Go for it! No question too silly.......

I totally get how intimidating some counters can be ! Plus I've gone "undercover" recently and gone for a few free makeovers and have wanted to cry when I see myself after and am determined to never make any of my clients or models feel like that.......

I'm not promising I'm a miracle worker but I've got a few years of experience in lots of fields of MUA so if I can help I will x

Ps I think you should start the thread off lovely battleax! X

Hiya, I've tried to learn how to apply eyeshadow but am still not that great at it. Any YouTube or other make-up artists or courses you'd recommend? Thanks in advance!

mmmgoats · 28/06/2018 23:19

it seems to happen with pencil and gel typeS maybe it’s my eyes! Happens immediately when i apply to the upper rim of my eyes
Don’t suppose you know any nifty tricks for getting rid of spots either do you? I’m having the mother of all break outs along my jaw line and everything i try seems to spread them! Got an event on sunday and currently look awful
and confidence is at an all time low :( thank you @imsconequeen

imsconequeen · 29/06/2018 07:25

You've maybe just got too wet eyes for applying in the waterline (top and bottom) so just don't bother if it's not having the effect you want.

Spots? I got them late 30s. Tried loads of stuff. Environ and Yasmin pill worked in the end........

Mmmgoats it works for some but not all!
Products with vit a good for skin clearing too but not throughout pregnancy x
I bet no one notices your skin as much as you do. We ALWAYS think it's worse than it is.....if in doubt bright lip or smokey eye to distract!!! X

All over Instagram I've seen something called Farsali care facial oil. Vloggers are using it just before or at the same time as foundation. It's really expensive. Have you seen it and do you rate it?

On the other hand I've also spotted makeup revolution primer oil - could it be good for someone with dryish skin?

OrcinusOrca · 30/06/2018 17:49

Please can I ask your thoughts on whether you think any of these shades of foundation are a better match than others on my skin, or are none very good?

I get quite dry patches of skin across my cheeks and near my mouth but am also prone to a bit of chin shine. I have a super peach fuzzy face too as you can tell so I am always careful to avoid caking it on. Also struggling with bad hormonal acne on my chin, I feel like folic acid has made mine worse...Am very interested in all the foundation comments Grin

From the top, we have Estée Lauder double wear light, Estée Lauder double wear, No7 Perfect Match and Dermablend (which I didn't rate at ALL for my skin, feels v orange too, this is 15 opal shade wise). I think the normal double wear is my favourite but I don't want to regret purchasing it! Thank you Thanks

Hi orcinus
From what I can see if your skin it looks amazing and I bloody love your freckles!!!! Do you really need/want to wear a heavy foundation such as doublewear. In these 2 pics it looks like none of them are suitable.....! Sorry! X

OrcinusOrca · 30/06/2018 21:16

@imsconequeen thank you for replying, and for your lovely comments. Haha freckles do seem to be more popular these days, I don't think I know many other people with them. I am 26 so I daresay my skin will start to age very quickly Sad I'll show you my nasty chin, although it is a little calmer right now, I have so many unsightly blemishes from it. The chin is the sole reason I am slapping on foundation, I used to just wear touché eclat under my eyes and mascara. I am quite lucky to have long lashes that curl well but it means I am quite lazy and never do eyeliner or eyeshadow etc, I am therefore very unskilled make up wise.

Do you have any advice as to what I should be looking for foundation wise? Three of those four I was recommended that type/shade by people on counters, in Debenhams/Boots/John Lewis. It is also interesting what you said about only applying foundation to certain areas, I would have to do my whole face to get it to blend but I guess that is based on the fact the shade is so wrong for me..? No one ever gives me the most pale shade, normally one or two up. Am I exceptionally pale, is it the shade that is an issue? Thanks again Thanks

Orcinus my chin is like that, it’s hormonal acne and it drives me insane! The skin on the rest of my face is perfect but my chin let’s me down. I get really self conscious about it.

I mostly use max factor pan stick and bb cream to cover it, doesn’t really last of work though.

imsconequeen what’s the best concealer for acne and the dark blemishes it leaves behind please? I want to carry on using my bb cream but ditch the pan stick as it’s pants. Thanks

imsconequeen · 01/07/2018 12:14

Didn't know they even did pan stick!!!!used to wear it for stage make up more than 20 years ago!

I like Roche posay effaclar duo products for acne and scarring.......I find benefit boing and collection 2000 concealer quite good for coverage.......

Products with glycolic/lactic acid also good for blemishes and their annoying scars.

Microneedling facials have also worked wonders on my scars around jaw/chin but not cheap!!! X

imsconequeen · 01/07/2018 12:16

Orcinus why don't you go back to same counters and ask to see their most pale foundations and Ask for sample. That way you can try before you buy to see which is the palest......if you get a good match you could just use over tzone and chin if you blend blend blend?!

I am very fair skinned with freckles and can not find a foundation pale enough. I have no yellowy tone in my skin and I find lots of supposedly very pale foundations are either yellowy on me and too dark or chalk white.

Hi imscone - great thread, definitely the best AMA!

What foundation would you recommend for someone with:

  • very dry, eczema ridden skin,
  • allergic to perfume and anti-aging creams/serums etc
  • bad scarring/discolouration from steroid creams.

Lots of mainstream brands (MAC, Bobbi Brown, Estee Lauder etc) have aggravated my eczema. Clinique and Boots No7 have been the best but even then not great.

The irony is very sensitive skin often has the most to cover up but the least choice of products!

imsconequeen · 03/07/2018 13:26

Veil foundations have been known to help and hide outbreaks of eczema (high street wise L’Oreal total match can do too) but personally I wouldn't put any make up on it and go hard with your skincare!!!!!

Vichy dermablend offers good coverage for scarring etc but I'm not sure how it would suit in patches of dry eczema.....sorry I can't be more helpful!! X

OP posts:
dameofdilemma · 03/07/2018 13:55

imscone - that's ok. Suspect the real answer is just not to use make up often.

imsconequeen · 03/07/2018 13:57

Probably best dame, sorry x
I barely wear any make up....it saves a lot of time! X
