I posted on chat a few days ago about this but thought this might be am even better place.

I am frumpy and I hate it.

I am 45, 3 stone overweight and a SAHM who feels has lost her mojo since motherhood descended 12 years ago.

I want to change so I am hoping to start a thread for any like minded fellow frumps.

I am thinking clothes, hair, make up, diet and style tips in one place to help release our inner goddess.

Anyone care to join?

Little

I'm agreeing

Plus both garments look awful on

The palette is seven shades of shite with a hessian slant

Just had my pedicure so feel slightly better. Also my facial waxing Blush

Lunarsey · 31/07/2018 16:49

Whenever I go in Fat Face it all just looks faded. Also Mantaray in Debenhams and that hideous Indigo range in M&S. I want at least a year's wear out of my clothes before they start looking like that! FFS I sound like my mother.... Hmm

Have spent most of my day off planning new menus full of interesting and healthy food.

Am now going to google Niko Niko running as I can't run to save my life. Have booked into my yoga class for next week too.

gingercat02 · 31/07/2018 17:41

Rightyho! I'm 49 not fat technically but far too wide round my middle. I used to have an amazing waist. I'm a Dietitian so eat quite well but naturally lazy and like red wine way too much. Also had diastasis recti (separated abs) in pregnancy, pilates has helped but need to do something more.
I have no style and no real idea what style I would like. I'm so not up with insta/blogs/Pinterest (Pinterest I'm particular gets right on my tits!) Where do I start.

Had my colours done as a 40th birthday treat but realised recently some of my current clothes are probably 15+ years old.
Wow that's more depressing written down. On holiday from Friday so will keep up with this and start when I get back.

VanillaSugar · 31/07/2018 18:12

Can I join?

Nails: I had terrible nails and then I discovered Margaret Dabbs at Space NK - foot or hand Creme is amazing for my nails which used to break and peel.

happypoobum · 31/07/2018 18:13

@treaclesoda What about these tan leather ones from Next? I have them and they are really comfortable and come in wide fitting. I did size up half a size too.

www.next.co.uk/style/st250047#596117

@starface I use pencil so I will try the Benefit one - thanks so much Smile

happypoobum · 31/07/2018 18:16

Oh - I also have the vertical lines down my impressive cleavage (See how I used a positive word to describe it?)

Looks really bad if I am leaning forwards and it all creases up Sad

I have decolletage cream that I got in a M&S Spring box thingy but haven't used it yet.

I can really recommend the Marie Kondo declutter for anyone who hasn't done it. I feel I have far more clothes to wear now as I can actually see what I have. I have done books and papers. Next I have to do miscellaneous things. I do feel better mentally too.

DULLDull · 31/07/2018 19:23

Gah. I just wrote a long message but accidentally deleted it.

I am so glad we have all got together. There are some tips here.

I applied Aveno after my shower today and will report back on my normally dry and scaley legs.

I have bought some revlon nail varnish with top and base coat which I shall do tomorrow. I bought a new nail file which I haven't done for years.

I am meant to be OK day 2 of the blood sugar diet but have failed miserably. I allowed myself to get too hungry and ended up eating a magnum Blush

There's been a few people asking who to follow on Instagram and Pinterest. Can we have everyone's suggestions in bold so they can be found easily?

I'll start with My fashionable 40s, My Midlife fashion and 40 plus not giving up yet* are all ones I follow on Instagram.

OP posts:
DULLDull · 31/07/2018 19:28

Well, that was a fail on the bold front, but you know what I mean,!

This thread so has my name all over it. I've lost myself completely. Don't know what to wear for my age plus being on a limited budget doesn't help but that doesn't mean it's not doable.

I will go back and read the entire thread now I've claimed you all as my own.

Liskee · 31/07/2018 20:05

I love this thread!

My wardrobe has been cleared out and the diet has been overhauled recently, so onto the hair and the nails for me. I feel I don't want to really settle into a style until I get to the weight I want to be, so it can wait and sorting hair and nails might help make me feel better short term.

I'll be purchasing base, colour and top coat for experimentation tomorrow!

namastayinbed · 31/07/2018 20:07

I follow the mystylephotochallenge hashtag on Instagram- lots of fab ideas and support.

tiger29 · 31/07/2018 20:16

Can I join this thread too please?! I'm 34 and have a 4 year old and a 6 month old. Since having kids I have piled on nearly 4 stone and I'm so frumpy and unhappy with myself. Feel like I have really lost myself in my thirties. I can't seem to stick to a diet either - don't know where to begin with it really Sad so good to read all the advice on here!

BettyBooHoo · 31/07/2018 20:22

I follow nataliejanesemmens and thefashionlift.

BagelGoesWalking · 31/07/2018 21:56

DULLDull if Aveeno isn't enough, try La Roche Posay Lipikar Baume (Boots), rich but not too heavy or greasy. Moogoo Milk Wash is supposed to be really good for dry/eczema skin as well (haven't tried it but have seen it recommended a lot).

happypoobum · 31/07/2018 22:16

DULL I looked at those websites and I have to say, all three ladies are quite slim...

Does anyone have any inspirational websites for those of us who are size 12 or over?

auditqueen · 31/07/2018 22:36

Can I join? Im not a mum but I'm 45 amd a size 22 and even though my style isn't frumpy, because of my size I look it. My hair is great, that's about it as far as the positives go.

I've also been ill with asthma issues for several months and suffer badly from hay fever and sinus infections so have felt like shite most of the summer. In fact I appear to have have sinus infections almost non stop for the last year. I completely lack energy as well and so have struggled to exercise. I'm not depressed, just down with feeling physically unwell.

Then there's the stress of my father being in hospital and now moving in with us and bringing the only chocolates I like lol.

I'm nit dieting as such at the moment, but trying to eat better and tracking calories and trying to be low carb - I also suffer from PCOS so that doesn't help. I'm not keeping to the calories limit, but doing well on the low carb stuff. Hopefully that will help? I don't know.

Sorry for the rant, feeling a bit hopeless at the moment.

Misty9 · 31/07/2018 23:13

I've been lurking but am now ready to board... I'm 37, heavier than I want to be, had split stomach with both dc and now look permanently pregnant - but lately have realised that no one cares except me.

I've never felt that put together and always struggle for clothes that fit well, being tall and large of behind. I'm mourning my youth too I think... :(

waterandlemonjuice · 31/07/2018 23:17

Hello frumps! Autocorrect wants to change that to grumps, are we a grump of frumps? (Someone asked what the collective would be)!

My boots parcel will arrive tomorrow so will start with top lip waxing. Urgh. Scared as have never done before.

JillyBear · 31/07/2018 23:47

@auditqueen, well done for posting, you sound like you have a lot on your plate.

Do you have any low carb tips Smile?

JontyDoggle37 · 01/08/2018 07:08

auditqueen I could have written the part of your post about asthma/hay fever/sinus. Asthma Consultant has just given me a new nasal inhaler which is helping a LOT, and also found my iron is very low - worth getting checked if you’ve also had a lot of infections as it can make you feel so tied and low in yourself.
On the question of what makes people look frumpy - I think poorly fitting bras need to take a lot of the blame. A badly fitting bra can make your whole shape look bad. I’ve just thrown out all the ones that are either tatty or don’t give me the right shape.
I also had a full wardrobe declutter yesterday and got rid of three whole bin bags of clothes.
For autumn style, I’m getting some inspiration, but then I’m going to try and go through my wardrobe and make up outfits and take photos of them, so then when I’m in a rush it’s easy to figure out what to wear, rather than grabbing the first thing I see.

DifficultBoy · 01/08/2018 07:41

happypoobum try lovestyle40. I just found her once I started following some of the others. She looks great.

DifficultBoy · 01/08/2018 07:42

Thank you for the tip Bagelgoeswalking

DULLDull · 01/08/2018 07:48

Oops.. Name change fail. Never mind.

Welcome aboard new passengers. We hurtling further from Frumpsville by the minute.

I am going to sort out my wardobe today (if DS let's me). This will be a mammoth task as it's full of stuff I don't need.

Another almost 40 frump here. Need to lose 4 stone and start looking after myself. Starting couch to 5k this week. Will it kill me?
