Am I the only one that thinks midi length is unflattering?

This horrible length reminds me of the skirts my mum wore through the 90s! They look rubbish on me.. and most people I see them on!
Am I the only one thinking this? I went shopping looking for maxi skirts or knee-length but was thwarted in most shops!

I think you need to be tall to carry it off.

Frombothsidesnow · 03/06/2018 22:49

Not at all alone in this. I went to a few shops today looking for a long cotton skirt and came out with nothing. Not only are they are midi, but most of them are sodding pleated, and viscose or polyester. The only long cotton skirt I found was in Boden and just too expensive.

rightknockered · 03/06/2018 22:50

I have a few, but agree they can be tricky to get right. And frankly am fed that every skirt is either extremely short (for me) or a strange length. Wrap skirts look ok, and I have one white button down linen skirt that I like. Plus all the denim skirts are frayed, sick of them

AnyFucker · 03/06/2018 22:52

I am tall and slim. They suit me.

Above the knee accentuates my skinny legs and maxi is so passe, darling

Midi all the way

atryingmama · 03/06/2018 22:53

I wear midi length skirts/dresses quite often and I like them! I'm tall and slim though so I think that helps- ends up looking maxi and frumpy on shorter people. Hmm

WhiskeySourpuss · 03/06/2018 22:57

I wear midi length pencil skirts/dresses all the time, I'm not exactly tall or slim & they suit me but I couldn't get away with a pleated midi skirt the pleats would flatten out over my arse.

Oly5 · 03/06/2018 23:00

If I was tall and slim I could see the appeal.. they just look mumsy on me (5ft 5, size 12)

Big midi fan here but I am tall and slim too - bit of a trend emerging!

rightknockered · 03/06/2018 23:09

I'm 5ft 5 and size 4-6, they'd probably be easier to wear if I could just grow two inches taller

SallySidebottom · 03/06/2018 23:16

I want to love them but they look awful on me, I'm a size 12 5ft 3.

frasier · 03/06/2018 23:18

I’m tall and love them!

buckeejit · 03/06/2018 23:20

I'm tall but obese. I like midi in this weather as it's so hot & hate my knees on show, so more a best of a bad bunch than looking good. However, I find them very difficult to find

Muddlingalongalone · 03/06/2018 23:21

Short legs here - look terrible on me. V frumpy and seem to make my calves and ankles look huge.
Knee length or 1inch above ftw

IrenetheQuaint · 03/06/2018 23:23

I used to wear midi skirts when I was a teenager in the 1990s and they were the on thing... psychologically it is very hard to go back to them (plus what I could get away with as a 17-year-old is rather different to what I can wear now. Especially as like other posters I am 5'5 which doesn't feel tall enough).

HouseOfGoldandBones · 03/06/2018 23:24

I'm tiny (just 5'), and I love them.

I'm too small for maxi & I've got what my Mother charmingly calls footballer's knees, so midi is my go-to.

I think they're the most flattering on almost everyone,

CointreauVersial · 03/06/2018 23:46

Ooh no, I love a midi! Pretty much any style of skirt - slim, full, pleated....

Maxi is just too hard work, and knee length feels utterly frumpy now.

I'm 5'7", size 10, so fairly tall and slim, I guess.

luxurybiscuit · 03/06/2018 23:51

I’m tall & currently fat & I love them. Will love them even more once I’m tall & slim... Ironic though as they were the length I encouraged my mum & aunt to ditch in the late 80’s as they were sooo embarrassing. Am going away with my Mum next week, packing midis, I can guarantee she’ll remind me of my teenage hatred of them!

welshmist · 03/06/2018 23:54

five foot two here. I would have to cut inches off them, so no not a good look on me.

avamiah · 03/06/2018 23:54

Hi Oly5,
I hate midi dresses and midi skirts as i have big calf muscles so I always wear maxi dresses and maxi skirts.
I’m a huge fan of Boohoo and they have lots of maxi dresses to choose from, infact I just placed a order earlier and they do free next day delivery .
Hope this helps.

avamiah · 03/06/2018 23:57

luxurybiscuit,
I love your honesty .
👍👍👍

Mrsramsayscat · 03/06/2018 23:58

I think they're not flattering. They cut you off at the widest part of the knee. They're hopeless with flats.

I tend to shorten them slightly so they're not too far below the knee.

Loandbeholdagain · 03/06/2018 23:58

They look good on my 18year old slim niece.

I’m a size 10 (so not huge!) but clearly a post children body. They look terrible on me.

fleuriepeninsula · 04/06/2018 05:33

I’m tall and slim and they aren’t flattering, even though my legs are proportionately long.

Although I have skinny legs, they’re also shapely, and midi finishes at the fattest bit of your calf.

Luglio · 04/06/2018 05:41

I want to love the midi but I just can't get them to work with my legs: they always cut off at the widest part of my massive calves (cyclist) and make me look like something out of a Richard Dadd painting.
