Hyped products you hated?!

Just that really. I bought the IT cosmetics cc cream and am really disappointed. Hard to blend, I don’t like the finish and the colour matching isn’t great. I read so many positive reviews and don’t understand the fuss. And it’s fairly pricey!

What hyped products did you not like?

Alterna Caviar 'Anti-Ageing' Replenishing Moisture Shampoo. Left my hair feeling drier, frizzy, more brittle and even thinner than usual. Ended up using it as a very expensive handwash.

Hylamide glow - smelled so bad I couldn’t even put it on my face.

@oohyoudevilyou, wasn't it Adrian Mole that cleaned the bath with his mother's BufPuf? Grin

I love LE. Cleanse and Polish and the tinted moisturiser .
I also love the Superdrug hot cloth cleanser.
Repeat buy Soap & Glory body lotions and shower gels.

I must be in the minority.

The best eyeshadows I have found are usually cheaper brands. I like a lot of pigment and staying power

Superdrug hot cloth cleanser- broke me out so badly! Had to use up as a body polish as I bought 4 tubes 😂😂 All elemis face masks I've tried have been naff too

I want to like IT Cosmetics so much but the paler colours are so yellow-toned and give me bad Plastic Face. The brushes are gorgeous, though.

Leighton Denny nail varnish made my nails peel.

And I wish Elasticiser would give me the same results as everyone raving about it, but it's kind of meh, and my hair's so greasy the next day. (Much better is the Louise Galvin Intensive Masque which often winds up in my local TK Maxx for about a quarter of the price.)

There's a tell-tale QVC thread running through these three examples. Hmm.

Clinique cleansing bar and anything by Olay make my skin red and inflamed . Not a good look.

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish. Actually Liz Earle anything apart from Eyebright which is a staple. LE used to be my Go To until Avon got involved and all the formulations changed.

Estee Lauder Double Wear. I got the Double Wear Light. I look like a ghost.

And the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair - did nothing.

Touche Éclat

Yet I love Benefit and Clinique, both of which have been slated on here. Oh, and I took the Garnier Micellar Water on holiday, and liked that too and would repurchase. Just goes to show everyone's different.

I fell for the Kiehl's avocado eye cream too biffyboom. Utter rubbish.

It would be great if brands made it easier to get decent samples of things so you can try before you buy. Paula's Choice are pretty good at this as you can buy small sizes of things which still gives you enough product to try it more than once to see if it suits you.

Estee lauder double wear foundation. I just don't get the hype with this.

Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. Horrible useless stuff, and the only eye treatment to ever make my eyes sting and stream water. And I've tried many eye creams and treatments.

Also Double Wear foundation. And all make-up from Clinique.

Touché Eclat, the most overrated product ever!

All eyebrow products, just use mascara, and that’s from someone who has worn Benefit Gimme Brow for months but had to use my mascara when it ran out. A quick sweep of mascara has exactly the same result!

Creme de la mer serum was a load of shite, ridiculous price too.
Dyson hairdryer - found parleux better
I like pixi glow though, works with my skin.
The ordinary - don’t get it, I get all itchy with the retinol & squaline
Boots curl cream is like something from the 80’s and a sticky mess.

cloudtree My mother, now in her late eighties, always says they put the best stuff into samples. She said it was to suck us into paying for a full bottle of whatever, (which was sure to be inferior to the sample). We used to laugh at her and tell her she was nuts - it all came out of the same tub. Maybe she was right and we were nuts!

Touche Eclat, ooh hello first and only episode of dermatitis
Agree with all the CT Pillow Talk dislikers. Even the sales assistant agreed.
Chanel Les Beige I think the CC cream. Oxidised like nothing else I’ve used. Even my 10 yo looked in horror at me when I wore it.
Laura Mercier loose powder. It’s fine, mostly talc, nothing like the hype. And the packaging is shitty cheap breakable plastic.

Soap and glory footfile. Utterly useless. I agree.

I'm now trying to think if anything I bought because someone recommend it on MN was any good Grin

itsautumn I use such a small amount, the tube says 1-2 pumps, that’s way too much. I use half a pump at most and put in on nose, cheeks and chin, blend it in and then put a little bit more on where I need it with my finger.

Bare Minerals. Bloody expensive dust, as far as I'm concerned. It made my skin horrendous; zitty, annoyed and chalky. Every time I look for dry skin foundation recommendations it comes on the list.

Any Benefit. It is worse than the cheapo makeup that we used to buy from the chemist in the 90s.

Thanks wouldhave, I’ll experiment with application. It’s just a bit too thick for me I think.

The Kiehl’s midnight oil was on my list of things to try but maybe not now!

I’m a big fan of Benefit, so many of their colours and finishes really suit my skin tone. But I agree that the Porefessionals range is rubbish (what’s with that weird spongy applicator thingy?) and Boing concealer is crap...made my dark circles look cakey and flaky, yuk!!!

I love this thread. Am trying to rehaul my make up bag and everything I'd thought of has been slated on here. Back to the drawing board Smile

Wasn't it so much easier when we had fewer brands? I swear we look no better for all these miracle products!
