Margaret was the glamorous night-clubbing, smoking princess.

It sounds like she also suffered from a lack of purpose in life. She was not the type to enjoy playing second fiddle m, so I'm sure she'd have made an excellent Queen or grand duchess in another European country. Unfortunately for her WWI put an end to those kinds of marriages.

Earl Spencer did use that thick or thin line in his wedding speech - something along the lines of "those of you who know Victoria know she's thick, and she's certainly thin!" He sounds like a horrid man but I get the feeling his current wife has him under control.

One of the websites researched the foreign visits of Meghan and Harry from summer 2016 onwards and worked out they had only actually spent a total of 36 days in each other’s company before they were engaged.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 28/10/2018 16:53

She wears it in a ponytail loads of times anyway!

Fair enough. I obviously need to pay more attention (I didn't think I could pay any more attention!).

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 28/10/2018 16:53

Isn't Diana supposed to have pushed Raine down the stairs at some family event? Possibly her father's funeral?

I heard she shoved all of Raine’s clothes into bin bags and kicked them down the stairs!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 28/10/2018 16:56

@Montecarla

I think that was one of the reasons many people said their relationship wouldn’t last...
Let’s see how they are in 2/3 years time once they’ve got 2 little ones and the hormones are wearing off.

Alwayscheerful · 28/10/2018 17:00

Yes, Diane allegedly pushed Raine down the stairs after her brothers wedding.

Raines belongings were packed in Suitcases adorned with the Spencer family crest, the "children" unpacked them and put them in black bin bags!

Notmyrealname85 · 28/10/2018 17:04

If that’s true why would you get engaged so quickly?! Is it really true?

I don’t want to be too negative, but friends in NY said it was known he was dating another girl at the same time as Meghan. That’s why I thought they were more relaxed, they were just having casual fun

That’s no time to get to know each other though!!

mathanxiety · 28/10/2018 17:06

I think it was Diana's brother who got engaged after 6 weeks, not Harry.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 28/10/2018 17:08

Meghan’s last visit to New Zealand in 2014.

Well Meghan was living with the chef Cory Vitello when she went on her blind date with Harry

VanillaSugary · 28/10/2018 18:57

Anyway....... back to fluffy clothes....

When do they come back? It's nearly Christmas and the Sandringham visit (in 7 weeks).

7salmonswimming · 28/10/2018 19:13

SilentIsla - anyone would think you might have a bit of a girl crush on KM Wink. And maybe harbor a touch of resentment towards MM?! Grin

They’re both accomplished women, with different strengths. They’re both very good looking. They’re both the epitome of privileged. The rest is just nit-picking isn’t it? Diminishing one doesn’t elevate the other.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/10/2018 19:15

@VanillaSugary I think they're heading back on Wednesday. And then we probably won't see Meghan for about a month! I know they're getting the best of everything and flying first-class etc but even so, she must be knackered.

Funny to see Charles in those Spencer wedding photos with a full head of dark hair!

I found the story of Diana pushing Raine down the stairs. I watched the documentary about Raine last year and she sounds like an interesting woman and very capable. She and Diana eventually made amends and became friendly with each other. It was Diana's own mother who turned against her towards the end.

Jlynhope · 28/10/2018 19:45

I think if Diana hadn't been so beautiful and charming, and Charles hadn't been so awkward and unattractive, the media narrative would have been much different.

I love all the work Diana did and I bawled when she died, but she always struck me a very vulnerable, volatile, mentally ill woman. I think privately she was an enormous handful.

MonteCarla · 28/10/2018 19:52

@mathanxiety They spent 36 days together over something like 15 months.

MonteCarla · 28/10/2018 19:53

@CurlyWurlyTwirly Indeed she was!

LimpyLampy · 28/10/2018 20:02

It is well known that Diana was not the saint she was portrayed to be after her death. In fairness, there were many contributory factors and people, not least Charles who simply should never have married her.

I think William comes across as very entitled and aloof. Kate less so but she has taken to blending into the background to an entirely new level and her affected accent is offputting. I think Megan is acting her way around which is an excellent use of her talents and she is exactly what the RF needed to caterpult them into this century particularly as Kate seems so intent on returning to the last one!

I think M&H, though understandable, moved very quickly. Interesting to read about them all, it really is like a tv drama series.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 28/10/2018 20:18

I hope that Meghan continues to get her platform to speak and promote the causes she believes in. I have grown to like her and respect her work ethic and professionalism.
I do however think she is extremely ambitious and I hope the RF channels this so that she does not get bored and restless....

The facts are she has cut ties with significant people in her past without a backward glance. She has also observed that until her death; the divorced Diana was building a significant profile outside the RF.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/10/2018 20:19

Say what you like about Meghan, you can't deny that she's hit the ground running! This tour has been pretty full-on but apart from that one morning off, she's turned up everyday with a smile on her face, spoken to people, given speeches, and consistently supported Harry. That photo of him practising his speech in front of just her in an empty auditorium spoke volumes.

And she's maintained a dignified silence in the face of her family's behaviour, which is probably the best course of action.

PawneeParksDept · 28/10/2018 20:20

She also threw herself down the stairs when pregnant to spite Charles IIRC

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/10/2018 20:21

Thought you meant Meghan for a moment @PawneeParksDept! But yes, that story about Diana was in the Andrew Morton book. I can't remember if she was pregnant with William or Harry at the time.

OP posts:
LimpyLampy · 28/10/2018 20:26

Why do you say Megan has cut ties with certain people without a backward glance. She didn’t grow up with the stepsister who repeatedly shows us how vile she is and I imagine Megan is devastated at her father’s betrayal of her and is realising how few people she knows who she can really trust. I think this must be an awful time for her when it should be the happiest time in her life.
