I posted on chat a few days ago about this but thought this might be am even better place.

I am frumpy and I hate it.

I am 45, 3 stone overweight and a SAHM who feels has lost her mojo since motherhood descended 12 years ago.

I want to change so I am hoping to start a thread for any like minded fellow frumps.

I am thinking clothes, hair, make up, diet and style tips in one place to help release our inner goddess.

Anyone care to join?

Room for one more?
45 menopausal, 3stone overweight and I just don't know who I am anymore.
I've started eating healthy and am doing my 10k steps a day and going gym but everything else is a mess!!

ZenNudist · 03/08/2018 19:40

Hopping on for tips

JontyDoggle37 · 03/08/2018 20:28

Dull thank you for starting this thread. I only wore shorts and a tee today, so maybe not a super stylish ‘outfit’, but because I put a necklace and a bracelet on, and did my hair and makeup too, I felt the best I’ve felt about myself in ages. I felt ‘polished’ and confident. Sitting here working out what to wear tomorrow!

happypoobum · 03/08/2018 20:41

I am off on holiday to Italy on Sunday so there will be plenty of wine glugging and pizza scoffing, but I will be getting lots of steps in, and getting plenty of sleep.

Just painted toenails and put some Sally Hansen nail strengthener stuff on fingernails. Will paint them with clear varnish tomorrow so I don't have to worry about chipping when away.

Need to fake tan tonight and tomorrow with Dove Summer Glow which I find builds up nicely and gives me a nice tan.

My holiday wardrobe is very simple and basic and I wouldn't attempt to compete with stylish Tuscan women Grin

Diet will start in earnest when I get back.

MM18 · 03/08/2018 23:20

Thank you for the welcome and reassurance.

I’ve really not had a great day today, but I am going to bed clean, and earlier than yesterday, so let’s be grateful for incremental improvements!

Chimichangaz · 04/08/2018 09:44

I am very late to this party but would love to join in! I'm 52 and feeling invisible. Been single since my divorce 6 years ago, terrified to jump back into the dating game, and seriously in need of some style. I went through a phase about 5 years ago where I was very style conscious, and looked after myself with diet and exercise and felt fantastic. Since then, a demanding career change (which I love) seems to have taken over my life. However, I have joined a gym and am determined to get back on it. Also recently did the first cycle of the Body Coach but there was just too much food prepping and cooking involved - so I've adapted it slightly and am loosely following a lower carb/low calorie diet plus regular exercise. Only about 10lb to lose so doable. Incidentally my nails have been shockingly fragile since having shellac a few years ago but recently really perked up which I put down to the higher fat/lower carb diet of the Body Coach.

One thing that is making me look older at the moment is my sagging jawline - any advice for this from anyone? I was watching Our Shirley Valentine summer this week, and all of those ladies look absolutely fab!

Justinonmybroomstick · 04/08/2018 09:49

Thank you for the tip. That diet sounds good

It’s a Michael Mosley one and if you do an advanced search on the poster called BigChocolateFrenzy it should link you to the latest of the threads.

Justinonmybroomstick · 04/08/2018 09:54

For the posters who’re struggling with asthma type symptoms can I pls suggest you get your vitamin D levels checked.

petrolpump28 · 04/08/2018 09:58

I detest going to the hairdressers. Don't know whether to change, try to dye it myself or what

DULLDull · 04/08/2018 10:43

Welcome everyone.

I had a bit of a downer last night. I was going out for dinner to a lovely French restaurant with DH. I decided to try attempt some style rather than my usual thrown together look. I tried on loads of outfits and just ended up in a frumpy dress as its all that fitted. My waist is huge. I am now a barrel shape. I have always been apple shaped but since the weight gain and peri menopause I am much bigger. Do you think I'll ever get a waist back? It wasn't helped by seeing young women everywhere with tiny waists. Hmm

On a brighter note, I have repainted my nails. I've opted for two coats of revlon top and base coat to give a clear varnish. I'll report back on how long it lasts.

Yes Dull you will regain your waist. Mine is gradually reappearing on the 16/8 diet. I still have a lot more to lose though. I had a indulgent curry and wine last night. So back to a healthy griddled asparagus salad with advocado and a poached egg for lunch. My hair is freshly highlighted, it’s warm and sunny and I’m feeling good.

BagelGoesWalking · 04/08/2018 11:47

I've just got the Michael Mosley to read and ordered the other one from the library. The 2nd was recommended by a friend who's very much into nutrition and looks fantastic!

Dull
You will regain your waistline again. I found I noticed when I started losing weight, it seemed to come from the top down. I noticed it in my face first, gradually I could see my waistline appear. Everybody is different, try not to compare.
Somebody gave me a great tip, to put outfits you love and know you feel good in together on a hanger, so you can grab and put on. I find of I haven't planned what I'm wearing I get frustrated and annoyed. It can spill over into the enjoyment of your night.
I need to do a major declutter and let go of stuff I never wear or doesn't fit.

teta · 04/08/2018 11:56

I have that Michael Mosley book too Bagel. I love the Bone broth soup made by poaching a whole chicken with lots of vegetables, cider vinegar, coconut oil, Tumeric and lots of garlic and ginger. It tastes so good and is brilliant for settling stomachs or if you’re feeling ill.
The second book looks interesting too.

Justinonmybroomstick · 04/08/2018 12:00

Dull, just read your last post and I thought I’d tell you about last night.

I was going to a family wedding and because of where I live it you really do have to make an effort. The weddings are in the evening and they’re full on!!!

Anyway I came back from the Salon having had my hair and make up done and my adult son who’s severely autistic took one look at me and said ‘WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU’. 😂😂😂

And if that wasn’t bad enough my sister in law gave me what she thought was a great compliment and told me I looked just like Camilla Parker Bowles. Not that I think that’s a bad thing but I’m sincerely hoping it’s because she’s 70 and looks 60 and not bevause Im 60 and look 70.

happypoobum · 04/08/2018 12:02

petrol It is so important that you get on with your hairdresser. I would be DISTRAUGHT if mine left the area. I suggest you just haven't found one you click with. They only get one chance with me and if I don't feel it, I move on to the next one. Current hairdresser I have had for 18 years Grin Maybe ask someone whose hair you like where they get it done, explain you are looking to change.

Dull I am also barrel shaped. It's very vexing.

petrolpump28 · 04/08/2018 12:32

Hairdresser situation is compounded by me loaning him my box set of Spirale. Boundaries.

Lunaballoon · 04/08/2018 13:50

Can I join too? I’ve fallen into the habit of wearing clothes as if they’re a uniform, so for work it’s always navy or black trousers and some sort of top depending on the season, the same at weekends but jeans or long shorts.

I haven’t worn dresses or skirts for years but I never seem to find in the shops the ones I see other women wearing and looking fantastic.

Dresses with both horizontal and vertical stripes for example, look great, but I haven’t seen any in the shops. It doesn’t help that in the sales season, the shops seem to be full of old tat!

MissMarplesKnitting · 04/08/2018 14:16

Hair cut n colour today, hurrah!!

LittleMy77 · 04/08/2018 18:45

Had an excellent pedicure and 10 minute massage at the nail salon last night and feel much better for it (and my feet are much less hoof looking now - I tipped extra as a result Grin)

SpeckledyHen · 04/08/2018 20:24

Bagel the MM Clever Guts book has changed my life . I read it and was so inspired as it made total sense . I have lost 34lbs since 22.1.18 without dieting . My BMI has dropped from 33 to 25 , jeans now size 12 instead of 16 and I have a waist back after 20 years .

Hair , skin and energy levels so much better and non-stop compliments from colleagues, family and friends.
Good luck with it !

I need a new denim skirt. My current one used to be my mother's is knee length, A line and more of a lighter blue which is hard to pair things with. Ended up with a multi coloured top with thin straps and a strapless bra. I've got a couple of off the shoulder tips but I can't get comfy in them for a whole day's wear so they've been relegated to nights out.

Any one seen any nice denim skirts?

BagelGoesWalking · 04/08/2018 22:27

SpeckedlyHen Blimey, that ought to be on his publicity material 😬 You must be over the moon!

I will certainly be happy with health benefits, good skin and hair (esp skin). Thank you.

waterandlemonjuice · 04/08/2018 22:47

Hello everyone! I'm on Day 11 of no alcohol and also haven't been well so I have lost at least half a stone in the past week. Starting the 8 week BSD on Monday assuming I'm better.

Today I've eaten very little as I'm ill (effectively doing 800 cals but not in a good way)
Shaved legs
Moisturised all over
Filed nails
Used hand cream

And it's Day 12 with no alcohol, I look better for it for sure

I'm determined to be thinner and to look the best I can by April next year
