I posted on chat a few days ago about this but thought this might be am even better place.

I am frumpy and I hate it.

I am 45, 3 stone overweight and a SAHM who feels has lost her mojo since motherhood descended 12 years ago.

I want to change so I am hoping to start a thread for any like minded fellow frumps.

I am thinking clothes, hair, make up, diet and style tips in one place to help release our inner goddess.

Anyone care to join?

I have enjoyed reading the whole thread. I waved my hair and put some make up on and felt amazing this week. Despite it still being over 30 degrees in the East and sweating a lot!

Yasmini · 07/08/2018 12:51

Absolutely @Imnotacelebgetmeouttahere!
It can seem like such a overwhelming amount to lose. Need to start thinking of what mini rewards to give myself once I pass each weight loss goal... I think it has been 8 years since I had a facial or beauty treatment!! Shock

Yasmini · 07/08/2018 12:54

Does anyone know of a hand cream that isn’t greasy and actually works?? I have yet to find one. Winter here has made my hands so dry and aged looking, just awful.

JaneJeffer · 07/08/2018 13:45

La Roche-Posay Cicaplast is good Yasmini

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 07/08/2018 13:50

Should have also said in my message, I’ve booked a threading and spray tan session for the end of this week. I’m hoping that will help!

JaneJeffer · 07/08/2018 14:02

I got a pair of straight leg jeans in Tesco. Nice thick denim and a fairly high waist band. I'm fed up squashing myself into skinny jeans.

Oh2beatsea · 07/08/2018 14:02

I hope I’m not too late to the party - please may I join you? I’m 46 and I’ve spent the hot summer moaning about how hot I feel and how frizzy the heat makes my hair. I’m also overweight so that really doesn’t help.

Do you think those really groomed ladies spend hours in the hairdressers/ beauty salons? Do they make lots of effort each morning spending ages getting ready or are they just naturally polished? 🤔

BagelGoesWalking · 07/08/2018 14:41

Yasmini I really like Avène cold cream hand cream at the moment. From Boots

sandyoh · 07/08/2018 15:18

Hello, I've read through this and recognise myself so many times over. I'm useless at looking after myself. Have the section stomach, frizzy hair, no skin regime. Overweight and frumpy. I'm feeling like my get up and go left me years ago!

I'm going to start with drinking more water, going to figure out what I need to even out the lines, and get some early nights. Also going back to the gym. If I remember where it is!

BettyBooHoo · 07/08/2018 15:18

Can I recommend Next High Waist Straight Leg jeans. They're very flattering if you want a change from skinnys.

Stilllivinghere · 07/08/2018 16:27

Thank you so much for the Rimmel nail nurse recommendation- first coat on and they look so much better. And you have me £15! Thank you! Great thread.

stimpy1 · 07/08/2018 16:32

Ooohhh I would love to join too, about to go back to work after a long time and fear meeting people and them thinking, god she has got old and fat! Have about 1 stone to lose and have no idea on what to wear, I am apple shaped which I don't think helps. May I suggest looking into the local college, at lot of them wll have beauty salons attached and the prices are really good. Where I live £6 for a manicure, £8-12 for facial and they also do electrical treatments that would be well out of my price range, so you could get a course for what you pay for one normal appt. May have to be flexible and treatments can take a little longer but worth a try!

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 07/08/2018 16:43

Thanks for the recommendations on straight legged, high waisted jeans!

teta · 07/08/2018 17:11

Coffee it’s going ok. I’ve sold three things so far which is good. I’m selling things at a good price which is better than them sitting in the back of my wardrobe unloved and unworn. The number of clothes I have with tags on is shocking. I think because I’ve been overweight for a few years I didn’t really know what to buy that suited me and bought the most random crap. Coupled with feeling really down and a bit worthless I felt I didn’t deserve to look nice.
Well no more.
Wearing electric blue Wrap t shirt and Jigsaw Crocus culottes. My kids say I look nice. Copious amounts of silver shampoo on my highlights is helping tone them down a bit and I annointed my feet with flexitol ( have really dry feet). Plus got a tube of bleaching gel from the dentist today to use at night.

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 08/08/2018 03:07

Awww Teta I could have written your post. I have so many clothes with the tags still on, and so many clothes I bought simply to cover my body, not because I like them 😢. Good luck with all the selling! At the very least you’ll clear space in your wardrobe ready for some things you really like.

teta · 08/08/2018 16:58

How is everyone doing ?
We are 6 weeks into the school holidays and I’m flagging.
How are the healthy eating and the self improvement projects?
I’ve realised in unearthing my wardrobe I have several replicas of everything. I also tend to buy what I like ie. several pink/coral jumpers. I have recently received two sweaters from Hush. One a lightweight cashmere in orange that’s lovely but still expensive. I was going to keep it but I’m not sure I would ever wear it. If it’s warm I wear a T/vest top or cooler a Jigsaw cotton jumper. So back it goes. It’s truly a cathartic experience doing this clear out.
Wearing Jigsaw ruffle navy jumper and H&M blue n white ruffle skirt. I’m living mainly in blue and white at the moment as it’s fresh and summery. With Nerolia Bianca for perfume. 😀

LiveLifeWithPassion · 09/08/2018 10:08

Thanks for the m&s face mask recommendation. I’ll check that out.
I’m going to start on the blood sugar diet today.
I’ve also started putting a bit of coconut oil in my hair and have cleansed and moisturised regularly.

sandyoh · 09/08/2018 17:50

Teta what is Hush sizing like? I have pjs from them but have never entered actual clothes territory.
M&S face mask. I might have to investigate those.
I've been using eye cream.
I caught my nail on the car door today and it's ripped off. I'd been working on growing my nails for a gel polish. Confused

sandyoh · 09/08/2018 17:51

I'm at my in laws and they eat carbs with carbs. I have the blood sugar book in my suitcase so I'll make notes at night when my stomach is bloated and sore.

DULLDull · 09/08/2018 17:55

Hello all. I am just sat on my sofa under a duvet throughly enjoying the sound of rain. I am in London and the endless 30+ heat has been hard work. I was feeling a bit sorry for myself as my defrump attempts have been somewhat thwarted by my lack of ability to diet so I thought I'd concentrate on the positive. Since starting this thread I have started applying body moisturiser daily, shaving my legs a few times a week, blow drying my hair, applied nail varnish (had the clear revlon top base on for a week and still going strong), wore 50spf cream daily and just started oil cleansing and cleaning with a hot muslin cloth. I also waxed my eyebrows but it left me with dry flaky skin so I will stick to tweezers. I need to find a really good intense conditioner for dry, highlighted hair or anyone has some tips.

As for the diet, I have half heartedly tried the blood sugar diet. We are on holiday next week so I think I'll put it aside until I'm back. I am going to try 1100 cals a day. Eating 10-6pm and low carb. So a bit of a combination. I have about 3 stone to lose.

And I've started sorting my finances. I have downloaded an app called Money Dashboard which tracks what I'm spending. Very useful if you are as hopeless as me at budgeting. I just need to sort my pension next.

Wait for me! Postmenopausal porker! 8.5 stone until the effing menopause, so I will not be taking any diet advice from anyone male or under the age of 50, thank you very much (and no, it isn’t my thyroid, just a serious snacking problem driven by chronic lack of sleep). More sleep, more exercise, botox and teeth whitening are all on my list. Maybe an allotment to keep me away from the biscuit tin.

teta · 09/08/2018 19:58

Dull I need that money dashboard. I am terrible at keeping track of my spending. For the first time ever I had money in my PayPal account. I made £58 on eBay in the first two days. It was nice buying a swimming costume with it. I have now listed 35 items. And I still have lots more to list.
Happyoldbat I am also not sleeping well. I’m worrying about dd1 a level retake. Last year was a absolute tragedy for her as two of her subjects were wrongly marked. So she lost her place for vet. Medicine. So although she thought her retake was fine we have a certain level of apprehension left over from last year.
Sandyoh I’m a medium in Hush at a size 14. But I’ve sent all my items back! I’ve discovered I already have 3 pink/coral jumpers/ linen t shirts and definitely don’t need more.
I returned some things to Monsoon yesterday and bought a couple of beach dresses instead. They have fantastic things in the sale. We’re going on holiday for ten days soon and having lost weight I’m beginning to almost feel back to my old self.

waterandlemonjuice · 09/08/2018 20:04

Dh said to me tonight "you look amazing" which is COMPLETEY overstating it as I have at least another 5 stone to,lose but hey I'll take it, it was nice anyway.

teta · 09/08/2018 20:06
