Hyped products you hated?!

Just that really. I bought the IT cosmetics cc cream and am really disappointed. Hard to blend, I don’t like the finish and the colour matching isn’t great. I read so many positive reviews and don’t understand the fuss. And it’s fairly pricey!

What hyped products did you not like?

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish - ouch
Benefit They’re Real mascara - globby mess
Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser - grey cast
Babyliss Big Hair - tangled mess
Dyson Hair Dryer - limp mess
Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lipstick and liner - death warmed up and drying
Charlotte Tilbury blush - no pigment
Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream - sticky Vaseline
Benefit Dandelion - does not show up and I’m fair
Nars Orgasm blush - glittery
A lot of the Beauty Pie products. Bought a load, only kept a couple. Rest binned or given away.
Colour Wow - powder to cover root. Messy.

So much money wasted. The above is the tip of the iceberg.

Benefit They're Real - made no difference to my lashes

Garnier Micella Water - break out galore

Estée Lauder Double Wear - I look like I've been dug up

@BookMeOnTheSudExpress you're right about birkrnstocks. I would never risk a tatty polish with them!!

Clarins Double Serum. I was waiting for the miracle.....never came. I’ve NEVER spent that much on a single skin care product so, lesson learned.

EL Double Wear LIGHT. Like glue. Smelt like glue as well.

Bobbi Brown makeup brushes. Moult, no matter what you do with them. Mine were a gift so, I felt bad as I binned them and now use Real Techniques.

Emma Hardie Moringa cleanser. I have literally never had a reaction to anything - except for this. My skin came out in tiny bumps and got super red. Awful.

Oh yes, tangle teezers, dreadful things, the bristles only skim the surface and seem to create mats of hair in the underneath hair.

I'm another one who had huge problems with Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish: Completely wrecked my skin to the degree that I ended up having to use hydrocortisone and took almost 3 months before it had settled sufficiently to use foundation again. It was possibly the abrasion of the cloth rather than the product that was the issue, but it really is a pretty fierce cleansing system!

oohyoudevilyou · 16/09/2018 10:22

Just to add, I should've known better: Back when I was a teen, there was a much-hyped product called BufPuf which was like a pan scourer for skin. That also wrecked my skin for a few weeks!

Garnier Micellar Water- took my skin months to recover from using that.

Tangle Teezer- hate them so much. They don’t go through hair! Wet Brush is a million times better.

Rimmel Mascaras- they don’t dry on me and smudge everywhere.

Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette- love the colours but I look like I’ve got myxomatosis the next day. My eyes react so badly to it.

I LOVE It Cosmetics CC Cream though.

Nars creamy concealer - sooo drying I thought I’d bought a duff one and took it back for another. I found most Nars products not so great
Double wear - embalming fluid look.
8 hour cream - smelly Vaseline
Cream de la mer - Vaseline and baby oil
Naked palettes - no pigment and lots of glitter

Would have- how do you apply the cc cream? I used fingers and I struggled to blend it. Maybe I need to use a beauty blender or brush?

Yes to Beauty balm. Don’t understand that product at all and it smells horrible.

Benefit they're real mascara - rubbish. It looks good on my friend but her lashes are already long and beautiful.

Bayliss Big Hair - completely waste of money.

I love my urban decay smokey eyeshadow palette though. The metallic shadows are soft and highly pigmented. The non metallic shadows are admittedly nothing special.

itsautumn I got the brush with the CC cream from QVC, thinks it’s called Heavenly Skin or something.
I don’t put the cream straight onto the brush though, uses too much. I put the cream on my face first and then blend it with the brush.

IT cosmetics CC cream. I know lots who love it but it flared up my sensitive eczema prone skin. That's what I get for not reading the ingredients.

Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue however is my go to.

"Footer once again rave reviews on here, it got rid of my soft skin and left the hard behind. "

Me too. I think it's not really effective for people with proper hard skin.

"Uggs - for someone as comfort driven as I am, I just never got it. I love sheepskin slippers but don't understand how they work as a winter boots."

They're really warm. If your feet are warm when you put them on they actually get warmer as you walk.

Amazing how many people don’t rate some of the better selling products. A lot of these posts, mine included, mention the same products.

Tangle teasers are not meant to go through your whole head of hair. That's the whole point of them. They go through layer by layer, so that it doesn't hurt and rip half your hair out.

Anything from Charlotte Tillbury. After reading lots of threads gushing about it on here, I spent around £150 on what is basically Rimmel in very fancy packaging. The mascara is truly horrendous beyond words and I've returned it twice as faulty as I cannot believe it is meant to be so oily and gloopy. I think she's got people working these boards frankly, as I can't see anyone would purchase it twice. I am very very annoyed I got sucked into buying it ............

I had a weird Charlotte Tilbury experience...I got a sample sachet of the Magic foundation, and thought it was amazing. So, as you do, I forked out for the full bottle. Totally and utterly different. I ebayed it.

Simple stuff has always been very harsh- I'm old enough to remember when it (and Clinique too) were marketed mainly at people with "problem" ie spotty and oily) skin rather than sensitive. The fact that both companies have always used the not-perfumed thing as their USPs doesn't hide that their other ingredients can be very harsh.

I love Liz Earle- but as it contains rosemary oil it's not going to be for sensitive skins.

I think a lot of samples are like that. I had an amazing perfume from a beauty advent calendar. The scent stayed all day. I bought a full sized bottle and it disappears within half an hour unless Ive completely drenched myself in it.
