For the unconventional, alternative, rockers, punks, goths amongst us?

Just got my package from Psylo Very pleased with this top (though I'm wearing it with a silk vest underneath not bare midriff!).

A bit torn - ordered two things, but on the principle I'd keep one at most as quite pricey. this dress is really lovely (actually looks much better than in the picture) but I'd need the size up. Definitely keeping the jumper, but do I send the dress back for refund or exchange.... ? Grin

LivingDeadGirlUK · 19/09/2018 19:27

that dress is lovely @sadik! I would exchange if you can afford it :)

LivingDeadGirlUK · 19/09/2018 19:30

so my package from everything5pounds arrived and its ok but as expected not amazing quality, good enough for a between sizes revamp though.

The oversized jumper dress is massive, I am not sure what to do with it. even with a belt its huge. I might see if my mil who can sew has any ideas.

Sadik · 20/09/2018 22:21

I think the dress has to go back for refund - got the skirt from Tattopani and that's excellent. Quality not the same as the Psylo top - but then it's an awful lot cheaper! Unexpectedly it actually goes really well with the top. I'm going to send the dress back & get a plain stretch jersey skirt + a plain dark top from H&M to mix and match with the two & between them I reckon that's a good new winter wardrobe sorted.

Teen dd's comment on the Psylo top: "it looks exactly like the sort of thing an elven ranger would wear while striding through the forest wielding a broadsword".

"That's a good thing. Not a bad thing."

Me! H&R London have some lovely dresses, I own three, and a jacket.
I'm 30 and have been into Goth style since I was 14 because of my friends. They've all stopped being Goths, I haven't.
I buy stuff from charity shops (I get most of my skirts that way) TU, Peacocks (they had some lovely stuff last year) Primark (Harry Potter and Pusheen*) and everything else is online, so the proper Goth stuff, band t-shirts, more Harry Potter stuff, more nice skirts second hand from eBay, and combat boots and stripy socks from Amazon. I own one t-shirt from TeeTurtle and I got a t-shirt with the word 'holosexual' on it in big holographic letters, courtesy of Simply Nailogical. Grin
*I'm aware Pusheen isn't really a Goth thing, but I adore her and rock my Pusheen t-shirts with pride! Smile

The world of make up has vastly upped their game, I remember not being able to find a proper purple lipstick and having to put up with crappy quality black. Now you can find veritable rainbows of lipstick, eyeliner, eyeshadow and everything else. I love it. Current favourite lipsticks are Mean Green Machine from MAC, Heroine from Urban Decay and Punked from Smashbox, if you'd have told me I'd be wearing and loving grey lipstick 15 years ago I'd probably have wondered what you'd been smoking. Grin

Interesting thread! I have never described myself as goth but have always had a grungy, rock inspired aesthetic (probably inspired by my penchant for bedding musicians in my youth!) I like a lot of the military looks that appear every few years too, and rarely wear anything that isn’t black or grey.

Im finding now I’m in my thirties I don’t really want the more “obvious” stuff you see on EMP and similar places, it just feels a little cheap and “costume” now. Equally I would rather not be wearing standard high street. I get by with a mix of carefully chosen high street and designer, i regularly stalk TKMaxx for The Kooples and Zadig and Voltaire (even McQueen, Helmut Lang and Rick Owens on the odd occasion) - too spendy to kit out a wardrobe at full price but there are bargains to be had. Otherwise I find myself waiting for grunge or military to be back “in” and jump on the good stuff when it pops up in mainstream shops. River Island and H&M both roll it out regularly but quality is dire for the most part.

I’m feeling chuffed today having picked up a Zadig wool skull jumper in TKm for £70 :) I’m don’t have a voracious appetite for clothes so am willing to bide my time for the right thing.

Now occasionwear... that one gets tricky! How does everyone approach things like weddings or work Christmas do’s without sacrificing their own style? I invariably panic shop and end up with something I don’t really like.

I've just bought this Tattopani dress to wear for work with olive green opaque tights and these boots. It's the start of my new work wardrobe.

Gorgeous dress Hippychickmama. Are they Fly London boots? I've got a pair of Fly boots that have been worn and worn over the last 4 winters, they do a great job of making an outfit look just a bit more interesting.

HippyChickMama · 22/09/2018 13:04

They're not Fly London, though I covet Fly London Mes 2 and Fly London Salv boots, they're Dr Marten Authentic Wedge. I love nice boots.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 22/09/2018 14:01

@RenardeRenarde I wore a purple tarten dress to the works christmas do and my boss when trying to find a compliment said 'very Scotish' :p

LaBrujaPiruja · 22/09/2018 15:06

I'm not a goth although some of my friends were back then, but I have always been alt / indie in terms of what I wear. Never buy trends, hate disposable fashion and most things in the high street. 40+ now but still getting stopped in the middle of the street quite regularly, people wanting to know where this dress is from or wanting to take a picture (this is a big NO in these social media times but did not mind back in the 90s).

I find smart office / corporate wear really difficult and survive on my collection of 'edgy' jackets, amassed in the last 20 years. Most of them are Marithé et François Girbaud, Cop Copine, High and Hoss Intropia. I also have a couple of La Condesa military jackets.

I love High by Claire Campbell, particularly their jackets and dresses, but they are too expensive, so only buy in the sale or eBay / outlet.

I love some Fly shoes (not the really chunky ones) and also Chie Mihara (Spain-bought, much much cheaper) and Tracey Neuls (although they have drastically increased prices, I think they have doubled the prices in the last two or three seasons... no more TNs for me, thank God I bought a second pair of Penny, in a different colour, in last year's summer sale).

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 22/09/2018 15:32

Bought some jeans in primark, super high waist skinnies in black and they are AMAZING. soft, comfortable, hold everything in and look good as well. £9 so cheap so easier to replace when they give out. i'm very hourglass shaped, huge difference between waist and hips and these fit bang on. the black is proper black as well, not washed out. they do them in black grey and dark blue and i'll be going back for some more!

Skyejuly · 22/09/2018 15:45

Im wearing the Primark skinnies today. Love them !

LivingDeadGirlUK · 22/09/2018 15:51

how do they wash? I hate it when they go from black to grey in one wash.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 22/09/2018 16:09

mine have washed fine. i should say though, i only wash on 30 degrees, i honestly don't find my clothes are any less clean or fresh for it and colder washes do help preserve colour ive found. The only things i wash hotter are bedding and towels!

JohnMcCainsDeathStare · 22/09/2018 18:50

I do like the look of some of the All Saints stuff but I'm taking note of the various labels - I don't own that many jackets and want something a bit more formal than just jumpers and cardigans.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 22/09/2018 19:14

Love this time of year - back in my leather jacket and DMs today. Smile

I really like the Psylo top, Sadik - I would definitely have to wear something underneath as my midriff is not for baring!

Been browsing Etsy for some items. Found a couple of nice shops last year but they are a bit more expensive. My aim is to get a few quality items this season.

PixieMiss · 22/09/2018 19:36

Can anyone recommend a website or store that does a UK size 4?

I really struggle and find a load of my clothes nowadays are coming from Primark or ASOS.

Verbena87 · 22/09/2018 21:21

Allsaints start at a U.K. 2. The stuff is pricey but they have quite a big ‘outlet’ section on the website and the clothes do last well (just replacing my winter coat from there which has had pretty much daily wear for 6 years, and have a gorgeous silk dress that’s nearly 10 years old and still good).

Verbena87 · 22/09/2018 21:22

6 winters, not 6 whole years!!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 23/09/2018 08:32

I ventured into Peacocks and got myself a pair of their mid waist jeggings in black, which look very nice for £12.60! I've never bought anything in there before but there are surprisingly few Primarks in Cumbria. Decent size too. I'm going to check out some of the suggestions on this thread. I also like a dig through TK Maxx.

Belletower · 23/09/2018 11:00

My most recent purchase! Found this lovely dress while in Zara and teamed it with my fav new boots!

Hippy I love the colour of those boots! I am trying to find a nice turquoise coat this year, as the colour goes well with my bright red hair.

Omg I love that nomad red velvet coat.

Off for a morning of serious Internet hunting.

Ginkypig · 23/09/2018 12:07

I forgot about this thread! Ooh I can't wait to go back and have a proper read.

It sound hideous but I just got a black leather look corset top in h&m. For £5!

I thought it'd be awful on my size 14/16 body and 34f boobs but the back is elastic and it cover the boobs! Plus and I don't know how but it's longer than it seems so it goes to your waistband so my stomach doesn't hang under it blush
The idea is to wear a top underneath with some nice trousers and boots.

If I can be brave enough Blush
