Holy shit - first bikini wax!

Scottishlassie81 · 31/05/2018 14:19

Just had my first wax ever at lunchtime and I chose a Hollywood bikini wax! In at the deep end.

I thought it would be painful but not too bad and I have several tattoos.

Oh my god! It was agony!

I'm scared to look at it!

I had a bikini line wax & ended up with red bumps.

I would like to have all the hair off as there are white hairs in places (ick!) but I'm just not brave enough.

Shaving leaves me with redness whatever products I use.

I'd try Nair but one of my patients ended up with sore areas after a reaction to hair removal cream.

Scottishlassie81 · 31/05/2018 15:15

Yeah I have been using the skin, hair and nail vitamins and the 'that' hair has been boosted out of control. I am stubbly the day after shaving. I am hoping this is a longer, smoother solution. According to the waxer this was the most painful and the next one will be easier as the hair will be finer.

We shall see!

If you stick with it OP it DOES get better. I'm 4 years in to waxing and it barely bothers me anymore, it's never fun but it doesn't really hurt.

Just don't do any different hair removal in between waxes. Shave once and you're back to square one.

NancyJoan · 31/05/2018 15:17

It will never be as bad again! Keep going regularly, and it will become ouchy, rather than agony.

CocoAndTheChocolates · 31/05/2018 15:18

Yes honestly the more you go the better it will be. It won't ever be FUN but won't be shocking every time

TammySwansonTwo · 31/05/2018 15:25

I’m so too old to give a shit any more, and as times gone on I’ve become increasingly uncomfortable about pubic hair removal. The most mine gets is maybe a trim, or if I have to wear a swimming costume (haven’t for years!) I might get my bikini line waxed, but I’m never having more done again (and I don’t know how anyone can tolerate having the lot removed!)

MiniAlphaBravo · 31/05/2018 15:28

The shock will go down but I never found that the hair got finer AT ALL, I think that’s either a myth or I’m just overly hairy Blush

I need to get a wax soon and I’m dreading it, definitely not going for a Hollywood!

SoddingUnicorns · 31/05/2018 15:29

My friend is a beautician and does my eyebrow wax and semi permanent lashes, for months she’s been at me (in a friendly way, not pressuring) to let her wax my bikini line and legs.

I’m bloody glad I’ve stayed firm and said no now! Next time she asks I’ll point her in the direction of this thread Grin

MindBodyChocolate · 31/05/2018 15:32

I’ve never had it done and I’m not going to. I’m quite relaxed about public hair and keep it neat by trimming. Also, I have my top lip waxed and find it excruciating. The pain has never got better and I could honestly cry afterwards. And I’ve had 2 kids with no pain relief so I don’t think I have a particularly low pain threshold. So I just can’t imagine the agony of a Hollywood. Not for me 😖

MindBodyChocolate · 31/05/2018 15:33

Pubic not public hair!! Uptight auto correct!!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 31/05/2018 15:38

I agree, it gets easier and less painful. Keep going. I've been having this done (all off) for about five years and it's much finer, doesn't hurt much now.

I'd recommend an Ibuprofen and maybe a paracetamol half an hour before your next visit?

Keep exfoliating now and moisturise.

BlueJava · 31/05/2018 15:41

It often seems so painful when I've been in the UK and I've tried several places. I don't understand why but where I used to go in Hong Kong it didn't hurt half as much as was much quicker, they used to use chocolate wax but not seen it elsewhere. I used to live near Lan Kwai Fong so maybe they had a lot of ladies of the night so were experts as they did it so much!

EleanorLavish · 31/05/2018 15:42

I bought a Philips Lumea as I simply couldn't understand why I was putting myself through the absolute torture of a bikini wax. Its bloody agony, destroys my skin, and the hair grows back as quickly as other methods, I've noticed.

NancyJoan · 31/05/2018 15:43

BlueJava, try to find somewhere that offers Lycon wax. By far the least painful I’ve ever had.

murphys · 31/05/2018 15:55

Blue, I'm also not in UK and where I go used to use the chocolate wax. It was definitely far less painful than the aloe Vera one they have now. The rooibos one was in the middle pain wise. But I like this waxer but just not the aloe vera wax so much.

Lottapianos · 31/05/2018 15:58

Eleanor, how are you getting on with your Lumea? I've been using mine for about 9 months, and regrowth is definitely lighter, but I'm not seeing the dramatic change I was hoping for

FreeMantle · 31/05/2018 16:16

I didn't find it too bad. Did you trim the hair a bit first.

In fact I discovered I didn't mind a bit of warm wax on my bits Blush. Compared to other procedures ( pushing out babies, smear tests) it's a walk in the park.

FizzingWhizzbee · 31/05/2018 16:25

Please tell me they used hot/lycon wax (the stuff that goes on thick and then pulled off) and not strip wax (goes on thin, removed with cloth strips)?

Strip wax hurts sooooo much more! I've been getting hot wax for years, it's a bit ouchy, but it's fine. I accidentally booked strip wax once, decided to go ahead anyway because it needed doing and OH MY GOD it was horrific.

So if you do get it done again, do look for somewhere that does hot wax. It will cost a bit more but it is so worth it!

Hunter007 · 31/05/2018 17:08

I struggle with bikini waxing. Every time I get one I feel like the world's biggest mug. Like, on what planet do people pay others to pour hot wax on their most sensitive parts and rip the hair out? And then I think, the men are don't doing it and just feel ridiculous! Yet I always find myself going back a few months later....

yaffingale · 31/05/2018 17:41

I occasionally have it all waxed off. I don't find the pain too bad provided the use hot wax and give a good moisturise afterwards.

I don't tend to have it done now as I find the hairs that were under the skin and didn't get pulled out pop through within a couple of days, in my mind it kind of defeats the purpose of doing it

EdWinchester · 31/05/2018 17:45

I must have a high pain threshold.

I get a Hollywood and I am so busy nattering to the therapist, I barely notice the waxing.

She is a complete expert though and uses hot wax. Never go to anyone that uses strip wax, would be my sage advice.

bekindtobees · 31/05/2018 19:10

Does it cause break outs or rash? I'm going my holidays and really want to try this as I get bad shaving rashes and end up wearing shorts?

donaldtwerp · 31/05/2018 19:15

Oh no was it? I've got my first booked in a couple of weeks 😬😬😬

JDSTER · 31/05/2018 19:17

As others have said, hot wax all the way. Previously I was loathe to pay the extra for hot wax but I tried it once and would never go back to strip wax, which is indeed excruciating.

JDSTER · 31/05/2018 19:18

Also meant to say I used to get red pin-prick rash after strip wax but no irritation whatsoever with hot wax.
