I posted on chat a few days ago about this but thought this might be am even better place.

I am frumpy and I hate it.

I am 45, 3 stone overweight and a SAHM who feels has lost her mojo since motherhood descended 12 years ago.

I want to change so I am hoping to start a thread for any like minded fellow frumps.

I am thinking clothes, hair, make up, diet and style tips in one place to help release our inner goddess.

Anyone care to join?

Wow BettyHooHoo you are really making progress. I will weigh myself at the end of next week. Long dog walks every day are a necessity and I will start Yoga with Adrienne ( on You tube) with dd2.
My tummy is also looking flatter but has a long way to go....

teta · 02/08/2018 11:11

Motherfeeder it’s also a easy diet to follow. It allows no snacking after dinner and no breakfast. Though depending when you last ate in the evening you can have a late breakfast. Fasting has been shown to be good for the metabolism and good for the gut. It gives your tummy a rest wihich is useful for Ibs and Insulin Resistance. Fasting has also has been shown to increase the ration of healthy bacteria and increase the diversity. This is considered to be a good thing for weight loss.
The 5/2 diet is another popular one. But I find it impossible to follow😁

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 02/08/2018 11:37

Please may I join too? I’m mid 30s but look and feel about 50 Grin. I have two under two and in the past 3 years I have become a massive frump (mostly due to the 5 stone weight gain, but also I’m bloody knackered all the time, my hair is falling out and I rarely get 5 minutes to myself). I start a new job in 2 months and NEED to sort myself out before then. I also have no disposable income, so it’s hard to do a wardrobe re-fresh.

From a quick look I like Lovestyle40 the most of the suggestions. The other ladies look fab, but they’re just so skinny their looks are unattainable for me!

I’m looking forward to all your hints and tips! Any good instagram / Pinterest suggestions for chin - shoulder length hair?

NerdyBird · 02/08/2018 13:32

I will join! My main problem is clothes. So many of them are old but I rarely get a chance to shop. I don't have to be formal for work but I would like to be a bit smarter. I also need to be comfortable so I can't be doing with heels or clothes that require suck you in type underwear. I have awful fat knees and ankles that won't slim with weightloss or exercise so shorter skirts and dresses or cropped trousers are out. I am currently wavering over dyeing my hair, I haven't done it for ages as my pre-baby colour no longer suits me and my hair felt awful. But the grey is only increasing!
Will post some tips if I can think of any.

teta · 02/08/2018 13:58

The blogs I read are ‘ That’s not my age ‘ Alyson (sp?) writes so intelligently about various issues. I also like the way she dresses.
Susie so so on Instagram ( she seems to have stopped blogging) for her good H&M buys. Also ‘ Does my bum look 40’ for her m&s try ons. I’m also entertained by kats writing even though she is very marmite on here.

Movingonup41 · 02/08/2018 13:59

Can I join?

I’m having real trouble with my style and sense of self worth since suddenly realising late last year I’d forgotten myself.

I hardly bought clothes in years. Hadn’t had my hair cut in years. Never painted my nails or had a skin care routine. It was like one day I woke up and really stopped and looked at myself.

I’m lazy and can’t do diets. I have spent a fortune trying to buy clothes and none of them ever look right. Or go together. I suppose I lack style.

Im desperately trying to buy holiday clothes for my first holiday abroad. I literally don’t have anything suitable.

So my question: Have we going any non frumpy maxi dresses.

I’ve been told repeatedly that I dress older than I am :(

I’m also on the look out for comfortable sandals.

Thanks Flowers

This thread was interesting. I don't think I'll rush out to get my colours done but I'll probably reread and have a look at what's in my wardrobe. It may help to get a more coordinated look and what may or may not suit you best/better.

I'd like to join please! I have a 2.2 year old and a 3.5month old and I can't imagine a time when I won't be covered if some kind of bodily fluid.

I'm doing Slimming World and have lost just over a stone but I still have 3 more to lose.

I'm inspired by you all x

HurricaneHalle · 02/08/2018 19:59

My latest piece of wardrobe advice to myself was to stop buying loads of patterned tops and blue trousers/crops etc and get myself some black trousers/crops and buy tops that are a solid colour. I found I had loads of clothes but no actual outfits!!

MM18 · 02/08/2018 23:48

I’ve registered just to join this thread.

I’m 44 and feel lost and sad. Yesterday I bumped into a former work colleague; she looked amazing and I just looked like a shabby sack of spuds, a gamma to her alpha.

I have a chronic auto-immune condition which has disfigured me to a certain extent, but I’m actually in relatively good health unlike most of my fellow sufferers. I need to take better care of myself though, as it’s a degenerative condition, and I would also like to take a bit more pride in myself so I never again feel as embarrassed as I did yesterday.

MM18 · 03/08/2018 00:18

A babystep in the right direction: after writing the above, I took off my make-up (often don’t bother until morning!) and put on my creams.

I showered this morning, but really I should have done it tonight as well. My feet stink from my trainers. Bad breath too, I think, because I haven’t cleaned my teeth. It’s late and the noise would wake my husband. Must try harder tomorrow.

JontyDoggle37 · 03/08/2018 05:49

mM18 I really feel for you. But, she could have had her first day out in ages yesterday where she felt good about herself. Remember you’re only seeing the edited highlights. I’ve got an app called 21 Habit that I’ve set up to help me achieve all the healthier habits I want to achieve. Some of mine are: no alcohol, put sunscreen on, take my vitamins, drink water etc. It does help. And well done for taking your make up off, you’ve inspired me, I never do mine either but I will tonight!

Justinonmybroomstick · 03/08/2018 06:00

Can I join in pls. I’m 60 and currently having some success with the Mediterranean 5:2. I’ve still a long way to go though.

Anyway I’ve dropped a few dress sizes since January but I’ve no idea who I am clothes wise. No idea at all actually with regards to anything. Oh, I am well on my way to my now natural grey hair. I was fed up of colouring it.

Oh and have appreciated the nail advice.

MotherFeeder · 03/08/2018 06:49

Thanks BettyBoo and Teta for explaining 16:8. I remember seeing Michael whatever his name is (the Italian one) discussing this. It's certainly interesting. Alas I love my food too much and will probably go back to SW in Sept.

DULLDull · 03/08/2018 06:55

Morning all. Welcome on board new passengers.

I didn't get round to the wardrobe (again) yesterday but I did gibe my finances a sort out. DH and I are terrible at budgeting but I have found an app called Money Dashboard which links to your accounts and assigns all your transactions to the different parts of your budget. Very useful if you need to keep track.

Today I have to redo my nails as they look awful. Shock

I've got some chores to do which includes my wardrobe. No idea why I am putting it off.

I second the thanks for explaining 16.8. I am starting again with the blood diet today, basically 800 cLs low carb for 8 weeks. 800 cals is a bit low for me so I am going to allow up to 1000. I will incorporate 16. 8 as well. TBH, I almost do it anyway as I don't normally eat after dinner at 6 so it just means eating breakfast after 10. That's doable.

I meant blood sugar diet. Its a Michael moseley one.

MM18 don't feel sad. As someone else said, you are seeing the edited version. And you are here now so your journey from Frumpsville has begun.

Justinonmybroomstick well done for the weight loss. For clothes advice I think Pinterest is great as well as Instagram where you can follow people's who's style you like.

Right, it’s bloody hot so today I want to wear shorts. Normally, in shorts, I look like, well, let’s not go there. So this morning I googled ‘Jennifer Anniston in shorts’. Looks like she does crisp fitted tee, shorts, necklace, great sandals and good hair. I’m going to go for a perky ponytail which will keep me cool. Woo I’ve made a style plan!!

I’m doing the Mediterranean version of it. I’m on 1900 calories 5 days a week and 800 the other 2.

It’s vedy doable.

DULLDull · 03/08/2018 07:26

Thank you for the tip. That diet sounds good.

teta · 03/08/2018 09:02

Wow, it’s brilliant that everyone is gravitating towards the diets that most suit their lifestyle. I’ve not been eating breakfast due to the 16/8 for a while now but had a real craving for porridge yesterday. So had a bowl for lunch made with mostly water and a splash of soya milk and lots of blueberries and half a small banana. I really enjoyed it.
Mm18 you’re here now. It’s time to start feeling good and start making small steps to help yourself. It must be very hard with a physical illness and I do sympathise.
We’ve all spent periods of feeling down, out of control and hopeless but it’s now time for a change.
No Soya milk for me today as it’s causing Ibs symptoms. I try and follow the Fodmap diet and whole bean milk is high in FODMAPs. Though Soya is beneficial to women over the menopause I will have to have it as Tofu which is safe.

Lunarsey · 03/08/2018 09:17

I spent my day off researching new, interesting and healthy recipes. I now have three weeks of menus and shopping lists which I can rotate. I have even planned lunches and breakfast so I have no excuse.

Starting mfp today. Have also dug out my old Rebelfit notes and will go through those again as I like the mindset of that.

I keep reminding myself of the beautiful clothes I can wear in the winter if I lose the weight. I have two gorgeous silk dresses, a forest green blazer which is my perfect colour and two shift dresses for work which make me feel amazing. I am going to get back into them!

Cailindeas35 · 03/08/2018 15:12

Hi ladies
I would love to join ye. I'm turning 39 in about a month, and I'm determined that this year leading up to my 40th is going to my year.
I'm not overweight but my stomach needs reducing. I'm going back to Boot camp next Tuesday, and I'm going to follow a decent diet.
I have decided I'm not buying fast fashion any more, I'm going to save to get a personal shopper and buy good quality from now on. I'm hoping to get an appointment with orla Sheridan style, she's on insta. I quite like her own personal style.
I have absolutely no skincare routine worth talking about, so I desperately need to sort that out. I just don't know where to start and find it desperately confusing.
I'm going up now to sort my wardrobe.
Hope ye all are doing well on this quest.
