I posted on chat a few days ago about this but thought this might be am even better place.

I am frumpy and I hate it.

I am 45, 3 stone overweight and a SAHM who feels has lost her mojo since motherhood descended 12 years ago.

I want to change so I am hoping to start a thread for any like minded fellow frumps.

I am thinking clothes, hair, make up, diet and style tips in one place to help release our inner goddess.

Anyone care to join?

Can I hop on

Exactly same wonderful credentials as you Op

BettyBooHoo · 31/07/2018 09:54

Well, I refrained from snacking last night, weighed myself this morning and have lost 1.5lbs! Making a special trip to a nice grocers today to buy lots of lovely fruit to have in to snack on.

Remembered to actually curl my lashes this morning. It really does open up your eyes.

InASarnie · 31/07/2018 10:06

Hey can I join you? I haven’t got time right now to add a long message but have the same credentials - overweight, massive boobs, mum tum...the lot Confused
Quick question - I’ve downloaded Pinterest and Instagram and have figured out Pinterest but how do I find the right sort of people to follow on Instagram? Can anyone give me some suggestions of where to start?
Be back later on!

MarthasGinYard · 31/07/2018 10:10

Love a Gabor shoe

They are certainly getting up there on the style front too

treaclesoda · 31/07/2018 10:19

What's the collective noun for frump? A bleh of frumps? A podge of frumps? A gallumph?

What about a despondency of frumps?

Bezm · 31/07/2018 10:20

Im 58, size 16 and quite curvy with big boobs. My hair is a short messy bob, completely grey and I get lots of people asking me where I get it dyed!
My nails are also crap! When I can be bothered with rubber gloves it helps stop them breaking. Also, gel polish is great and only needs doing every 3 weeks or so. Gel polish on toes lasts longer and makes feet look fab! I have dark polish in my feet, navy, dark green, very dark red.
I've got fat knees! So don't like short dresses. Also hate thighs rubbing! I'd like to wear dresses in summer but what do I do about the rubbing?.?
Saw some great denim dresses on TV this morning, I might go and buy one. My advice to those of you who are bigger than you want to be, don't waste time trying to be thinner, embrace your size. Get some exercise in, wear clothes that flatter your shape, not disguise it. My DH says I look much better in fitted clothes than loose baggy things that I try to hide behind.

BagelGoesWalking · 31/07/2018 10:29

Haven't RTFT so apologies etc but I found the app My Fitness Pal helpful. I managed to lose 13 kgs. Have put a couple back over the year since. Want to get at least 1kg off again.

It helped me see what 100g rice (for example) looked like on a plate - my portions had definitely got far too big. I only weighed a few things in the beginning, you learn to see what's about right. It also helps to see carbs/protein %s. And it motivated me to see progress over a week/month etc.

AgathaTabithaBagatha · 31/07/2018 10:44

Grin treacle

treaclesoda · 31/07/2018 10:55

I've been inspired to book in for a cut and colour with a new hairdresser who comes highly recommended. So that's step 1 of operation de-frump underway Smile

DULLDull · 31/07/2018 11:06

Are these better treaclesoda www.johnlewis.com/gabor-lanzarote-slip-on-sandals/p3378086 I have wide feet so normally have to look at ecco but they are mostly frumpy. Blush

Nearly 48 here, two stone overweight and been feeling frumpy for quite a while.
Beauty-wise I’ve picked up some good tricks (sorry if I’m repeating anything already mentioned).
I use face serum on my hands - just cheap stuff like Aldi. Works a treat. And recently I’ve been gently patting Touche Eclat on my lids and brow bone, not just under my eyes. It really reduces the blue lid look and brightens the whole area.
White teeth give you a real boost -not Hollywood white, just bright and healthy. I’ve been trying some whitening strips to lift mine a shade.
Clothes-wise I’m in a massive rut so will be reading people’s tips with interest!

teta · 31/07/2018 11:13

Gosh Dull this train has really taken off 🚇 💯💥⚡️. There’s plenty of room for people to get on at the next stop. There’s Cool-max carriages and absolutely no over -crowding. Is there going to be a healthy food wagon attached?

MarthasGinYard · 31/07/2018 11:23

like this train

No sticky pits to limbo around on here....

So sick of having to dress to cater to my upper arms in this heat

A bacon slice would be more useful though.

Is Fat Face awful?

Just had some cropped jeans delivered and a blouson type thingy....

See if I can squeeze into em.

teta · 31/07/2018 11:24

Treaclesoda I can recommend Vionic shoes. They’re brilliantly comfortable and supportive and the sale prices are reasonable.
My aim this week is to drink no alcohol and no cake. We normally don’t have cake in the house but it was my twins birthday last week and we made two different cakes. With 4 at home in the holidays we have a lot more food in the house than normal and my boys eat non-stop. So I need to resist temptation and not unwind with wine at the end of the day.
Hair cut and highlights have been booked in for this week.

JillyBear · 31/07/2018 11:25

I'm sulking in the corner as my healthy eating plan has derailed already. Starting this very minute, I'm hopping back on.

I have my regular cut and colour booked for two weeks' time, and am using the spray stuff on my roots in the meantime, to cover the grey. So that's something Smile.

Going to sort through the wardrobe later and put all my autumn outfits to one side (in anticipation of being able to get into lthem come September).

Lucked · 31/07/2018 11:26

Yep you have nailed it OP.

I actually spend a bit on clothes but due to my shape most things from Hush or &Other Stories gets returned. I am sitting here in a pastel blouse and white fat face cut offs and it is not how I want to be styled, the clothes are naice enough and people say nice things but I feel the epitome of mumsy. I spent hours on the high street before resigning myself buying these trousers. I get the odd thing that feels like me but i look best in clothes I don't love.

One stone overweight but 2.5-3 stone to be at my dream weight. I need a o make changes that are sustainable even if it is a slow journey.

MissMarplesKnitting · 31/07/2018 11:42

Hopping on.

My core was shot with separated abs. I've started Niko Niko running and am trying to not eat so much crap but I'm a 12/14 and busty and have crap skin and feel awful about myself.

I too need sandals but think saltwater are just going to add to my mumsy vibe. Still dress like a student and I just look a mess.

I am starting yoga with Adrienne on some evenings now, which is nice, but I struggle to follow and remember the poses.

Maybe I should get up earlier and try it then.

Nails are painted but I bite them if I let it lapse. I refuse to look like my mother with my icky teeth and baggy clothes that hang off my norks and make me look huge. It's that or everyone sees my mum tum.

Meh. I will sort this.

gingercat02 · 31/07/2018 11:44

Me too but at work. Placemarking will be back later

AgathaTabithaBagatha · 31/07/2018 12:12

Is Niko Niko running that really slow trotting running where you aim for a proportion of your heart rate? Or something? I can't run as my pelvic floor would be dragging on the pavement behind me, but perhaps I could try that.

BettyBooHoo · 31/07/2018 12:27

A Fatigue of Frumps

A Frown of Frumps

JaneJeffer · 31/07/2018 13:07

This is good for strengthening nails, makes them look a bit nicer, and it's affordable.

Hop on, the train is about to leave frumpsville
NigellasGuest · 31/07/2018 13:11

I get mine filed and painted once a week, very inexpensive and nicer than gels!

MissMarplesKnitting · 31/07/2018 14:09

Niko Niko is indeed the slow jogging. I've found j can happily run for 45 minutes doing that technique.

Essie treat colour and care is good for nails that aren't perfect, adds colour and helps look after nails too.

LittleMy77 · 31/07/2018 15:25

martha I can never decide with fat face - I think it wants to be great but doesn't quite manage (imo) I think its the color palette and / or prints. As my mother succinctly put it "its all a bit duck shit brown, isn't it?"

treacle I like Born for sandals (I'm not in the UK but I think you can get them there) my latest ones are flat and gold but supportive and best of all have hard to see elastic on the straps to accommodate my wide feet, whilst still looking stylish!

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 31/07/2018 15:30

Essie colour and care is what I use on my flaky nails.
