Here we go again!

Special edition: Eugenie wedding thread

Harry and Meghan have 2 days more in NZ before they head back to London and, if I was her, I'd put on pyjamas, get Netflix fired up, and not leave my bed for several days! William and Kate will be out for a sporty engagement in Essex tomorrow and I'm sure we'll start to see them more as she's now officially back from maternity leave..

No idea what the continental royals are up to but New My Royals (does that title even make sense?) is my go-to link for them!

I'm not one to diss the Queen but by reading the autobiography of Philip's early life, apparently HM and PPhil were largely absent from Charles's life for the first 3 years. She sent to Malta twice without him (the second time just weeks after Anne's birth) and was reported to be, even then, very unmaternal. Poor Charles. He's still a prat now though

Disfordarkchocolate · 04/11/2018 14:40

Those cakes are pretty poor, especially the one with Diana. Scary not realistic.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/11/2018 15:17

@VanillaSugary They also left him and Anne with the QM for 6 months to tour the Commonwealth. And when they returned she apparently went to some event like Ascot before going to see her children. Upon being reunited with Charles, she shook his hand!

I think she might've been a bit more hands-on with Andrew and Edward, though of course they'd have been raised by nannies too.

I also wonder whether Doria didn't have obvious support because it opens that person up to INSANE scrutiny. If I was extended family and friend of someone marrying into the royal family I think I would also prefer to simply attend wedding as anonymous guest than glide In alongside the mother of the bride and invite a lot of media attention.

beanaseireann · 04/11/2018 15:49

Bling
I'm hoping that's what happened.
Doria seems to be a really nice lady.

missclimpson · 04/11/2018 16:06

The Queen was also left with her grandparents for six months as a young baby while her parents went on a Royal Tour. It was very common for upper-class parents to spend long periods of time away from their children and even more so for people in India and other outposts of the Empire. There are plenty of books which talk about how unhappy it made the parents, but they saw it as their duty. I don't think it is entirely fair to judge their parenting by modern standards.
The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.

VanillaSugary · 04/11/2018 16:06

I agree bling

VanillaSugary · 04/11/2018 16:07

I think this is why the Queen 's sons and grandsons have all been best men for each other.

owlshooting · 04/11/2018 17:16

I am not sure that Meghan has made a habit of spending Christmas with Doria in previous years. There are photos of her spending it with friends before she met Harry, and last year Doria was not with her.

Does anyone have any idea why Meghan lived with her father and not her mother when her parents split? Her father brought her up.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 04/11/2018 17:55

Meghan lived with her mum. She saw her dad on set every day after school.

I think it’s great that Doria’s been invited for Christmas. She’s a very gracious lady.
Kate & William have spent a couple of Christmases at the Middletons.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 04/11/2018 18:04

Apparently Apartment 1A The Gloucesters old residence at KP has now finished its refurbished. I guess it won’t be long till Harry & Meghan move in.
I wonder if she had picked a modern interior?

owlshooting · 04/11/2018 18:36

That's odd curly... i read that meghan lived with her Dad from about the age of 11. It's confusing..

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/11/2018 18:58

If it's her dad who's saying that then I wouldn't believe a word of it!

Meghan & Harry have appointed Julia Charles to design their other House in Great Tew, Oxfordshire. Apparently her business partner is James Corden’s wife; Julia. Which would explain why they were at the wedding.

owlshooting · 04/11/2018 19:24

Alright for some, eh?

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/11/2018 19:28

Charles has paid his interior designer/decorator millions, apparently. And she's none other than Annabel Elliot!

OP posts:
VanillaSugary · 04/11/2018 19:46

Umm who is Annabel Elliott?

Gonegrey31 · 04/11/2018 19:53

Camilla’s sister

VanillaSugary · 04/11/2018 20:10

Aaaahhhhh!

IdaBWells · 04/11/2018 20:24

I live in the states and over here it is a given that Meg grew up with her mum and attended a private all girls Catholic school before going of to Chicago for college. I have no idea where this idea sprung up in the UK that her dad raised her. You can see clearly from her relationship with Doria who Meghan turns to constantly and who supports her emotionally that she is Meg’s most significant familial relationship.

IdaBWells · 04/11/2018 20:34

Totally agree with the comments about Charlie’s PR, he always seems to pick duds or maybe this is at Charles’ insistence that they put out these inane stories but they are so clearly manufactured out of nothing that they are transparently planted.

I thought he and Camilla were getting along fine in terms of being accepted and I think he does best when he does not bring himself to the attention of the population! The stupid story about how he never wanted to marry Diana that came out recently also just made him look weak. Just let it go man! It was 35 years ago and you are the most privileged man in Britain! It never sits well when he tries to elicit any kind of sympathy. Everything seems to have worked out very well for him, he should just be quiet and stop trying to increase his popularity.

user1457017537 · 04/11/2018 20:57

It’s a bit of a snub for the Middleton’s though, although I’m sure Carol’s Christmasses are almost as good as the ones at Sandringham! Can’t imagine William being happy!

user1457017537 · 04/11/2018 20:59

I know she wasn’t Royalty but was closely associated with them, but I loved Tara Palmer Tomlinson who was elegant, chic, beautiful and talented. RIP Tara hope you found peace

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/11/2018 21:18

Don't William and Kate break with tradition some years and spend Christmas Day with her family? I guess with them he can have the happy family Christmas that he never had with the royals, except perhaps when he was very young.
