Princess Royal is taken from the French practice of calling the king's eldest daughter Madame Royale, the younger ones being merely Madame. But I suppose it does sound somewhat redundant in the form translated to British use by Charles I's French wife for their daughter Mary. I like it though as a historical reference to the Stuarts.

Butterymuffin · 09/11/2018 00:34

Apparently there's been a female Duchess of Kendal who held the title in her own right. I like the sound of that for Charlotte. I'd also like Beatrice to get Duchess of York in her own right when Andrew dies. It's only fair now the succession rules have been changed.

AhoyDelBoy · 09/11/2018 00:50

NEW PIC ALERT! Charles, Kate and Louis Smile very in keeping with Charles’s publicity drive at the moment isn’t it Hmm

PawneeParksDept · 09/11/2018 02:35

There's quite a mean spirited article today about Meghan suggesting she got stroppy over her tiara and the Queen said "she'll have what she's given"

I very much doubt those would be HM words, they picked from a range and I don't think that one they couldn't use would have been offered in the first instance

Also suggestion that she has clashed with Kate over how the servants are treated. This I find more plausible for reasons based on background and cultural difference, class markers and etiquette that would be meaningless to Meghan

user1457017537 · 09/11/2018 02:49

So I wonder what they clashed over, if they have, and what the difference in attitude is.

rosewater09 · 09/11/2018 03:07

PawneeParksDept, what article is this?

SenecaFalls · 09/11/2018 04:54

Apparently there's been a female Duchess of Kendal who held the title in her own right.

Also Henry VIII made Anne Boleyn Marquess of Pembroke before their marriage.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 09/11/2018 06:04

@AhoyDelBoy
Thanks for the pic. The photo is all about Charles; agreed, can’t even see Louis’s face

TipseyTorvey · 09/11/2018 06:07

Given the furore when Meghan shut her own car door I can imagine she's finding it hard to treat normal human beings like non human underlings. She probably says please and thank you with eye contact.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 09/11/2018 06:08

@Pawnee

Just read the article in the DM.
Sounds like made up tosh, bearing in mind Eugenie wore Emeralds a few months later.

thatone · 09/11/2018 06:30

I thought it looked brilliant the first time she wore it and I do admire her for re-wearing it, but..at the same time,,,..I think it's looking a bit dated.

AhoyDelBoy · 09/11/2018 06:34

Yes it’s abit disappointing Curly. Sorry Charles but between you and Louis, Louis wins hands down! (Or any of the DGC, obviously).

AhoyDelBoy · 09/11/2018 07:04

I agree thatone. It also looks better with an updo as a PP said 💁🏼‍♀️

I woke up to this follow request on Instagram ShockShock

(Obviously not the real Andrew...)

@thatone - the jade dress? Yet I think the opposite - it's beautiful and well cut. It's a classic and will last her years. Pence per wear, and all that.

VanillaSugary · 09/11/2018 07:18

Oh it is queen, oh it is.........

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/11/2018 07:23

@VanillaSugary What was that I said earlier about him marrying again? Better start polishing that 👑👑

VanillaSugary · 09/11/2018 07:39

Windsor Registry Office is very nice, so Camilla tells me.

What will you wear? I've already been involved in a minions themed wedding on another thread, so given Andrew's love of golf, all things turfed and greened seems appropriate. You need four bridesmaids, obviously.

Oh, and congratulations!!! What's your ring like?

Clionba · 09/11/2018 07:48

Right, Queen - I'm thinking a tiara with sapphires, or possibly that lovely one with the aquamarines?
On the Meghan/HM story - the one thing that rings true is HM querying whether Meghan should wear a veil as a second time bride. The rest? Who knows. Maybe Megs fancied the emerald one, but HM already promised it to Eugs??

beanaseireann · 09/11/2018 07:48

I prefer Kate wearing her hair down with that lovely green dress. It's a younger look.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 09/11/2018 07:53

Thing is how would anyone know that there were disagreements. I’m sure they all sign non disclosures. Sounds like made up tosh to me!

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/11/2018 07:54

@Clionba Oh yes that would be lovely, and it'd be time for Bea and Euj to move out and stand on their own two feet! I can just see the AIBU now...

OP posts:
TheCraicDealer · 09/11/2018 07:55

Eugenie could've just worn a different tiara that also happened to have emeralds in it. She's probably had an idea of what she wanted for a loooong time and so her pick might not have been made available for Meghan to select from. Especially if the gossip is true and she did have to postpone her wedding for Harry to "go first".

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 09/11/2018 07:58

I would expect as a granddaughter of the monarch Eugenie would get to choose first & also know the tiaras very well. Meghan at the end of the day is a granddaughter in law (even though higher up the ranks).

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/11/2018 07:58

That article about Meghan is actually in The Sun, which is even less reliable than the Mail!

If it isn't completely made up, I'm guessing she picked an emerald tiara, was told she couldn't wear it and then said "oh okay" and picked another! Though why a forbidden tiara would've been amongst the ones she was shown, I really don't know.

As for the veil, maybe HM went "a veil for a second marriage?" and when told yes just shrugged her shoulders and got on with the rest of her day?
