Harry & Meghan have arrived in Sydney.
The purple folders coordinating with her coat will not slow down speculation...

@Queen; thanks for the links.
(Although the first one had an unintended destination methinks)

I really liked the Indian tour wardrobe. I think the colours were perfect for there and agree, especially the Queen of Bhutan is so beautiful.
I think Kate puts a lot of thought into her tour wardrobes and it shows.

Meghan has obviously worn lots of Aussie designers but there has not been a single wow moment for me and lots of that’s just ugly or boring.
I know people will say that she is wearing her own style, but that entire tour wardrobe has been funded by the Foreign Office, ie us. She’s worn 1 single British designer out of at least 10 outfits. She’s promoted her millionaire friend’s clothing line.

Apart from a few exceptions I have found her entire wardrobe since she was confirmed as Harry’s girlfriend ( only one year ago) distinctly underwhelming. In the same time period, ie 2011, Kate looked stunning. Her evening dresses were Jenny Packham gowns, not an endless parade of black and navy, very plain frocks.

@clionba

Here’s the gold dress from Malaysia
It was in a retrospective of all of her Jenny Packham dresses

Kate’s early looks were definitely stunning and hopefully there'll be a return to a similar style. Those Jenny Packham gowns were gorgeous.

I don't know if there was any truth in the story about the queen telling her to lower her hemlines etc but she definitely toned it down in recent years - her own mother wore younger clothes! So her outfit at the V&A was, if a bit marmite, a refreshing change.

Paradyning · 19/10/2018 08:56

God I've always hated that Malaysia gone. And her hideous earrings. I still think Kate is Emperor's New Clothes. She's 'hits' in about 1 in 10. The knockouts for me were the JP gowns and the Roland Mouret that was worn for a private engagement then subsequently for public ones. And of course that Zimmerman.

Pupsiecola · 19/10/2018 08:58

I looked through your Jenny Packham link Curly. Wow - some absolutely stunning dresses.

QueenOfTheAndals · 19/10/2018 08:59

The white Mouret? Yes that was beautiful. She also wore a very striking blue one.

Paradyning · 19/10/2018 09:00

Her first single public engagement dress always reminds me of Madonna's titsoot dress. Hideous.

QueenOfTheAndals · 19/10/2018 09:05

I don't think she's ever worn anything that bare since @Paradyning.

And to think she went from the white Mouret to this Erdem monstrosity! I'll put that down to pregnancy brain, if such a thing exists, because there's no other excuse!

Agree that Kate nails it on tour. Great slide show of her outfits in the Aussie tour, I had forgotten how good it was. I think where Kate excels at is variety and dressing appropriately for the right occasion and country. We have said before that she may not be that into fashion. Do you think she has a very canny stylist who puts a shortlist together for her and she just picks? I doubt that she curates her wardrobe herself.

As for Meghan I agree that the maxi dress is too long but I guess good for the beach. I am seeing a lot less variety with M than with K but then again they are very different women, different tastes, different backgrounds (Kate seems to intuitively get ‘supporting UK designers’) and different futures in the RF.

I’d like to see how Kate’s wardrobe evolves after three kids and if she will still be as varied. Don’t know if they will get to make many long trips now kids are at school.

Cornwall73 · 19/10/2018 09:13

One thing I like about Meghan wardrobe is that it is the colours I like - lots of navy, some green. White shirts. Alas I don’t have the height, budget and body after kids. But all things being equal I could see myself wearing some (not all!) of the stuff she wears.
I cannot hear heels though!!!!Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 19/10/2018 09:14

Have Harry and Meghan attended any gown-worthy events since they married? I'm not sure they have. She's worn cocktail-length dresses but no gowns since her wedding day.

QueenOfTheAndals · 19/10/2018 09:15

Agree @Cornwall73, Meghan's wardrobe has several pieces I'd wear on a day to day basis!

QueenOfTheAndals · 19/10/2018 09:17

Having said that, I do own the blouse Kate is wearing in her official portrait, but I had it before that came out! Definitely going to check out &Other Stories for Meghan's green silk shirt though.

Kate does have a stylist; Natasha Archer

Cornwall73 · 19/10/2018 09:25

Natasha is obviously very good then, esp on tour!

Elledorado · 19/10/2018 09:25

The Zimmerman dress that Kate wore triggered an absolute glut of broderie anglaise over here.

Meghan is wearing Aussie designers, Curly, isn't that the done thing when they are on tour?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 19/10/2018 09:28

No it’s not the Aussie designers that’s the issue, it’s the complete lack of British designers. They are effectively diplomats promoting Britain. Fashion is a big part of that.

Do we know if Meghan has a stylist on her team?

IdaBWells · 19/10/2018 09:53

Yes, I think Meg and Harry are doing a fantastic job as ambassador for the UK but Meghan's wardrobe is very underwhelming. I don't hate it but don't love anything either.

So much of the time I feel she doesn't do herself justice, with her figure and coloring she could wear anything and so much colour if she wanted. The navy, black and olive is very boring and aging. She doesn't wear anything orginal ever, always overly safe. But maybe she's so new and finding her feet, give her time.

AhoyDelBoy · 19/10/2018 10:04

Thanks for the links Queen Smile
The 20 minutes was worth it Grin
I love all of Kate’s looks from the NZ/AU tour. Personal favourite being the black dress with the silver fern detail (but I’m a Kiwi so that’s probably why Grin). Followed closely by THEM ALL! Love the casual looks, the variety in her wardrobe and the cutest accessory of all baby George Smile

QueenOfTheAndals · 19/10/2018 10:05

Funnily enough the silver fern dress was one I wasn't too keen on. But I'm Australian so maybe that's why WinkGrin

QueenOfTheAndals · 19/10/2018 10:10

I found the shot of Kate on Prince Edward Island and am convinced she's a massive Anne of Green Gables fan!

www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-45902361 Kate is out with William at a BBC event but the photos don't really show what she is wearing. Burgundy/brown with spots.

AhoyDelBoy · 19/10/2018 10:21

Well that would explain it then Queen Grin
If I wasn’t from NZ I wouldn’t have looked twice at it TBF. I do like those types of touches she puts into her tour wardrobe though Smile

QueenOfTheAndals · 19/10/2018 10:34

Yes @AhoyDelBoy, like the hat in the form of a maple leaf!

@BigGlasses I recognise that dress, think it's a rewear.
