Jeans to stay skinny or move on?

Shenanagins · 20/08/2018 22:24

I am needing new jeans and like most people have lived in skinny jeans for years.
What I love about them is that I can dress them up with a heel, wear with flats, tuck into wellies and they still look ok.
However, things are changing and I’m not sure whether to move on and if so what to especially as I need jeans to be so versatile.
The other thing is that I have short legs so skinnies were great as I could always roll them up.
Does anyone have any suggestions!

Ooooo following!!!!!

HollyBollyBooBoo · 20/08/2018 22:25

What do you mean things are changing? The trend for jeans?

Elementally · 20/08/2018 22:28

Things have changed. Skinnies are no longer the fashion choice. Got to be a bit looser and high waisted now I reckon. You can still roll them up. Roll above the boot. Also lots are cropped so ideal for shorter people.

Shenanagins · 20/08/2018 22:29

Trends are beginning to shift and I don’t want to end up with the equivalent of the bootcut look!

I feel the same about skinnies. I think it is time to move on. But where...?

Can someone post some pics of how to wear other kinds of jeans (e.g. The high waisted?)

Following this thread with interest!

welshmist · 20/08/2018 22:36

Nooooo... I am so short skinnies are the only ones I feel look good in. I look slimmer in them. Any other style I have to dig out the sewing machine unless there is a short length.

PickAChew · 20/08/2018 22:36

Cropped jeans are crap for those of us with short legs!

I'm sticking with skinnies until I can't buy them any more. I'll wear a looser fit when I do wear crops, ie when it's hot, but I can't be doing with flappy legs, otherwise.

And only skinnies work with knee length boots.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 20/08/2018 22:40

I could’ve written this post until this weekend

Hail the solution: Uniqlo Cigarette High Waist Jeans

www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-high-rise-cigarette-jeans-404607.html

They don’t cling or grip like skinnies but are still cut neatly to look chic

Rosie1976mini · 20/08/2018 22:41

Rocha John Rocha ‘Brooke’ jeans are ace - discovered them this year - straight leg/ high waisted - plenty of stretch & bum lift!

Shenanagins · 20/08/2018 22:44

Liking the cigarette jean, may need to order up a pair!

Also following this. What do you wear with wellies or Dubarry boots then if skinnies old fashioned?
I also need dated in skinnies and wear ‘mom’ jeans in the spring rolled up with ankle showing and flip flops or trainers. But what do you wear in winter when too cold and need proper socks and boots?
Going to try the Mom jeans rolled up with DM’s but all looks a bit lumpy and shapeless as my age. Especially with a chunky knit on top... any style ideas?

Lovingtheisland · 20/08/2018 22:55

Also following this. I prefer ‘classier, classic’ looks as opposed to bang on trend and just find skinny’s with a nice blouse or blazer are great as you can dress them up or down with heels and nice top etc for an evening out. They make people look slim etc. Also, everyone says skinny jeans are out, fair enough, but a lot of the jeans sold in stores are still skinny jeans?!

I dunno, I too want to look streamlined in winter with my wellies or my Chelsea boots etc and these baggier styles that are in now (especially with all the awful rips everywhere) just don’t really ‘go’?

teta · 20/08/2018 23:14

I’m small at 5 ft 3 and wear cropped wide denims. Cropped slim jeans make me look short but the wide ones don’t and are strangely flattering. I do normally have to get them shortened and they do have to be at the right length. This varies according to the shoes I’m wearing.

MrsRubyMonday · 20/08/2018 23:26

God those cigarette jeans scream frumpy to me. Maybe it's the colour, too light wash. I am and will always be a devoted skinny jean fan, I have them in many (mostly dark!) colours, I'm short, they look good, and I'm not having the media tell me otherwise lol. If I had to choose other than skinny, I would go for a distressed straight leg slightly cropped above ankle thing I think. Although too fat for that right now, I always pictured myself in them. Never doing bootcut or flares though, my childhood wouldn't recover.

PickAChew · 20/08/2018 23:26

Slim or straight fit are wide on me. I have really skinny ankles.

Dilligaf81 · 21/08/2018 01:16

*MrsRubyMonday*scream frumoy to me to. I dont think skinnies are dying i just think theres more choice about. Skinnies are a classic like the shirt and blazer combo.
I'm too fat of arse and thigh to carry off mom jeans or looser styles. If its clinging at my thigh without clinging to my calf as well it makes me look huge.

Delatron · 21/08/2018 02:26

Gah, what do we wear tucked in to an ankle boot in the winter?

evilharpy · 21/08/2018 11:11

The shops are still full of skinnies.

I found a pair of bootcut jeans in the wardrobe the other day - god knows how long they'd been there. Tried them on and was horrified at how frumpy they looked on me - they've now gone to the charity shop.

I'm just not the right shape for anything other than skinny jeans really, and nothing else seems to look right with ankle boots, so will be buying them until the shops no longer sell them.

FabulousTomatoes · 21/08/2018 12:04

I have just ordered three new pairs of skinnies for this a/w so I really hope they don’t go out of fashion! I have two pairs of straight - boyfriend jeans which are perfect on cooler summer days with trainers, flats, birkenstocks or heels, but I don’t really wear them the rest of the year as they don’t go with socks!

I have a pair of wide leg 7forallMankind beauties which went out about ten years ago and I’m hoping will come back in soon.

kirkandpetal · 21/08/2018 12:37

I cant bear the thought of having to find a whole new jean style......the shops are still full of skinny jeans, and so I shall continue to wear them too.

There is just no other jean that works with wellies. FACT.

AuntieStella · 21/08/2018 12:47

I've stockpiled skinnies, because I Iove the shape and hated it when it vanished during the bootcut years.

Also, they're really the only choice if you have fabulous boots and want them to be seen. So p, together with jegginss, I don't think they will disappear quite as comprehensively as they did

That said, I do flirt with other shapes, and have recently got some narrow tapered ones from Topshop. I can't remember what they called them - either mom or girlfriend I think.

But I won't be in for any flares (not even bootcut) nor wide silhouettes (the body is meant to taper, and it's far too easy to look solid/chunky all the way down once you add width in anything other than a very sheer fabric.

hammeringinmyhead · 21/08/2018 14:00

I don't really get the skinnies-are-out mentality because to me they're just a fitted leg covering to go inbetween a jumper/cardi or shirt and boots, like denim leggings. I wouldn't even really class them as a "shape".

I wear a lot of skinnies, lace-up ankle boot, slouchy top and leather biker jacket combinations and the skinnies are the fitted bit to balance the outfit. I don't think adding baggy high waist mom jeans or boyfriends to a loose top half and chunky shoes would do me any favours!

ChimesOnSundayMorn · 21/08/2018 14:16

I haven't worn skinnies regularly for ages; instead I wear a mixture of straight legs, Mom jeans, chinos, dresses and skirts. Occasionally I wear my skinnies if the rest of the outfit works better but they don't feel right most of the time (and I've always disliked tucking into boots).

However if they suit your shape and style then they still look good and you shouldn't feel obligated to wear another style.

BillywigSting · 21/08/2018 14:23

I'm not convinced that skinnies are ever going to really go out of fashion, they've been around in one way shape or form for the last 70 years (since the rockers of the 50s). They're definitely firmly in the 'classic' category I think

CherryMaraschino · 21/08/2018 14:31

Argh! I really struggle with non-skinny jeans. I'm short and a size 4 - 6, so everything else just drowns me. Also – what else to wear with my new DMs?
