cherries for hats you really need to try on to see what suits your face/style best. I like floppy big brimmed hats in really hot weather and on the beach and attach a pic of my latest purchase here to give you an idea of what I mean, this particular one I picked up at my local market for £10 Grin and its crochet style which is a bit different from my other wide brim straw hats...
I noticed Accesorise have a sale on and 20% off at the mo and they have lots of cheap beach bling, hats that you could try on? I really liked this cross body straw bag for hols though have not seen in RL:

Also have a look at ASOS for hats and pop into Zara as they seem to stock a lot of headgear at reasonable prices, I also quite like the turbans on this link as they only cover part of the head so would be a nice alternative when you don’t feel like wearing a hat or wig all day?

Hope this gives you some ideas, for sunglasses again it depends on your face rather than the fact that you’re shaved if that makes sense?

Forgot to add cherries I rate Boden for good quality sunglasses but only at sale price, I have a mix of high end and cheap ones as I get bored easily, but in fairness the high end ones give better vision and last forever...I love oversized but also suit cat eye styles and have seen Rayban are doing a really lovely take on the cats eyes which I’m now really tempted with Wink...I’ll try on at the airport on my next work trip 😎 again sunglasses are very much dependent on your face shape so do try on a few:

Thanks for the ideas, Soylo and Ella, will check these out.

I think I just feel I was absent the day the style genes were handed out. Many many threads ago, someone, (I think maybe never?) made a throw away remark about the length of necklace that would work with a certain outfit. She was right, and I was sort of ‘how did you know that?’ I might know AFTER I’ve made the expensive mistake, but never in advance. So for example, I’m looking at my face sans hair and have no idea if what I need are dangly earring or studs. I can’t work out if my build requires over scale necklaces or dainty stuff, and if they should be really long to go well past my boobs, or sit much higher up. I’m not sure if eg the panel maxis require a boho look or a plain silver chain.

And I now remember why I never accessorise! Now I’ve lost my fat my face and head are a symmetrical, average sized oval. No hairline does make my face look longer than it is, because it looks as if there is a lot of forehead. I’m clueless :(

dave, the dress is lovely on you. It does still look a bit big, I think, but it really suits you. Will look fabulous in Menorca

SoyYo · 06/06/2018 14:39

Oh cherries I understand what you mean Flowers but give yourself some credit as you do look great on all the outfits I’ve seen you in so far, how about asking DD on a shopping trip for accessories? If I was closer I’d be happy to come with you and have a giggly day trying on hats, necklaces and sunglasses.
One of the reasons I come to these threads is that my RL girlfriends are lovely but not remotely interested in fashion, in fact they think I’m a bit weird that way Grin but I’m no style guru either!
I find with necklaces and big boobs either really long past your boobs will draw attn away from them or shorter to sit below your collarbone but not on your boobs also work on me. I like semi precious crystal stones so most days wear a simple labradorite necklace which I’m emotionally attached to, but again I’m very fickle and have built quite a collection over the years to mix/match as the mood takes me.
For what’s in “fashion” it seems to be all those tassel style jewellery which is a bit boho but personally I’m not into it.
I don’t wear any jewellery to the beach (only my rings which I never take off anyway)
Unlike you I’ve got masses of crazy curls so I need a fair sized earring to see it at all and have a collection of nice hoops, feel guilty I hardly ever wear some beautiful diamond studs DH gave me as a wedding anniversary present because unless I put my hair up you can’t see them.
Since you’re challenged the other way round I’d say start with lovely dainty earrings if you’re going for the shaved look or sparkly studs (look at fake diamonds or Swarovski studs)
For arms I have a few leather Swarovski bracelets which I wear in bright colours on hols or the plain black version mostly going out in the evenings, maybe they’re not fashionable but I really like them, see the link (these are similar but not the same as the ones I own)
www.swarovski.com/Mob_GB/en/5217154/product/Slake_Pulse_Bracelet.html

Or to start simple with the necklaces and build up try a combination of similar chains (some with a pendant some plain) which you could wear stacked for the boho look or standalone for a more simple/pared down look? Maybe to combine with the Hush star necklace you already own?

If you’ve an oval face shape then a lot of different frame glasses will suit you, in summer I like really dark black frame and glass (mafiosi style Grin) or mirrorred glasses to bring in the changes in turquoise/blue and of course Cats Eyes which always look great IMHO.

Really don’t know if this helps but hope at least it’s food for thought. The most important thing to ask yourself as you try on jewellery/sunglasses is Do I feel good in it? Everything in the shops right now will be on trend anyway so it’s important you feel like “you” or an improved version of you if that makes sense Wink

SoyYo · 06/06/2018 14:50

cherries forgot to add with jewellery don’t add too much if you’re wearing print...IMHO if you’re wearing the black Alanis dress you can add a few necklaces or a bracelet stack as the dress is so plain but with a print/bright colours keep it more subtle with plain studs and a dainty chain necklace if that makes sense? Otherwise it’s just all too much and neither the bright colour/print or jewellery stands out...less is always more with prints and bright colours.

ilovecherries · 06/06/2018 16:57

Me too, Soylo, in fact I felt a bit down after this thread took a bit of a bashing yesterday on here, because it all just feels like a bit of lighthearted fun and talk that I don’t get irl. So much of my life my clothing focus was ‘does it fit/is it clean that I feel I’m doing exploration now that I stopped doing circa 1985. I seemed to go from 70s punk to a power suit with nothing in between. I’m really enjoying just messing about with clothes and talking about them for the first time in my life. I have ordered a pair of navy cats eye sunglasses from Boden with 25 off and I will gird my loins for a poke about Accesorise!

Ellapaella · 06/06/2018 17:01

@ilovecherries this thread took a bashing yesterday? What happened? Was it on here?

neveradullmoment99 · 06/06/2018 17:02

felt a bit down after this thread took a bit of a bashing yesterday on here I must have missed this! How come? I cant find anything on here about it.

OP posts:
neveradullmoment99 · 06/06/2018 17:03

Im the same Ella what happened?

OP posts:
Ellapaella · 06/06/2018 17:05

I don't know! Went over my head or didn't see anything on any other threads I was part of or reading.

Ellapaella · 06/06/2018 17:05

Am intrigued now...

ilovecherries · 06/06/2018 17:07

Oh, it wasn’t massive, just a bit of a swipe in passing really, but caught me in a bit of a meh moment about my hair. Which isn’t normally an issue for me, but now and again I have a bout of the ‘its not fairs’. I was feeling a bit sorry for myself and after reading it I felt a bit - I dunno - stupid and shallow, I think. It was on a thread where someone was asking about hush sizing initially but kind of changed focus.

neveradullmoment99 · 06/06/2018 17:07

Ive looked back and cant find anything like that.
Cherries...where are you????
Sounds intriguing, I agree!!!

OP posts:
neveradullmoment99 · 06/06/2018 17:08

Was it on another thread?
We all get those moments cherries
It is nice to be on this thread. I don't share anything like this in RL either.

OP posts:
ilovecherries · 06/06/2018 17:11

Yes, can’t get my bloody phone to link. It was actually someone asking for a referral code initially. Having re read it, I certainly must have been feeling a bit crap yesterday Grin. It’s called something like ‘about to place my first hush order’.

Ellapaella · 06/06/2018 17:14

I've just seen it. One of the posters on that thread has caught my eye a few times with snipey/spiteful remarks.. not just about this thread but on several other s & b threads. I wouldn't pay it any attention cherries.

ilovecherries · 06/06/2018 17:17

Clearly I was needing to give my head the proverbial wobble yesterday. Grin was really feeling monumentally sorry for myself. My internal dialogue went something like ‘I’m old, I’m completely bald, I can never eat another Krispy creme doughnut in my life, and now I’m shallow and strange as well. Wail.’ (Disclaimer - I never HAVE eaten a KCD so not sure why it became an issue!).

neveradullmoment99 · 06/06/2018 17:21

Nah. I just popped a post on there. Its a lot of nonsense. Don't bother with it.
We all hate things about ourselves cherries I have my stomach. I hate looking at the way my face is changing as I get older - who am I? I don't recognise myself. It depressed me when I turned 50 and someone said that it was all downhill from now on.

OP posts:
neveradullmoment99 · 06/06/2018 17:23

I think sharing ideas about clothes on here is a bit like when you had friends at school and you shared what you were wearing to go out or make up etc. It is fun and lighthearted.

OP posts:
SoyYo · 06/06/2018 18:10

Oh cherries I totally get how you feel, I popped in to answer with the refer me code and then saw all those uncalled for remarks...I did answer as politely as possible because I know how mean people can get on some of these threads but hope I stood up for all the lovely people who post here and really wtf? I’m a lot more feisty in RL but there are some toxic people just making bitchy remarks for no reason, and couldn’t be bothered to start a long discussion—cat fight—.
I disappeared off MN for that reason for a few years and only posted on this thread after quite a long time lurking and observing the interactions and seeing how truly welcoming and fun everyone was (and my shared love of Hush) I only then started contributing.
S&B should be fun and lift our spirits and not yet another reason to bring people down, know that you are a huge inspiration to all of us here and never let it dent your hard won confidence Flowers
This thread is the Only place I discuss fashion as I said before I have great girlfriends but we share other interests which are non S&B related so without you lot I’d be boring myself to tears with my fashion dilemmas Wink

clownfaces · 06/06/2018 18:53

Cherries You are amazing. You were exceptionally brave in the way that you dealt with the alopecia and you really rock a wig. You look fab in all your pics, and I think it's a shame that a thread has made you feel so low. Good luck hunting for your accessories.

Ella the pink dress looks lovely now that it's ironed Grin

clownfaces · 06/06/2018 18:53

Sorry, that was for Dave

SoyYo · 06/06/2018 18:54

SoyYo · 06/06/2018 18:57

Oh yes and one more thing I think you are a very pretty woman, I mean that seeing your pics it’s hard to believe you are the age you say you are.

Right off to peruse and use that discount 🙌

DavetheCat2001 · 06/06/2018 19:17
