Harry & Meghan have arrived in Sydney.
The purple folders coordinating with her coat will not slow down speculation...

Worst Kate outfit was at Pippa's wedding.

I usually try to only comment on the clothes that I like, but I make an exception for that dress. What were they thinking?

Speaking of ugly dresses, I see they haven't had Maria the nanny out in that Norland uniform again.

Skittlesandbeer · 18/10/2018 23:27

I can report she’s definitely dressing for the weather, down under. Unfortunately for her, and whoever plans her outfits, Spring is the most changeable season on the east coast. The macs/trench coats are not so much fashion choices as practical ones.

Same day as their tour in Melbourne? I wore a hooded mac over a T-shirt, then added a cardi for school pickup. Started the day in a skirt & bare legs, ended in jeans. My footwear did not involve stilettos. It did involve gumboots, sneakers and sandals. All in a 9hr period.

And another thought- if it’s rainy/cool weather and you need a mac, it really changes the whole outfit, doesn’t it? I mean you’ll look better in unfussy plain neutrals underneath? I know that’s her style default anyway, but I think a trench coat might be pushing her looks away from patterns, brights or edgy options. Maybe they’ll come out of the suitcase when she goes north and the rain (hopefully) stops.

Today's stripey maxi dress is gorgeous but a tad long imo. I don't think she quite realises she can get everything altered/tailored to perfection, unlike normal people!

AhoyDelBoy · 19/10/2018 00:05

As above I love this dress and this is one of my favourite photos ever of Kate.

I used to buy from L K Bennett but once Kate and the Middleton’s promoted the brand the prices shot up and doubled.

Same happened to me with French Sole. Angry. I had to switch to Butterfly Twists.

Paradyning · 19/10/2018 02:32

I really don't like the maxi dress. Love the navy two-tone one though.

I like that Harry's beach shoes are completely battered too

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 19/10/2018 02:32

Finally Meghan is wearing a British designer; Roksanda.
The navy Blue, yawn, but I like the contrast Panel, and the nude show works.

On Bondi Beach, her Maxi dress ticked all the boxes, Aussie designer; casual, (but $$$s) , teamed with wedges! For me personally I didn’t like the colourway or stripes at all, but she won a lot of fashion plaudits for it.
I’ve never seen her in a Maxi, even pre Harry, so the change up is refreshing.

@Jackietheduck

I can see Kate wearing the same clothes..... just like Princess Anne

I interpreted this as meaning Kate will keep her figure and as her clothes aren’t high fashion, they are timeless enough ( or I guess will be vintage) for her to rewear in 30 years.

Speaking of Vintage, it would be cool to see the York girls rewear some of the Queen’s vintage clothes from the 50s. They’ve both got tiny waists and the Hanoverian bosom. Would be interesting to see the clothes they again.

OlennasWimple · 19/10/2018 03:12

Curly - that's exactly what I meant. And to have a vintage wardrobe to draw on in the future, it needs to be built up now. Even Anne wore a lot of new clothes once!

AuldAlliance · 19/10/2018 05:31

I'm intrigued that people are criticising Meghan's dress, yet not commenting on her husband's footwear...

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 19/10/2018 06:29

@OlennasWimple

It’s a long way off, but I’d like Charlotte to wear some vintage.
By the time she’s an adult, she is likely to be very tall & modelesque, given the combination of William’s height & Kaye’s figure.

Maybe the potential to rewear explains why Kate has so many versions of the same outfit. McQueen definitely suits her. It’s no different to the Queen and Queen Mother wearing Norman Hartnell exclusively back in the day. Apparently the QM only wore one style of hat, and just varied the colours and the trimmings.

Agree with a pp that Meghan’s dress is too long. I think it’s the wrong type of dress for the occasion myself. Meghan’s wardrobe is a fail for me so far unfortunately. I haven’t liked much she’s worn since they were married. Maybe I’ll just stick to being a Kate wardrobe watcher Smile

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 19/10/2018 06:38

Like Meghan's striped dress. Nice change for her.

Paradyning · 19/10/2018 06:43

Erm Auld I mentioned his footwear .....

AuldAlliance · 19/10/2018 07:03

Sorry, Paradyning, I missed your comment for some reason.
It doesn't entirely disprove my point, though.

M is the object of intense scrutiny and criticism.
H can wear scruffy old slip on shoes without anyone batting an eyelid.

QueenOfTheAndals · 19/10/2018 07:19

I love the striped maxi dress, although it's maybe a tad too maxi. And espadrilles! The Roksanda is lovely too (although I didn't know that was a british brand), though I thought she looked more pregnant in it. Meghan seems to have been very impressed with the schoolkids they met, judging from what she said to them.

I think they have an evening engagement with the PM next, so that may involve another outfit change. Harry climbed the Harbour Bridge earlier but if I was Meghan I'd be quite glad to have the excuse of pregnancy and not do that!

AhoyDelBoy · 19/10/2018 07:23

I think as the tour progresses it’s easy to see why they announced the pregnancy. Climbing the harbour bridge (I don’t think I’d do that pregnant or not!) and the inevitable ‘then and now’ comparisons that would have been made regarding Meghan’s waistline (she looks lovely but is obviously in the early stages of pregnancy).

Clionba · 19/10/2018 07:37

Just before George was born, the Cambridges went on a tour which included Malaysia. Kate had some lovely outfits, which I've never seen repeated, including a stunning gold embroidered evening dress (I'm trying to find a pic). She's had hundreds of gorgeous outfits, but has not repeated most of them.

Moononthehill28 · 19/10/2018 07:57

I am not keen on that maxi dress. I think it’s ugly and too long. Personally I haven’t been very keen on her outfits in this trip generally, with the exception of the white dress and the navy dress. Both of which looked great.
I think she often wears things that swamp her, don’t fit property or are just odd looking. I thought the Serena jacket looked awful on her.
It’s great to see how loving they are with each other. It’s a refreshing change from the usual stiff formality.

QueenOfTheAndals · 19/10/2018 08:00

Here you go @Clionba, the gold dress is in this slide show. The silk dress with the parasol was also a hit for me - it looks like the cover of a romance novel set in 1930s Singapore or something!

I liked her Indian tour wardrobe, especially that spotted Tory Burch she wore to dinner with the King and Queen of Bhutan (who, I might add, are a ridiculously good-looking pair). The boho-luxe vibe she spotted during that tour really suited her - she seemed much more comfortable in those clothes than in the suits and coat dresses she dons over here.

Her Australia tour had several highlights too - namely the Zimmerman she wore to Bondi beach. I'd happily wear it as a wedding dress, were I to marry again!

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 19/10/2018 08:00

It’s so nice to see William & Harry happy after their difficult childhood. Yes, I know they had oodles of cash but it doesn’t make up for your parents splitting in such a public way & for losing a parent in such a horrific way.

Mind you I think the happiest royal I’ve ever seen was Eugenie last week. It just oozed out of her! Was fab. Smile

QueenOfTheAndals · 19/10/2018 08:01

Bloody hell, it took me 20 minutes to compose that post!!!

AhoyDelBoy · 19/10/2018 08:11

@QueenOfTheAndals
Yes! I don’t even need to click on the link to know what the Zimmerman dress is, absolutely beautiful!

AhoyDelBoy · 19/10/2018 08:13

@Moononthehill28
I have to agree. The only outfit I’ve liked has been the navy Dion Lee. Oh and the khaki number (I’d forgotten about that).

WipsGlitter · 19/10/2018 08:26

I really don't like that maxi dress. Colour or style. It's too long for her.
