For the icon, you have to use [ ] not ( ), and no spaces. I had to switch to my laptop to do it, only ( ) on my phone.

SeaRabbit · 26/10/2018 17:27

But George would be the King straight away.

Mary Queen if Scots (why is she always called that, not Queen Mary of Scotland?) the only surviving legitimate child of King James V, was six days old when her father died and she acceded to the throne

Newspeak · 26/10/2018 17:27

I watched a documentary that suggested everything was kept for prosperity at Kensington palace. Air dried and whole rooms just full of clothes! Can you imagine getting in there! I dream of such things.

SeaRabbit · 26/10/2018 17:28

Or even Mary, Queen of Scots...

Newspeak · 26/10/2018 17:28

Which is how princes George can be spotted wearing Williams baby clothes.

SenecaFalls · 26/10/2018 17:30

Under the current Regency Act, the regent would be the next person in the line of succession who is age 21 or over, so that would be Harry.

CoachBombay · 26/10/2018 17:36

Crown I'm not giving up lol...

Yes regency act would mean Harry would be the regent till George was 18. He would probably then have his coronation to be King at 20/21

There was rumour last year that QE would invoke the regency act if she was still Queen at the age of 95. But it would be Charles who was regent.

LimpyLampy · 26/10/2018 17:39

Newsoeak Ecerything isn’t kept, just the very good clothes and the ones worn at certain public events.

There was somebody on this thread who had access to the palace and said many of Kate’s clothes (this was pre Megan and Harry’s marriage), were not made to the same quality nowadays as they would have been fifty years ago and they simply couldn’t be kept. Hand made dresses from back then aren’t comparable to sweat factory clothes yet they must dispose of them somehow and I presume ethically? Wedding dresses and certain clothes would be kept and catalogued though. My question though was what happens to the ordinary clothes they wear - the Me and Em/Reiss/Zara clothes?

SenecaFalls · 26/10/2018 17:42

I just realized my tips on making the crown were confusing because "brackets" does not mean the same thing in American English. We call the curly ones "parentheses" and the square ones "brackets."

Clionba · 26/10/2018 17:44

Kate gives clothes to her mum and sister. Her mum has been spotted wearing her clothes on a few occasions. Diana got people to sell hers in those "quality lightly worn" shops. Paul Burrell said at one point she had £11k in cash in her desk drawer as a result!! Imagine buying something, not knowing the provenance!

VanillaSugary · 26/10/2018 17:44

I wear my wedding tiara everyday to put my make up on.

The Queen is getting very thin. The most recent photo of her this week saying goodbye to Max highlights how thin her legs have got. I think that Liz 'n' Phil may depart this world very closely together. I know someone who lost both his parents within 3 weeks of each other

God bless you, ma'am.

WindyWednesday · 26/10/2018 17:45

I’m sure I read somewhere that HM, does donate her clothes to a charity shop. Very discreetly.

Her day to day work wear would be good for MOB. Maybe a dress agency?

Spudlet · 26/10/2018 17:53

It's not uncommon, I think, for very elderly couples to pass away in fairly quick succession. Grief puts such a physical strain on a person.

HMQ and Prince Philip are both looking fairly frail these days Sad.

As an aside though, aren't we all lucky that it's no longer treason to speculate about the monarch's death?!

TipseyTorvey · 26/10/2018 18:09

Crown. There are all those princessing threads I like which remind you to look after yourself a bit more and wear all those clothes you 'keep for best' then never wear. With small DC currently I have visions when the youngest gets to 5 or 6 I might be able to wear a tiara to get dressed....sometimes maybe.

PawneeParksDept · 26/10/2018 18:17

I think if Harry ended up as regent for George they would extend it beyond 18 to allow him to go to university and then get a bit of life experience rather than hand that burden to a lad fresh out of sixth form

Their clothes sometimes are sold for charity too, lots of Diana's were after her death, and Beatrice and the hat etc

MonteCarla · 26/10/2018 18:18

@Clionba That’s interesting, what rights does the queen have?

MonteCarla · 26/10/2018 18:19

There was a very intriguing blind item the other day actually about MM and her outfits; it implies she is getting a cut of the costs! It was on CDAN if you’re interested!

BigGreenOlives · 26/10/2018 18:23

That black and white dress is utterly stunning, how wonderful to own a dress like that. I can imagine having hanging in my bedroom so I could lie in bed and look at it. I love beautifully made things, I have so much respect for the people who can create such wonderful items.

Clionba · 26/10/2018 18:26

MonteCarla she has custody rights. She doesn't interfere in their parenting, but her legal team are involved in monitoring.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/10/2018 18:33

Wouldn't necessarily be Harry who'd be regent, it could be Kate. There have been regencies for child kings before, but that was when the monarch wielded far more power.

OP posts:
Clionba · 26/10/2018 18:37

Almost certainly a Regency Council, with the PM involved.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/10/2018 18:37

@VanillaSugary HM still seems to be in good health but I think once the Duke goes then we'll see a sharp decline in her. For all his faults, he's been by her side for 70 (70!) years.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 26/10/2018 18:44

Wasn’t John Major a guardian of William & Harry? As he was PM when Charles & Diana divorced. So maybe a similar thing for a regency?

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/10/2018 18:49

Yes he was. A far better choice than the option of Andrew, I'd imagine!

WipsGlitter · 26/10/2018 18:55

I think WIlliam and Harry are still close to John and Norma Major. They were at the wedding.
