetti is funny but v. rude and is trying to make Prince George into a gay icon!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 10/11/2018 15:27

@Queen

Well Lord Snowdon ( his dad ) was bi. I know it’s not hereditary, but is wouldn’t have been a secret to young David Linley...

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 10/11/2018 15:32

... re: the Valet: George Smith, PC and Michael Fawcett.

Wauden · 10/11/2018 15:37

What about Lord Louis Mountbatten then... there were tumours about him Hmm

owlshooting · 10/11/2018 15:43

What about Tony Snowdon? He was bisexual and shagging everything that moved.

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/11/2018 15:43

Oh yes, it's well known that Mountbatten was gay/bi and his wife had a longstanding affair with Nehru. In fact, it sounds like it was more than an affair and they were actually in love. When she died he apparently sent a battleship full of flowers.

Crazy I’m similarly intrigued by Edward & Sophie’s relationship. She seems to be a hit with the Queen.

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/11/2018 15:46

And of course the Duke of Kent would shag anything, male or female, that moved! The queens uncle that is, not the one who hands out the prizes at Wimbledon.

Sophie, mortified by the Fake Shiekh episode, never put a foot wrong again. Her closeness to the Queen is explained by the fact they pretty much live with her, or have for extended periods because Ed has been deputising for the D of E for years and does a lot of Household Stuff at BP

Clionba · 10/11/2018 15:49

I've just been reading Pamela Hicks' nee Mountbatten's autobiography. It's very interesting and she's quite open about her parents' affairs. She and her sister were left in the care of nannies.
I employed a nanny some years ago, and she said that the Yorks employed two.
I heard some very interesting gossip today, my friends. I was chatting to someone who has recently dealt with Pippa Middleton. Says she's not pleasant - regards herself very clearly as a beauty and style icon!

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/11/2018 15:50

Maybe Edward and Sophie's secret is that they're not unlike most working couples with two kids - they just get on with their day jobs and raise their children to their best efforts!

I'm still astonished that Sophie, with all her experience doing PR for years, fell for that fake sheikh business.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 10/11/2018 15:51

Beauty & Style are not 2 words I would associate with Pippa.
She is well turned out and that’s about it.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 10/11/2018 15:54

First Ladies rather than Royal; but the Trumps are in Paris; for Rememberance day, I presume.

Brigitte Macron always has a 60s vibe going on and those spindly 4 inch heels on both ladies are incredible.

I like the cut of Brigitte Macron but not the button detail, Melania's looks ill fitting.

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/11/2018 15:55

I just can't with Melania given who she's married to, but Brigitte is always very chic.
