Hyped products you hated?!

Just that really. I bought the IT cosmetics cc cream and am really disappointed. Hard to blend, I don’t like the finish and the colour matching isn’t great. I read so many positive reviews and don’t understand the fuss. And it’s fairly pricey!

What hyped products did you not like?

YSL touche éclat is like watered down chalk and did bugger all for me.

Stila foundations and concealers.

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream feels like a luxury to have and is heavily scented (unless it's changed in recent years) but it's basically Vaseline.

Most of the Urban Decay Naked palettes. If you blend more than any 1 or 2 shadows it just turns into a samey samey sludge colour.

Laura Mercier oil free tinted moisturiser. Like rubbing lard into my face.

Charlotte Tilbury magic cream, greasy and made my skin break out.

Rcma setting powder. It’s basically talcum powder and make my make up separate. I threw it in the bin cos the lid broke and the stuff was getting every where.

L'Oreal Paradise mascara. Bought it on Sali Hughes glowing recommendation but it got massively clumpy and unusable after just a few weeks!

The Ordinary foundations. I tried both types - good colour match but couldn't get them to blend, changed primer, moisturiser etc. At least they were cheap.
Tubing mascaras - several brands. They don't smudge, I will give you that, but I found that they flaked off throughout the day.
I love IT Cosmetics CC cream though.

Pot noodles. Bought one once when they were being heavily advertised and it was, simply, yuck!
Never tried putting it on my face though.

Estée Lauder double wear, it makes my skin dry, orange and cakey no matter how I apply it, same with DW light.

L’Oréal paradise mascara, I found it clunky and it smudged before midday, I was actually pleased that it dried out so quickly so that I could get rid!

Liz Earle cleanse and polish. Made my skin so sore and red. Horrible stuff.

YSL touche eclat - the only product that has ever given me a reaction (I got dry skin).
Weirdly the same happened to my best friend. Plus it didn’t help/look good anyway.

• Chanel lipstick. Waste of money.
• most expensive mascaras.

Ordinary skin care.. utter rubbished

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish most over rated skin cleanser ever.

Most of the clothing hyped by mumsnet threads. Ive come to the conclusion that my body shape must be unusual as 99% does absolutely nothing for me.

Also Nars Sheer Glow (drying), Hourglass ambient light (shiny face), Benefit (everything).

Elasticiser I tried it years ago and it did nothing for my frizzy dry hair. People were raving about it on here so decided to try it again. I still hate it.

Footer once again rave reviews on here, it got rid of my soft skin and left the hard behind.

LUSH henna inferior henna in a block it's horrible.

Babyliss big hair, heard about it on here and used it for a few weeks but it made my hair look awful. Am now back to straighteners.

The Ordinary foundations didn't work for me at all. However I absolutely love their skin care especially the retinol in squalene.

The Ordinary- so well named, and extremely weird management tactics
Superdrug Radiant hot cloth cleanser- smells like loo cleaner, is harsh on the skin
Benefit They're Real and Lancome Hypnose
EL Doublewear- have never worn it, but can spot the Barbara Cartland orange chalky faces a mile off.
Bare Minerals foundation- talking of Barbara Cartland.
Simple skincare- it's not. It's really not.

Clothing fads- the more time I spend on S&B the more I believe that 80% of threads naming relatively obscure but suddenly "life changing" brands are planted by the companies...these MN fads seem to have a fairly short lifespan tbf, I have become more sassy and just scroll past most of the "OMG I've found the holy grail of sandals

Liz Earle cleanser for me too.

I've been lucky enough to have great skin my whole life, barely a spot as a teenager. I started using Liz Earle and it turned my cheeks into red lava pits - I had acne-like welts/lumps all over.

The worst part was I didn't realise it was the product causing the issues as it built gradually. Finally stopped using the stuff (after a year!!!) and started using Lush Ultrabland and my skin went back to normal really quickly (which is when I realised it was the damn cleanse and polish).

Bookmeonthesudexpress your rant about Birkenstocks is sooo true (and very funny).

I did try them too. With my size 41s and a big toe that's a whole 2 cm longer than my others, and am deathly white and one toenail is all horny because a sofa fell on it.

Other people dream of straight hair or to be a size 8. I dream of small and perfectly proportioned feet.

Babyliss Curl Secret. What a pile of shite that was. Feel terrible that my DH spent all that money on something that doesn't work.
Even tried it on my Mum in case it was just my hair that wouldn't hold a curl, didn't work on her either.

I get it out every few months thinking I was doing it wrong and try again, no - still doesn't work.

Vichy Mineral 89. Seriously cannot see/feel any difference (except to my pocket) to how my skin feels/looks or absorbs other products.

Most of the cult fashion stuff beloved of MN! I’m a tall hourglass and most of the hyped stuff looks dreadful on me. I look like a bag lady in Hush.

The ‘serious’ skincare stuff with retinol and other weird acids that are supposed to make you look 5 years younger. I always break out! My skin just doesn’t seem to like being fussed with.

Agree about touche eclat - does absolutely nothing for me. I get that it's a highlighter rather than a heavy-duty concealer, but even so, I find that I barely even notice it's there.

Agree with touche eclat. And Liz Earle cleanser.
Pixi glow tonic did nothing for me either!
I love Birkenstocks though

Boots Curl Creme, it's like putting liquid soap in my hair, yuck
Blanx toothpaste, no different than Colgate
Trilogy rosehip oil made my face bright red

Agree with touche eclat, it gave me red and sore eyes, i took it back and got a refund
