Very much so I think. My Mum wore Caleche, Miss Dior, Emeraude etc. Aldehydes a go-go. Chypre-is-the-word Grin Now I'm singing like John Travolta.

80s winter baby here and 90% of my perfume collection is citrus (which I continue to buy then continue to complain that my newest bottle has no longevity).

I started lurking on this thread to try and expand my horizons but instead I just seem to be on a fruitless hunt for the perfect citrus scent.

teta · 27/09/2018 09:15

I was born in the 60s ( had my kids v late). Then became a hippie in the 70s. But I was the only one not wearing patchouli and smelly old Afghans. I wore Opium and Rive Gauche along with the obligatory cheesecloth skirts and humungous wool cable knits/army surplus jackets. I don’t like any of the smells from that period now.
Wearing Rook perfumes Undergrowth today. I was underwhelmed when I first tried this but it’s so fresh and natural at this time of year. Dd2 commented it doesn’t smell like a perfume but is so good. Hmm, think I will buy a bottle. It will be the perfect antidote to the fustiness of winter.

I am in Opium. I feel I should be making mince pies and wrapping presents. Grin

PS Wolves, the perfect citrus is surely Eau d'Hadrien?

UnnecessaryFennel · 27/09/2018 11:01

I definitely need to give those Rook perfumes a try.

SOTD is Reverie au jardin - more Tauer-love. Smoky, resinous lavender. Adore.

I'm going to buy myself a FB of something Tauery, that's my new year resolution. I deserve it 😎

I need a full bottle of Lonestar Memories, that's for sure.

SeekingClosure · 27/09/2018 11:27

I'm in awe of how knowledgable you all are about perfume! How do you get to try all of these obscure ones mentioned? How do you know what you like before ordering from perfume parlour?

I want to find a winter perfume that I love but I am hugely fussy about smells. I love a nice fragrance (of a home or hotel usually) but most of the time I really hate anything artificial. I have a perfume lamp from Ashleigh Burwood and it's costing me a fortune trying to find an oil I can tolerate the smell of!

All summer I've been wearing Boss Orange or my Milton Lloyd dupe of Jimmy Choo. I have received two samples from Penhaligon's this week and one of them, Marylebone Wood, is gorgeous but it's 140-odd quid! Although it's unisex so dh and I could share it...

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 27/09/2018 12:06

I was born in the 80's so i guess me liking big hitters makes sense, it was the decade for them after all Grin

Lotsofpots · 27/09/2018 12:42

Did the feel unique tester thing and so SOTD is Floral Street Wonderland Peony. There is something very familiar about it and I can't put my finger on what it is. But I really like it. On me It's comforting and slightly sweet but with a sharpness that makes me want to keep sniffing.

Seeking- try sample sets, various places do them.
skins.nl
Juliette Has a Gun
Atelier Cologne (very cheap sample set compared to the full bottles)
Nose.fr- (though be warned, I firmly believe they do NOT send you what their diagnostic comes up based on what perfumes you like, but on what they have on their shelves that week- that said, I discovered one of my great loves Keiko Mecheri Cuir Cordoba via a set of Nose samples)
Scent Samples
If you're in the UK there are loads more, but I'm in furrin so tend to use these.

SeekingClosure · 27/09/2018 17:20

Thank you Book!

fishonabicycle · 27/09/2018 17:50

Early march, born in the sixties. I loathe opium, rive gauche, but love citrus, moss, white flowers, green scents. Prada Iris, Bottega Veneta, Maison Margiela Beach Walk, Lab on Fire California Snow, Acqua Di Parma iris, Hermes gardenia.

fishonabicycle · 27/09/2018 17:51

Also PP blackberry and bay, and Creed Virgin Island with water

MrsLucas · 27/09/2018 19:26

Seeking mainly from the suggestions on this thread! You have been warned....Grin

If not already mentioned, The Perfume Society shop has mixed sample boxes and sample collections from different houses - worth a look. Also Bloom do fabulous themed sample collections of niche stuff. Lots of love here for 4160Tuesdays - a small London perfumery, with reasonably priced samples and 9ml bottles, plus a weekly half price offer. Finally, lots of us pick up vintage stuff on eBay.

Blah - you are my Floral St evil twin!

Me too, Book - a full bottle of that would be heavenly. I could go to work smelling like a cowboy. ('Tis a bit like the Wild West on occasions).

That sounds right up me street Fennel. Liking Suffolk Lavender and Jicky for summer hits of lavender, but looking for something darker and stickier now the nights are drawing in. The Lion Cupboard (and one of my own creations!) sort of scratch that itch at the moment.

Not at all Koko - we like a bargain and/or a very small bottle Smile.
