Harry & Meghan have arrived in Sydney.
The purple folders coordinating with her coat will not slow down speculation...

Agree about the hand on bump. It's a bit affected and 'look at me'. Much like the way she continually holds her left hand out to display her rings. It's irritating. Along with the constant fiddling with her hair. Rant over.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 23/10/2018 14:08

Forgot to say lovely colour evening dress but don't like the back of it...

Maxima always poised and looks like she's enjoying herself. Smile

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/10/2018 14:18

Maxima must be pretty tall. Prince Charles is about 6 foot and she tops him in her heels. HM is getting tinier with the passing of every year!

thatone · 23/10/2018 14:24

Not massively keen on the blue dress. It needs something - either more jewellery or some subtle embroidery. And the material looks quite heavy - might have worked better with a more drapy fabric.

I do like the white dress but the fitting at this stage of pregnancy look uncomfortable.

I don't always like Kate's choices but with her I get the impression that once she's dressed and ready she's focussed on giving attention to her 'audience' and unbothered about how she looks. She does seem very self-assured and relaxed, which I never really appreciated before as Meghan looks so uncertain and nervous.

susurration · 23/10/2018 14:25

I wouldn't be surprised if Prince Charles has shrunk a bit with age. When you see him next to William or Harry these days he seems considerably shorter than he used to.

I love the Queen's regal purple today. I've also developed a fondness for the headband style head dress that Max is wearing and has been seen on Kate and Bea. Very Tudor!

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/10/2018 14:31

Interesting point @thatone. Conversely, when Kate has to give a speech she seems very nervous and a bit stilted but when Meghan spoke at the launch of Together she was very confident and natural.

WipsGlitter · 23/10/2018 14:33

I think Meghan is a confident speaker. But all the rest of that - the bowing and scraping and ceremony must be so new to her she looks bemused most of the time!

I love that blue dress and earrings!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 23/10/2018 14:45

Prince Charles is about 5' 10 or 5'11.
There was q big deal about him & Diana being the same height and he stood on a higher step than Diana for their engagement photos.

William is 6'3"; Kate is 5'8 or 5'9".
Harry is 6'1" and I would put Meghan at 5'6; 5'7 max

Kate is comfortable being royal; but not directly in the spotlight.
Meghan loves the spotlight, but she is not accustomed to being royal

I think Megan is her own woman, she was successful and is independent. It must be completely at odds to be told how to bow, curtesy, look, what to say, what not to say. It must feel bezatre and funny and really all she can do is act it out as if it is a new role.

Kate never did anything much so it was much easier for her to fall in with being told how to behave. Also people spoke of her as if she should be grateful to be part of it.

The RF should be honoured both these woman agreed to be part of it.

'Affected' is a good word and I think is at the root of why she sets my teeth on edge a bit. Maybe hopefully she'll relax and learn to just 'be' instead of perpetually acting the part.

SenecaFalls · 23/10/2018 15:18

William is 6'3"

Which interestingly still will not be enough to make him the tallest British monarch when he ascends: the record will still belong to Edward IV, who was over 6'4" .

Next in order of height would be Henry VIII, Charles II, and James II, I think. There were also some very tall women: Mary Queen of Scots and Mary II.

Bugjune · 23/10/2018 15:22

The blue of that gown is very striking, perhaps not her best colour though but she wears it well regardless. The bump is very noticeable all of a sudden, it seems to have popped out overnight. Shock

SilentIsla · 23/10/2018 15:26

Agree that the attention seeking behaviour is grating.

TokyoSushi · 23/10/2018 15:49

Meghan's irritating me on this trip. I can't quite put my finger on why, maybe it's all the hand holding?

I am/was a big fan, I even drove 4 hours to see the carriage procession at the wedding but she's definitely grating at the moment.

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/10/2018 15:58

I hardly think occasionally holding her bump qualifies as attention-seeking!

TokyoSushi · 23/10/2018 16:03

It's not that @QueenOfTheAndals it's something else, but I'm not sure what!

I loved holding my bump when I was pregnant so I can definitely forgive her that.

Paradyning · 23/10/2018 16:06

But holding her bump in an official photo. You only see that on the red carpet.

TokyoSushi · 23/10/2018 16:14

Hmm I hear what you're saying @Paradyning

I'm going to listen to my mother for once and abiding by, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

gingercat02 · 23/10/2018 16:22

Apparently I stroked my bump all the time and wasn't aware I was doing it so maybe Meghan doesn't realise either, although I don't mind the look. Also she is very obviously pregnant and she wasn't a few weeks ago in the green blouse and leather skirt so maybe she had had some sort of extra strength corset spanks on and can now enjoy letting it all hang out so to speak

SenecaFalls · 23/10/2018 16:23

I don't think she is holding her bump. She just has her hand in front of her. I certainly don't see it as attention seeking.

LimpyLampy · 23/10/2018 16:30

OH my ..... it is not attention seeking at all! Those photographs will hang in nearby visitor centres for evermore. She obviously will want to highlight she was pregnant and not fat! She is obviously proud of soon becoming a mum.

I disliked being pregnant with my second child because I really did not want to be pregnant. I had depression and couldn’t see past the idea that my perfect older child would no longer have my full undivided attention and I would have less time to spend with him. It makes me happy to see another soon to be mother so proud of her bump.

And really for those who say that a woman they don’t know/have never spoken to/have never met grates on them is really shocking and more like Daily Fail reader comments.

It is supposed to be about clothes!

TokyoSushi · 23/10/2018 16:38

I'm sorry, I was unnecessarily unkind, I did love the blue dress

DisMember · 23/10/2018 16:40

I knew she’d go!

MM has things lined up re speeches to women/women’s empowerment and in Tonga a women’s craft collective or some such.

She’s definitely better at shoes than Kate (though she has raised her game)who appeared to have those nude patent courts surgically attached during her first overseas tour.
