Good quality leather, no massive brand name or logos. Tan, black, navy, burgundy.

BubblesBuddy · 24/06/2018 19:41

I cannot believe the number of Mulberry owners on here. Not very exciting or original. You can tell a Mulberry a mile off.

Classy bags are Dior Lady, Chanel 2.55, Gucci Bamboo or Jackie, most LV Epi leather, Prada (the structured one) and a few others that are not seen as often such as an Alexander McQueen Heroine (I have a Novak), and a Givenchy Antigone (a wonderful bag) . Tods make great classy casual bags. Jimmy Choo are well made and under estimated, as are Smythson. Bottega Veneta and of course Hermes are timeless.

The Mulberry owners need to get out a bit more to see what’s in the wider world of bags! I have a Mulberry navy blue suede Alexa. I bought it on a whim and it’s a bit dated. It’s saved by being navy blue suede with studs. It’s very bling for Mulberry and as such, not recognisable!

Mulberry bags both real and fake are prolific where I live and the Bayswater is particulary popular as a school bag, as is the LV MM Neverfull - we're not in a city.

BubblesBuddy · 24/06/2018 19:44

Givenchy Antigona (autocorrect!!)

Absolutely love the Jackie - perfect for finishing off a boho look. Mine hasn't had an outing for some time...you've encouraged me to get her out now. Grin

There's lots of mention of designer bags on here....what about a simple leather bag in the neutral colours mentioned, perhaps bought in an Independnet leather shop on holiday in Spain or Italy, or bought in the UK?

Does it have to be designer to be classy?

Don't all of the brands mentioned show their brand name pretty clearly, even if not with a big gold screaming plate?

Just wondered....I have a couple of leather bags I love which I've had for many years and have aged well - they seem fairly classic to me, but none are designer ow pull have cost more than perhaps £80-£100 tops. Is it really only designer bags that are quality?

friendlyflicka · 24/06/2018 19:58

I definitely would go for a Givenchy - any of them I am looking at are lovely, some nice YSL ones, or a McQueen Heroine. I really like a mini bag as well - very sweet styles. I like pink bags too. I am fairly conservative but i don't like to be entirely boring all the time!

littlebillie · 24/06/2018 19:58

Chocolate I agree my best begs have been leather and not designer

KimchiLaLa · 24/06/2018 20:01

A hermes birkin or Kelly, 25 or 30cm. Unfortunately I would never be able to get my hands on one. The second hand market is extortionate and I don't like the sound of jumping through hoops to get one from a hermes store.

Dancergirl · 24/06/2018 20:02

fleurie I've also my eye on a Mulberry Leighton. I like the smaller size in yellow.

Yes. It's so common. Hence why I have my beloved Modalu (mines so old it was called Bristol when I bought it!).

Nothing at all to do with envy cos I can't afford a Mulberry......

ladyratterley · 24/06/2018 20:16

Oh FFS Oly5 you’ve made me look at the Coach sale! Grin
I like to buy good value reduced bags for winter in the sale in the summer. I now can’t decide between the hobo in black or the Mercer satchel 30. Both classy in my opinion!

Processedpea · 24/06/2018 20:17

i like bags that are really plan but great designs. can't stand branding or naff prints (like LV) but it's all personal taste, yes and Mulberry are pretty cool

GinandGingerBeer · 24/06/2018 20:22

I love the modalu pippa too. They've got a sale on atm. Got the large black croc for £126 (medium was £112 I think) and a navy medium for £36! Think full price they're around £250.
Sale, then a 20% reduction then I found a 30% off code on line which worked!

SoddingUnicorns · 24/06/2018 20:27

Why does it matter what bag someone else is carrying? If you don’t like it, don’t buy one. It’s that simple. The sneering isn’t nice or necessary.

Snapespeare · 24/06/2018 20:30

confussed you are an enabler! Bought this Nicole Farhi on eBay today for £25 - have never bought anything like this before... Very excited about its arrival!

This is my current handbag, it’s taken the place of my beloved Bayswater and I think I actually prefer it!

RiskIt4Biscuit · 24/06/2018 20:34

Good quality, not too fussy designs. I don’t think a classy bag has to be a specific brand.
Most importantly, there is nothing classy about wearing a fake bag.

I personally wear some of the older Mulberry bags (I don’t like the quality of the newer leather), Chanel and Bottega Veneta.

Brendatheblender · 24/06/2018 20:42

When I get back to work when DCs start school, this is what I shall be buying www.paulsmith.com/uk/women-s-navy-swirl-concertina-small-leather-tote-bag

ThenCameTheFools · 24/06/2018 20:45

Snape-I have a satchel bag like that. I love tan leather.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 24/06/2018 20:49

I love my Mulberry Alexa... I've got two... a black one for winter and one in mustard yellow for summer. It may not be the most original bag to own but it ticks all the boxes for me - satchel-style so I can have both hands free (essential for someone as clumsy as me), not fussy and strong. I'm sure there are more exciting bags out there, but this one works for me!

BubblesBuddy · 24/06/2018 20:57

Yes Chocolate, you can find nice bags abroad but it depends on the interpretation of the word classy. I tend to think it means they have a certain cachet and are perhaps iconic. The little atelier abroad is producing great bags but do they have any cachet attached to them or are they faintly iconic? No. But they might be great bags. It’s also about the quality of leather and the finish of the bag. I have a mint green Jimmy Choo with a pink suede lining. It’s almost edible. It’s classy.

AMQ are virtually logo free, as are Smythson and Tods, and I particularly said LV Epi leather which has one tiny stamped logo. You know what they are if you know your bags. Not all LV bags are the logo ones.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 24/06/2018 21:21

I've got a mulberry mini kite and I've never seen anyone else with one, so not common where I live.
That being said, the 2 coach bags I have are equally lovely and were a fraction of the price - coach sales are fab!

Thebluedog · 24/06/2018 21:32

I’m currently lusting after these two
