Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

I like the this works sleep spray, it's comforting

Jozxyqk · 21/05/2018 21:03

I also like This Works spray. I got some as a free sample & need to purchase some more - where's the cheapest place to buy it?

princessbear80 · 21/05/2018 21:07

Thanks @SallieSallow and @botemp.

Okay I’ll steer clear of the Olay serum then, thanks for the warning. Any recommendations for a serum that has all the good stuff in?

And I’ll introduce retinol earlier, was thinking of the LRP night cream, is that a good one to start with?

botemp · 21/05/2018 21:08

Lookfantastic always has at least 15% off, pretty sure they stock This Works.

I also love the This Works spray. My mum always has it in her spare room, I always get a good night sleep there! I also love this one from Neals Yard, but I think it’s geranium rather than lavender www.nealsyardremedies.com/aromatherapy/aromatherapy-oils-and-blends/home-fragrance/5008.html

According to an official "Frezyderm" answer to a question on Amazon, the only difference between the body and the face SPF50 is the fragrance added to the former.

I'll wait and see if bo's forensic INCI analysis bears that out...

botemp · 21/05/2018 22:41

They are pretty much identical, the order of the last ingredients are somewhat different but nothing monumentally different. Annoying on the fragrance front as I find the pump on the Frezyderm quite annoying and would much prefer a tube.

enid Flowers I've only just seen your earlier post, not sure how I managed to miss it before.

Jozxyqk · 21/05/2018 23:04

Fabulous, thanks Botemp. Ordered. Accidentally ordered makeup too. An eyeliner & blusher l particularly like. Oops... Blush

BlessYawnBless · 21/05/2018 23:33

Well my first trial of Frezyderm went very well. I think it could be just what I was looking for - something that can work well under make up so that on work days when I need to be outside with clients I can still look polished (ha!) but am safe in the sun. Pleased with it so far!

I had been disappointed that the LRP Toleriane Fluide non greasy had been discontinued. It was a good daytime moisturiser for me in the warmer months.
I used my last bottle of it yesterday and today for the first time this year and it's actually no good for my skin now. The last year has seen my skin 'mature' very quickly and it's not rich enough now. So I'm on the lookout for something a bit richer but not too heavy or oily.

Pupsiecola · 21/05/2018 23:34

Are people ignoring my questions on purpose Shock?! I shall not be deterred lol:-

  1. Does anyone know what UVA rating the Frezyderm is?

2.What retinols are people using please? Has anyone tried the REN ones?

REN cream

REN oil

Thank you muchly in advance. I am going to bed, every hopeful, and shall check back in the morning Grin.

EnidButton · 22/05/2018 01:10

Thank you bo I love lavender and I have some of the This Works spray, I think I got some after Olli mentioned way back in thread 2 or something. I'd totally forgotten about it so thank you. Flowers I'll spray a bit now. If I don't start to drift off by 3 I'll just take another sleepease. So very sorry anyone has had to go through this, it's horrendous.

💗💗 Tant

EnidButton · 22/05/2018 01:12

Pupsie I know zero about retinol so cant help but I admire your determination 😊

mintmagnummm · 22/05/2018 06:25

Bless try eucerin 5% urea day cream (not night cream version) it's the one in a tube.

mintmagnummm · 22/05/2018 06:26

Pupsie sorry I can't answer your questions either :-(

Oh and Enid xxxxx

botemp · 22/05/2018 06:34
Grin

I'll answer later but I already addressed the UVA question somewhat when mint asked about it a few days back. And without seeing it yet, REN usually promises things they can't possibly deliver.

Tsmummy08 · 22/05/2018 07:22

Pupsie I can't answer the Ren questions but wanted to pop in and say I didn't particularly like the LRP Double repair either - something about the texture feeling a little gritty... I'm using it up but won't RP when it finally comes to the UK.

Retinols - I'm switching to a low % retinol from my tret over the summer as I can't tolerate it even with high SPF. Bo suggested A313 cream which is a .2% retinol and would just be to keep my vit A usage ticking over until the Autumn (you said LRP was .2 or .3%?). If you wanted to increase to.5% Retriderm do a 0.5% Retinol (from Facethefuture.com), which I used before stepping up to SC Retinol 1% (which made my face fall off).

Tsmummy08 · 22/05/2018 07:26

Sallie I use Hourglass blush in Mood Exposure - I'm also sallow of complexion :) Stephanie Nicole loves it too, often wears it in her videos I believe.

Talking of Hourglass I have £15 that needs spending at SpaceNK and was going to get an Hourglass powder - I use Dim light in the Ambient Lighting palette often, what's the one that's slightly lighter than that? Diffused light? Wondering if it's too light for me...

Pupsiecola · 22/05/2018 07:31

Wow! Thanks guys!

Enid I hope you managed some sleep. I have the This Works Pillow Spray. And the Neal's Yard Roller Ball. I also have an oral Vitamin D spray from Better You which I use just before bed.

Tsmummy08 · 22/05/2018 08:01

Pupsie I would have answered before but was frantically reading through pages this morning as this thread is moving so quickly... I'm spending more time on my Bodybuilding/weightlifting groups... and actually doing my PhD work lol

SophieLion · 22/05/2018 08:13

💕💕 Enid.
I also have the This Works lavender spray. Used it last night actually. Can't say I slept particularly well actually but my hair smelt nice this morning Smile
*
Pupsie - I haven't used Ren and am now using tret but when I was looking into retinol (or similar) a while back, I was thinking to start with the Medik8 3TR serum (and then build my way up) and possibly the Verso eye cream. I was also interested in the Medik8 product (the r-retinoate one) that Bo* was/is using and had sent the updates about.

Tsmummy - a PhD! How exciting! Must be a lot of work but so worth it. My dream... when all the DCs have grown up. I love studying.

SophieLion · 22/05/2018 08:33

My friend had a similar experience to Tsmummy with the SkinCeuticals 1% Retinol.

BlessYawnBless · 22/05/2018 08:57

I'm learning about retinols or retinoids or whatever they're called too. I do have a serum but never really used it consistently and I've had it a few months now so it may have lost its efficacy. So I'm reading along.

Enid Flowers

I have a pink patch the size and shape of a 2p piece in the middle of my forehead! I missed a bit when I was applying my Frezyderm Blush. It didn't show up last night after I'd cleansed but a couple of hours later there it was. It's not sore or anything and has served a purpose - to remind me I need to be just a bit more attentive with the F than with heavier white sunscreens.
