I posted on chat a few days ago about this but thought this might be am even better place.

I am frumpy and I hate it.

I am 45, 3 stone overweight and a SAHM who feels has lost her mojo since motherhood descended 12 years ago.

I want to change so I am hoping to start a thread for any like minded fellow frumps.

I am thinking clothes, hair, make up, diet and style tips in one place to help release our inner goddess.

Anyone care to join?

11 or 12, not sure!

Quantumblue · 05/08/2018 00:36

One nice thing I have done recently is bought Kiehl's midnight recovery oil and used it every night for the last couple of weeks. Can't tell if it is making a difference or not, but makes me feel pampered, as it is full of essential oils and I go to bed feeling as if I have done something for myself.

Misty9 · 05/08/2018 08:27

I found a nice denim skirt in the m&s sale recently - it is dark denim with pale blue spots on it and metal button up front. Might still have some?

I will def check out the clever guts book as digestion is a huge issue for me. Went to a wedding reception last night and curled my hair for the first time in about 10 years! It took years off me and made me feel good Smile

BagelGoesWalking · 05/08/2018 13:47

May I add a small skincare tip which has made a huge difference?

Adding a hydrating toner has completely changed my skin for the better. Works for dry & oily - any kind of skin. More hydration means oily skin doesn't produce excess serum to compensate. Multiple layers plump up the skin, make it feel soft and comfortable. Because it's more plumped up, fine lines disappear or are much reduced. You'll get a glow and it means that you won't need nearly as much moisturiser, which is often a problem for oilier skin as it can clog pores. I like two - Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner and Etude House Soon Jung but there are many available. Some like with Hyaluronic Acid (like Vichy 89 or La Roche Posay Hydraphase) but anything with Hyaluronic Acid, panthenol or glycerin is good. No alcohol denat or witch hazel. 7 skins doesn't mean you have to do that many, most do 3-4.

HurricaneHalle · 05/08/2018 15:53

Thanks @Misty9 I will take a look.

Today is Gap 3/4 length jeans (years old), yellow off the shoulder top from Tesco as all my bras are in the laundry and only got my strapless one about to wear coupled with my brown Havianas. The top is doing my head in as every time I move it rides up. So after today it will definitely be an out out top only. It's certainly not conducive to daily life with small people.

No make up today. Partly too lazy and partly too hot and partly means I won't forget to take it off later.

I've also been stalking Instagram 40yrs + influencers and got some ideas however they must have loads of disposable income as I just don't have any much spare cash. Luckily the supermarkets lately seem to have some pure gems.

I thought Per Una was for 40years plus? However it seems to attract 70years plus or is it only me that thinks this?

teta · 05/08/2018 17:39

water you’re on a roll.Thats an amazing amount of weight lost in a short time. I managed 5 days without wine and definitely look so much better. Will be back on the wagon tomorrow.
Quantumblue I love face oils too.Especially Rose essential oil ones.
misty I bet you looked pretty with your curled hair.
I hit the Monsoon sale yesterday and bought a deep blue swimming costume and bikini that are very flattering and help distract the gaze from my stomach.
I’m wearing one of my purchases today. A blue and white gathered maxi from Monsoon beach with a Wrap linen vest top. Its so hot I need something cool and made of natural fibres.

waterandlemonjuice · 05/08/2018 17:56

OMG upside of nasty stomach bug = I've lost 11lb in the past week (I have a lot to lose mind you)

Have made myself a huge wall calendar covering the next 26 weeks

Made soup for lunch for tomorrow and the next day and 'muffins' (no carbs) for breakfasts, some are frozen so cover the next 2 weeks worth.

Feeling motivated! At the end of this am also going to pay for teeth whitening and will buy new clothes. New lipstick arrived and is lovely, bought on the advice of teen DD and was a good buy! It's this

littleredlipstick · 05/08/2018 18:48

Hopping on to the train now!

Last week I had my eyes lasered so need to learn how to do my eye shadow after wearing glasses for so long. Just bought some eye cream for puffy dark circles and will revamp my skin care routine next.

In the process of losing weight (thanks to the half a stone thread and my lurking on the bsd thread) just need to up my exercise to tone up as well.

Nails and a good body moisturiser next on the list I think

mycatplotsdeath · 05/08/2018 18:56

After total excess at a wedding yesterday.
I'm starting with gusto tonight/tomorrow.
I'm having a bath, face and hair mask later.
Painting my nails with clear varnish.
I've also bought some Bondi Sands ?! gradual tan and shall apply that tonight.

Tomorrow I'm on healthy eating and I've booked a gym class straight from work

BettyBooHoo · 05/08/2018 20:02

water can you please cough heavily several times into a envelope then post it to me? I am happy to catch your bug if it will shift 11lbs

waterandlemonjuice · 05/08/2018 20:08

Lol bettyboohoo!

sunshineseaside · 05/08/2018 21:47

Lol @bettyhoohoo Xx

Walkinthecountry · 05/08/2018 22:40

Oh, I need to jump on this too, if I may? About to (re)-start bodyboss and low carb-eating plan. Have just had a restyle and colour that I love, but desperately need to start taking care of myself in general. Love the thought of starting with autumn wardrobe, as that seems do-able, but feel completely lost as to what my style actually is. Off to pinterest now...

DULLDull · 05/08/2018 23:53

Hello all. I have had quite an active weekend. A bike ride yesterday and lots of gardening today. I didn't manage the low carb diet yesterday but better today. In fact I had no appetite all day. I ate Greek yogurt at 10 and then dinner at 5 and that was it. I took DD our for sushi and was going to just change my tshirt and wear the shirts I wore whilst gardening but decided to shower and put a dress on instead. I felt much better. I am looking at anyone stylish now and I've noticed how badly dressed the British public are now. Shock It's like I've never seen it before.

Sounds like a good day Dulldull. I went swimming with kids in the morning in my frumpy-size-too-big swimming costume which I have had since I was pregnant 2 years ago. Unfortunately it's all I have at the moment so just went with it and enjoyed myself regardless. Saw some lovely bright swimming suits though so got some inspiration. Then me and kids just chilled, played in garden. Just wore my massive denim shorts (don't fit!) And a cotton tea shirt. I want to be classic / simply dressed but because everything is mostly second hand or a hand me up from my sister it's usually slightly wrong size! I am a sahm currently so no budget for anything brand new and loathe to spend anything crazy on myself. taking hints from here and looking on ebay!

gingercat02 · 06/08/2018 08:53

I had my hair cut on Friday. I'm just a bout to get my brows and lashes done and I gave bought a few new holiday clothes from Uniclo, so fairly cheap and cheerful. Will reassess the frumpyness when I get back from my hols. Will keep up Wi-Fi depending 🌞🛫

TheHoundsofLove · 06/08/2018 09:06

Everyone sounds to be making steps in the right direction. I feel like I have been too. I did a face pack yesterday, have painted my nails and have worn a couple of my summer dresses over the weekend. I have also been swimming a lot, so at least the swimsuit horror is being balanced by a pretty decent tan! Wink

LiveLifeWithPassion · 06/08/2018 09:15

I’m glad I found this thread. I’ve been feeling a lot like I want to sort out myself out. I’m the same age as op and need to lose weight and take care of my hair and skin.
I think as well as frumpy, I look tired. I should definitely have a few earlier nights.
Can anyone recommend a good face mask?

Cakefairy1978 · 06/08/2018 09:43

Oh hi how did the laser go? How old are you? I want it done for my 40th

Cakefairy1978 · 06/08/2018 09:44

Does anyone have any good Pinterest or instagram pages they can post?

Vaycayheyhey · 06/08/2018 09:57

Still reading but hopping on board to say hi! Only on page 5 but def need this. Def recommend nail nurse as alternative to Dior nails. Also slowly wears off.

Vaycayheyhey · 06/08/2018 10:04

Okay, am 40something, Northern Irish but doing a lot of commuting, serial namechanger as always give too much away but waves at treacle. I used to be very glamorous in teens and twenties, I’m sure treacle would agree that in parts of NI there is a lot of emphasis on women’s appearance and pressure to look good. At one point I opted out of a lot of it as I felt it such a time waste and quite sexist. Got on with career etc. But now I’ve realised I have to put the effort in! The thing is I KNOW all the stuff to do, come from a family of chic glamourpusses, I just don’t prioritise it at all. Plus we’re in a year of saving to move house. But this support train will really help!

littleredlipstick · 06/08/2018 11:17

@Cakefairy1978 laser eye surgery went great I love it and wished I had done it years ago, I'm 44.

Stilllivinghere · 06/08/2018 11:58

Can I join please. I'm very slowly getting back to my pre baby weight (the second one!) and have started 6 months ago and have now had my hair cut, and got a few new summer clothes and have started wearing earrings everyday.

Next in nails-I'm not into nails-I don't own a nail file-any recommendations? I'm looking at Dior nail glow-has anyone used it?

I also need recommendations for a facemask. I need a exfoliating/look much younger/10 hours of sleep type one. My fingers are crossed.

BettyBooHoo · 06/08/2018 12:06

Dull I know just what you mean. DD and I were in IKEA yesterday and I think I saw only one or two stylishly dressed people. It was just a sea of polyester, unpedicured feet in flip flops (grim) and far, far too much exposed flesh. Once you start noticing it, you can't stop!

For the record, I was in smart, dark denim shorts + black linen long sleeved shirt + black leather gladiator sandals (and yes, I'd been pedicured) + large straw tote + classic Ray-Ban Aviators.

I confess I just copied the entire outfit off Pinterest Blush But it got a nod of approval from teen DD, which is no mean feat Grin
