How does one look sexy?

Just this......I always feel I look comfortable with a big smile. Hair that falls into a neat parting. I want a more sexy, sultry look but can’t figure out how.....

Buggered if I know.

IMO there are four key aspects to looking sexy (understanding that sexiness also come from within yada yada...)

  1. make up, primarily lipstick and mascara (then concealer, blusher and eyeshadow)

  2. jewellery - simple but bold is good in gold or silver - hoops or something dangly, (necklaces choker style or bangles are also good as are rings). Keeping jewellery simple in style mean sultry rather than fussy

  3. something shiny - leather jackets, skirts, pleather etc add a more overt sexiness to an outfit, you can still look demure in leather and second hand leather jackets are easy to find in charity shops.

  4. heels - I never wear them but simple stiletto heels are sexy and demure

They key to looking sexy is to look like you’ve made an effort rather than showing lots of skin. And keep it simple simple simple. Stay away from fussy patterns or cuts, plain bold colours work well.

When I want to look sexy I add hoops, lipstick, mascara, leather jacket and smart flats or leather boots. It can turn around my scruffiest if outfits.

I think some people just are sexy. I work with a chap who is very average looking - bit of a beer belly etc but oh my god, he's just a really sexy chap and I have no idea why.

rightknockered · 09/07/2018 00:24

If I want to look sexy, I wear natural looking make up with a bit of sheen, mascara, define my eyebrows and make sure my hair is not frizzy. Wear a dress that skims but doesn't cling, heels I can walk in, and dangly gold earrings.
Flat shoes are comfortable and can be smart, but never sexy. Trainers can look ok, but again not sexy. Heels always work, they lengthen your legs, balance your body, make you hold your posture straight. They improve the look of everything.
Belt everything.

BlameItOnTheNeon · 09/07/2018 01:34

I think it depends very much on who you want to find you sexy doesn't it?
Where I live (not UK) its very rural, lots of pickup trucks, biker bars etc, and what's sexy here probably wouldn't be considered sexy in say a cosmopolitan urban area.

BlameItOnTheNeon · 09/07/2018 01:37

Also I disagree that flat shoes can never be sexy, a pair of nice (not twee!!!) cowboy boots worn with a short, nicely fitting sundress can look sexy as hell - but again, in the right setting :)

All excellent advice, I wear no makeup, no jewellery, and just look fresh faced all the time. I am taking notes here, any extra thoughts are welcome

where are these such things as 'heels you can walk in'.....I just have old courts from marks but would be nice to get something better than this!

Gabor shoes are usually comfortable and not too high to walk in! They often put a platform so the appearance is a high heel but the reality isn’t so teetering!

@bionicnemonic
How comes your link to Gabor goes through affiliate marketing?

bionicnemonic · 09/07/2018 09:08

??? It goes through to a pair of black sandals when I click on it???

bionicnemonic · 09/07/2018 09:09

Did it do something odd when you went to it? That’s rather concerning

AnaViaSalamanca · 09/07/2018 09:19

MN does this to links, so that they make a commission if you end up purchasing an item through links posted here.

Tiredspice2 · 09/07/2018 09:19

I don’t think being “sexy” has anything to do with make up, high heels etc. That’s just superficial. Although of course it helps if you look after yourself, for sure. I think things like confidence, humour, generosity of spirit and natural intelligence make some one very attractive.

AnaViaSalamanca · 09/07/2018 09:21

I think sexy means different to different people. If you want to look sexy to the average man, I think it's mostly hip to waist ratio (so pencil skirt type of stuff), big eyes, lip gloss, round boobs, glowing skin.

bionicnemonic · 09/07/2018 09:26

@AnaViaSalamanca thank you for explaining!

BerniceBobsHerHair · 09/07/2018 09:34

MN puts the affiliate link in as far as I am aware. Will see if I can find a link to info about it.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 09/07/2018 10:30

I think sexy is about skin and hair - looking all glowy and swishy is sexy.
I'm not sure it's something you can 'do' tbh - some people just are.
Some women wear and do everything we associate with sexiness, like make up, figure hugging clothes, high heels etc but just don't look sexy, whereas other women can wear jeans and a t shirt and have 'it'.

MsJinglyJones · 09/07/2018 10:42

Agree some people just have it and I'm not sure it's something you can make happen very easily. The smile is a good thing - natural and confident is sexy. Doing an overtly "sexy" look can tip over into just looking like you're trying to be sexy IYSWIM.

But also it's in the eye of the beholder. Friend of mine loved her clothes and dressing up for a glam night out, but to her bewilderment her boyfriend really went mad with lust when she wore tracky bottoms! He just liked how they look.

billysboy · 09/07/2018 10:43

confidence has a lot to do with it imo and certainly less is more

Jorah · 09/07/2018 10:48

MN put the link in.

I started a thread about Tiffany and it got zapped when posters complained I was a stealth marketer!!

Got a stern email from HQ as well.

They then apologised and reinstated thread.

It's their link!!

Jorah · 09/07/2018 10:49

Sorry OP.

In answer to your OP I have no idea.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 09/07/2018 10:56

Confidence, big smile, friendly...the usual really, male or female.

I think it's nothing to do with the right make up or necklace! But obviously, those things help people to feel at their best, therefore projecting confidence etc.

CountFosco · 09/07/2018 20:36

An hourglass figure helps a lot. And personality, being funny and friendly and lots of eye contact and being a little bit flirty. Otherwise it's a bit 'sexy is in the eye of the beholder'.

IwankaTramp · 09/07/2018 20:45

Well overtime the men I have known have generally all fancied Helen Baxendale (back in the day), Justin Frischmann, Gillian Anderson and Nigella.

It is not always obvious to women what men find attractive to my mind.
