For the unconventional, alternative, rockers, punks, goths amongst us?

I buy a lot on EMP online but the sizes do vary. I find the EMP own brand stuff to be in line with high street sizes, however the other brands tend to come up a bit small. Their returns policy is very good though.

Elledorado · 14/09/2018 11:38

I know that alternative does not actually equal goth. I'm just asking whether this thread is for goths or former goths IYKWIM. For instance, I love some Toast dresses, some of the shapeless Cos stuff, some Warehouse things in structural/interesting designs, Whistles silk stuff. Boden, Joules et al on the other hand generally does not float my boat. But if this is a let's wear black leather and doc martens and 50s style fit and flare, that's not my scene either.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 14/09/2018 12:20

this thread needs more clothes lol

So I have ordered these

www.emp.co.uk/p/high-waist-jeans/342727.html#start=52

I have a oversized wine coloured fine knit jumper I am going to wear with them but quite fancy some kind of short sleeved jumper I could wear something with longer lace sleeves underneath.

MrsPMT · 14/09/2018 13:10

Definitely.

I find H&M quite good for high street stuff with an alternative slant, New Look used to be good but haven't bought anything there in absolutely ages, total rubbish now.

I'm liking these cargo style skinnies from H&M. And this sweater/cardi, love this one too.
I've been looking for some leopard print boots for ages so am very pleased they are still 'in' and more available this season. Don't wear heels so these look good, leather also.

I took delivery of some pink glittery mary jane dr marten shoes this morning, very pleased with them! wore them today with a space print skirt and a cowboy bebop tee Smile

MrsPMT · 14/09/2018 13:14

Living my style icon is Emmanuelle Alt, love her style Envy

Elledorado · 14/09/2018 13:17

Agree, many of my most interesting clothes are from h&m. I like those links PMT

MrsPMT · 14/09/2018 13:17

And I really want this!! Too pricey though, too many nice things Grin

MrsPMT · 14/09/2018 13:20

I was a goth in teens/twenties Elle but prefer my style nowadays to be alternative influenced but also mainstream stylish.

Belletower · 14/09/2018 13:52

I am so glad I have found my people Grin

I am about to head out for the school run so will catch up properly with you all later!

Elledorado, you sound like me. I’m happy to pick up items from high street brands if it works for me.

I’ve tried Lagenlook but it just drowns me and does nothing for my shape. I have to very selective with Gudrun Sjoden stuff too. I love the colours but the fit is usually far to loose for me.

Forgotten Tribes has some nice alternative pieces but doesn’t work too well for my shape.

I’m a bit stuck in a style rut really...

Elledorado · 14/09/2018 14:15

boldly I find mixing shapes works well ie something unstructured with something fitted. Or knowing what length sleeves and neckline with different shapes works for me. If something is unstructured but has a v or scoop neck and falls at the right places on my legs and arms then it works. I think it's why you need to try Cos type stuff on before you buy. I also love Gorman (an Aus brand) & patterns - although you have to be selective. I hate fussy prints, but love arty and bold patterns.

I really wanted this but it sold out! If anyone else sees anything similar, let me know!

Ooh it’d be a simple sew! Start with this pattern jenniferlaurenhandmade.store/product/the-pippi-pinafore/ and swap the a-line skirt for a circle skirt?

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 15/09/2018 21:27

it's corduroy central here today, bought some rust coloured cord shorts and a burgundy cord a line mini skit. thinkt hey will work really well for autumn for me. Thinking i might clash the skirt with a red cardigan. I have a real hankering to do it now i have the skirt though I don't know if it will work or just look like i got dress int he dark with my eyes closed Grin

LivingDeadGirlUK · 15/09/2018 22:34

loving the cord, I have a burgandy knee length cord skirt I bought around christmas last year and I am glad its getting cool enough to wear now.

Before I had my son i was doing shorts with thick tights and chunky boots but my thighs and bum are sooooo huge now I am going to have to find a different autumn staple.

I have ordered some bits from everything5pounds as I have wanted to try it for a while. A black jumper dress to wear with tights and boots, black cut out shoulder jumper to go with my new jeans, and a black satin shirt for work. All the black things lol.

Skyejuly · 15/09/2018 22:36

Not sure where I fit but I dont follow latest fashion and hate people wearing same things or looking too samey. Mostly love vintage markets/ebay and charity shops. Id say my style is pretty boho but not styled at all!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 15/09/2018 22:49

Oh good! A thread about alt stuff. I run out of ideas for nice black clothes in decent fabrics! I basically just buy black, burgundy and khaki stuff from high street and I'm so bored of it. All my shoes are alternative! I've been doing a bit of sport-goth but finding that dull too. I used to buy my clothes from Quiggins in Liverpool, with occasional forays to Afflecks Palace in Manchester. Now I'm too chunky for the twiglet leg stuff! I would wear some All Saints gear but it's too expensive.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 15/09/2018 23:05

livingdeadgirl i wear shorts and tights all the time, it weirdly makes me look quite slim even though i'm really not. I have definitely found that shorter hemlines make me look smaller all over though i don't know why it does

LivingDeadGirlUK · 16/09/2018 06:31

@bobbinthreadbare123 sounds very much like me! I usee to pull it all together with accesories but my son pulls at everything so I have cut down. I live in manchester but not bern to Afflecks for 3 years, might be time to revisit!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 16/09/2018 06:36

I have never looked at All Saints before but there are some lovely things there, bit pricey though! Def a new one to search ebay for.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 16/09/2018 06:38

@OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack can I see a pic of your cord shorts?

PhilomenaButterfly · 16/09/2018 07:19

vegan DMs???

nancybelle · 16/09/2018 09:03

I like banned clothing for knitwear. The cardigans are a bit quirky with embroidered tattoo prints on them. Always get comments when I wear things from there. I tend to buy from eBay.
