@HoneyDragon on sale in Selfridges just now! I got mine half price!

RJnomore1 · 23/06/2018 13:19

Toddling off to Selfridges site now...

I'm SUPPOSED to be getting a new bathroom...

SoddingUnicorns · 23/06/2018 13:20

@RJnomore1 I got some lovely Kurt Geiger trainers (sort of converse looking) for £29 too.

HostaToFortune · 23/06/2018 13:21

@Oly5 does the turnlock hobo feel huge when on your shoulder (as opposed to crossbody)? I’ve been eyeing them but worried about size, I’m quite short.

I have a Mulberry Ledbury (Bayswater shape but smaller, grab bag) and a beautiful putty coloured Birkin-ish bag from a little shop in Ibiza town that I have used every day for work for 3 years and still looks like new, but which is lined in suede and therefore exceptionally heavy.

I agree with the other comments - classic colours, leather, restrained hardware and details, no huge logos. A fairly classic shape will mean that you carry your expensive bag for years and it will go with all sorts of outfits.

I can see why the Longchamp Le Pliage are popular, they are incredibly practical. But they are a bit done to death. I have a cheap knock off from eBay, complete with leather straps and flap. It does the trick for when I’m travelling with work and don’t want to carry my heavy bag.

RJnomore1 · 23/06/2018 13:22

You lot are a bad influence!

RoseWhiteTips · 23/06/2018 13:24

The photograph of the handbags on the steps is interesting...
Some of the bags are exactly the types to avoid.

SoddingUnicorns · 23/06/2018 13:27

Sorry Blush Grin

RoseWhiteTips · 23/06/2018 13:29

RoseWhiteTips. Really? And no, Mulberry isn’t cliched. Nylon totes on the other hand tend to look like the lining of my old handbags in the 90s.

Yes, they are a tad ostentatious, in my view. Not my style at all but I guess someone with 10 of the things doesn’t do simplicity!
Classic preppy style is much more me.

rightknockered · 23/06/2018 13:38

I have a ysl tote, which is understated with minimal logo. Lovely and easy to carry, can fit a lot in it, and not too heavy when full.
I do want a Mulberry Bayswater now though. Are they easy to carry on the shoulder, the weight of the leather doesn't really bother me.

rightknockered · 23/06/2018 13:48

What about the Bayswater tote? Although I know if I got it, I would still be hankering after the classic Bayswater. It is just so beautiful

3stonedown · 23/06/2018 13:52

I also like the DKNY totes with the logo taken off. Mulberry is out of my price range but I would have one if I could afford it. (Maybe could afford second hand but wouldn't trust it was real)

Aprilshouldhavebeenmyname · 23/06/2018 13:53

Any bag that doesn't have a half eaten sweet given by a dc stuck in it. Grin

The Coach hobo strap is definitely long enough for cross body.
It’s a fairly big bag (good for work!) but not sure it’s big enough for a laptop. The returns policy is good though so worth a try

sunshinesupermum · 23/06/2018 14:41

Thanks Oly5

AwkwardHeliotrope · 23/06/2018 14:45

Ralph Lauren can be really understated and quite affordable, I've swapped from Mulberry to RL

sexnotgender · 23/06/2018 14:49

@screamingvalenta yes it’s a black Del Rey.

Imnotverygoodatallthis · 23/06/2018 14:54

Thanks Oly5! Love you, but my wallet doesn't Grin

frasier · 23/06/2018 15:01

I bought a constructed Prada years ago, maybe 20 years, no photo because it’s at the other house, sorry. It’s v plain, very sleek, and I used it to death... until unconstructed bags came in and it looked dated.

I put it away. About a year ago I saw something similar in Harvey Nichs and got it out again. Took it into Prada to see if they could polish/clean it and apparently it is now worth two and a half times what I paid for it.

Buy the bag of your dreams. It’s an investment!

Oly5 · 23/06/2018 15:02

Ha! I’ve fallen in love with Coach, it’s such nice quality. The sales at xmas and summer are always half price and fantastic

AwkwardSquad · 23/06/2018 15:03

I like Coach bags, and Joseph ones. My favourite Coach bags are the Rogue in grey, or the messenger bag. Can’t really afford either make, though! And if I save up the money I’d probably spend it on tech instead tbh.

Cacofonix · 23/06/2018 15:05

This is my bag at the moment.

What I love about it is that it isn't heavy to start with. I like mulberry but they are so heavy before you put your stuff in!

I have a dark blue version which I can't see online.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 23/06/2018 15:18

The Mulberry is really nice. I loathe anything fussy, or with lots of metalwork and logos all over the place.

My MiL has a Prada bag that she bought about 15 years ago that is probably my ideal one, but that was in the States. I'll try to find a pic.

FlorenceLyons · 23/06/2018 15:37

I have a simple brown leather slouchy cross-body bag that I love. Bought it in Banana Republic at least 10 years ago. I've just had the zip replaced and lining repaired, and it's as good as new (actually nicer as it's softened so beautifully).

JaceLancs · 23/06/2018 16:26

This is my current bag jaeger in dark grey
Goes with most things and looks ok for work or leisure
