I wonder if Meghan has actually spent that much on those outfits or whether that's just what they're worth? Because a lot of celebs don't pay full-price for their clothes - designers are happy to let them have them for much less due to the amount of exposure it'll give them.

I'd be interested to see what Givenchy's profits are like by the end of the year and how they compare to previous years. I don't think they've had such a high-profile ambassador since Audrey Hepburn. Same for McQueen and Kate.

God you're right @Clionba, and Eugenie isn't even the eldest!

I may convinced magazines are getting story ideas from this thread. I have read articles in Hello online which make me think ‘hang on, we were posting about that last week’!

Well I think it’s time we started making some shit up.
(Although with the Royals; they are so entitled I don’t think you could make it up!)

However, there has been no speculation about Eugenie’s dress. I’d live it if Royal blue Blood Princess embroidery for “something blue” came up!

Clionba · 21/08/2018 14:33

You're right, QueenOfTheAndals!!
Beatrice is the elder daughter, so Blood Princess Number One ought to be embroidered, in blue, on her gown!
Apparently, the Royals are not allowed to accept freebies on clothing and accessories. Hence they pay full price.
This is where people like Pippa Middleton benefit, because they're not so restricted. This info is from the Paul Burrell, Ken Wharfe and Ingrid Seward books*

  • you can see how I waste my time Wink
TheCraicDealer · 21/08/2018 14:34

Apparently it's against royal protocol to use pieces gifted by stylists and designers, I'd guess that extends to discounts too. Isn't that what got the Yorks into hot water?

Clionba · 21/08/2018 14:37

I was about to say, they pay full price, but the Yorks were in trouble for freebies that were endorsements.
HMQ for example, always pays full price for those Launer handbags.

In the interests of brevity, I think the acronyms BP1 and BP2 are enough! Although really they are 3 and 4 behind Alexandra and Anne if we are going by age!

I am waiting impatiently for the next Hello article about this! Grin

Clionba · 21/08/2018 14:52

Right. Perhaps a family tree, embroidered in gold on the train!!

SenecaFalls · 21/08/2018 15:13

Anne is definitely BP 1 as daughter of the monarch and Princess Royal.

Lady Louise is also technically a BP.

VanillaSugar · 21/08/2018 15:44

BP is Buckingham Palace so we need a new acronym. How about WDC1 and WDC2?*

*We Don't Care

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 21/08/2018 16:04

The order of precedence is hilarious.
It was rejigged after Charles married Camillaso that Alexandra & Anne do not need to curtsy to her.
I think Kate & Meghan need to curtesy to Bea & Euj if William and Harry are not present; but it’s the other way round if they are.

Fergie takes no chances and practically genuflects when seeing the queen. (Then waves like a loon) she is going to be beside herself when Euj gets married.

Say what you like about Meghan but at least she's worked and achieved something in her life. And she has to curtsy to those two, who have barely done a days work between them!

OP posts:
Clionba · 21/08/2018 16:15

Can you imagine having to curtsey to those two. What nonsense.

SenecaFalls · 21/08/2018 16:26

Princesses (blood or by marriage) and princes don't generally curtsey/bow to each other in public or in private. The order of precedence is mainly about who arrives first or last, the order of procession on formal occasions, and where people sit.

Clionba · 21/08/2018 16:30

They do, though. When everyone arrives at Sandringham, say, or for the Trooping of the Colour, there's a fair bit going on.

SenecaFalls · 21/08/2018 17:05

If in fact they are doing all this bowing and curtsying to each other, they must be doing it in private. You never see it happening in public, except to the Queen.

Clionba · 21/08/2018 17:09

I've seen Kate curtsey to Charles and Camilla.

VanillaSugar · 21/08/2018 18:02

Bloody hell, how does Fergie stand up from that curtesy without falling over?

Everyone has to bow/curtesy to everyone up a rank for the first time they meet each other that day. Apparently.

Anyway, back to clothes. What sort of outfits will Fergie dress her DGCs in? I'm looking forward to that!

SenecaFalls · 21/08/2018 18:41

Everyone has to bow/curtesy to everyone up a rank for the first time they meet each other that day. Apparently.

So why are there no photos or video showing them doing this? They can't have met earlier in the day privately in every instance. Also rank and precedence are not the same thing.

The only thing I have found is Kate making a slight bob at Prince Philip. I haven't seen any of the others curtsying or bowing to anyone other than the Queen.

Clionba · 21/08/2018 18:42

Watch them meeting up at Ascot

SenecaFalls · 21/08/2018 19:18

I have seen lots of photos and video of curtsying and bowing at Ascot. But only to the Queen.

VanillaSugar · 21/08/2018 19:50

So instead of Whack-a-mole it's like the bobbing up and down or Whack-a-Royal. Sorry.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/theroyalfamily/9351571/The-Queen-tells-the-Duchess-of-Cambridge-to-curtsy-to-the-blood-princesses.html

I think curtsying looks quite bizarre; though marginally better if wearing a long dress. When a woman does a deep curtsy to a man, it looks even worse, IYSWIM.
