I only have one coat and it’s 3 yrs old. That makes me virtually deprived!

dontcallmelen · 25/10/2018 15:38

Talking of coats, has anyone got the boden puffa coat? was tempted with 25% off & the green makes a change from navy or black.

CountFosco · 25/10/2018 16:01

Anyone tried the Charlie Twist Flannel Dress? I'm needing a casual shirt dress but as a shortarse am not sure if it will be too long.

SoyYo · 25/10/2018 16:10

not I work 50% from home and 50% with EU travel so totally agree it’s nice to plan office outfits. Tip for Skype meetings (other than smart jacket with jammy bottoms Grin) is to put on some red lipstick on. I think with the laptop camera is not so in your face and gives the impression of being on top of your game Wink

melen just had a look at the long green Boden puffa and it does look super super cozy, but quite high £ even with the discount. I’m sure it’s great quality though so definitely worth a try if you’re after a warm winter coat. Obvious alternative is Uniglo but theirs tend to be quite thin. I saw the lady at midlife chic blog had a feature on Uniglo if you’re interested and as you’re in London you can actually try on in RL rather than mess around with returns:www.midlifechic.com/winter-wardrobe-building-blocks/

Sorry link again as above didn’t work.

SoyYo · 25/10/2018 16:15

Count I had the black/gold version of the Charlie twist dress but returned, it’s not too long and a size 12 fitted generously so possibly size down but the check version may be different.
Reason I returned is it wasn’t flattering on my shape, not bad either, just meh...and the black/gold fabric was very itchy but the check being different may be great.
Not much help sorry!

ilovecherries · 25/10/2018 16:16

I like the Boden one, I’m wondering about the weight. I like my puffas warm but lightweight. I put one on in Debenhams and it was like wearing a concrete block. I’m feeling distinctly deprived on the coat front. Although the shoes are such an issue for me that limits choice as well.

dontcallmelen · 25/10/2018 16:24

Thanks Soy will have a look.
cherries yy the weight I had a really lovely puffa coat from monsoon a few years ago, was super warm & cosy but quite light they are doing a similar style now, buts it’s not nearly as well filled.

neveradullmoment99 · 25/10/2018 16:37

When you consider the price of hush jumpers and then look at poetry's and what they are made of hush's prices are pretty shocking. Some of the jumpers are expensive but they are made of mostly alpaca and other good natural wools.

ilovecherries · 25/10/2018 17:15

The year I emerged from my opiate fug but before I lost weight, I was introduced to poetry by another plus size MNer. I spent a fortune, their stuff is fantastic quality. Holds its price too, I think I got about 2/3 to 3/4 of my original spend back on ebay, which considering it was all used, I was very happy with.

neveradullmoment99 · 25/10/2018 17:30

this is lovely

neveradullmoment99 · 25/10/2018 17:31

The thing about poetry is they rarely if ever have voucher codes and there sales aren't that great. I wish they would encourage me with vouchers!!!!

neveradullmoment99 · 25/10/2018 17:31

their sales!

neveradullmoment99 · 25/10/2018 17:33

Hush is expensive for dresses but Poetry is really beyond my budget.

SoyYo · 25/10/2018 18:38

Poetry is truly lovely cherries and you’re right given how much Hush are asking for their acrylic mix jumpers it suddenly doesn’t seem quite so ££
I love this velvet coat (actually quite similar to my old Boden purple silk velvet one from many moons ago but still going strong) Stunning!

SoyYo · 25/10/2018 18:42

Told you I’m always drawn to impractical coats Grin I’m really proud of myself for deciding to part with cash for that Seasalt raincoat Wink

SoyYo · 25/10/2018 18:52

Or crazy coats, with loud colours or checks or both. Now leopard fur added. They’re all really nicely cut though (in my defence).
I think the only “classic” one I own is a grey Ines de la Fressange Uniglo single breasted long wool Coat which is so boringly normal I’ve only worn it twice...
And a big collection of leather/suede jackets (they don’t count as they’re jackets)
This year I had to part with a sea green boiled wool one I found in a little boutique in Wells this spring as it was so worn out, I still miss its bohemian vibe...sorry I can go on talking about coats forever!

dontcallmelen · 25/10/2018 18:54

Oh my never jumpers are beautiful, I really love the cashmere hoody but it’s ££

SoyYo · 25/10/2018 18:55

But I don’t like Joe Bloggs or whatever the “quirky” clothes website is....a step too far even for me!

dontcallmelen · 25/10/2018 19:04

Whilst making a start on my wardrobe, I found some coats that I can’t even remember the last time I wore, one was a beautiful bronze silk with dark green velvet embroidery dotted about on it, a cream one with ribbon edges & a sort of angled front fastening.
I have been looking at sensible & practical coats all afternoon, but keep procrastinating as the little voice in my head keeps saying nah buy something fabulous 😳

SoyYo · 25/10/2018 19:08

never being in Scotland you must have access to fabulous cashmere shops no?
My ”outlaws” live near Perth and a highlight for years was to pop into McEwans, which unfortunately went into administration and closed down after 150 years as a family owned old fashioned department store.
Ness was also fun to pop in with their take on colourful tartan and reasonably priced but I think they’ve also been in financial trouble.
Another favourite place to pop to is House of Bruar in Pitlochry.
I guess it’s a bit of a drive for you, but definitely worth it at sale time.
cherries you are near Scotland too?

SoyYo · 25/10/2018 19:12

Sounds like a spectacular coat melen but repeat after me:
Must get a boring woops! Practical winter coat Grin

neveradullmoment99 · 25/10/2018 19:22

Its something I have never looked for here. I may do. We have the Edinburgh woollen mill not far but the styles are very dated. I haven't really explored anywhere else. Hush cashmere is absolutely beautiful though. Its from Mongolia.

CountFosco · 25/10/2018 19:23

Thanks Soy. Trip to Johnny Loulous this weekend so I might try it. It's that or Boohoo!

neveradullmoment99 · 25/10/2018 19:25

Its Mongolian grade 1 whatever that means.
