Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

MARCH 2018: We managed to live through hairmageddon without any major losses. We welcomed some new inquisitive faces, reunited with some much missed old ones, and are delighted at the thought of a baby snail on its way. Now, all we need is the weather to start cooperating and match the levity in our moods…

Used my avene spf 50 this morn and no stinging eyes.

TantricTwist · 07/05/2018 11:33

I used my LRP antihelios yesterday and my eyes stung for ages after, whereas the day before they were fine.

I have to be more mindful when applying it.

mintmagnummm · 07/05/2018 12:29

Horrible isn't it tant. The frezyderm definitely made my eyes sting and water

miffy2 · 07/05/2018 13:35

Day 1 with Frezeyderm and my face looks fab. I applied NARS TM but left about 20 mins in between SPF and TM. Not sure how I will manage that on a workday but I till do my best.

It is only lunchtime but my makeup looks glowy yet unmoved, if you get me. Normally I have patches of foundation moving at this time of the day. Plus I spent the morning rushing round a shopping centre with two teens, so I am well impressed!

Enid thinking of you, I can only imagine how rough it is. I am dreading the day my own parents fall terminally ill. My mum had breast cancer 4+ years ago and it was bloody scary for all of us. Thankfully she got through it but it is always at the back of my mind that next time might not be so easy. :( hugs to all.

I hope to do my empties etc very soon.

EnidButton · 07/05/2018 13:37

I hate photos Tant. They do lie and make people look worse than in real life. At least it's something you can fix if you want to. You can totally do it.

EnidButton · 07/05/2018 13:37

Thank you Miffy Flowers

Sophie was it you who said your spf seemed to run when it was frezyderm?

SophieLion · 07/05/2018 14:08

"tiny lovely people who live in my phone" - that's so cute Enid! Anyway good to hear you had a nice day with your DH and enjoyed the weather. Ironically we had a terrible weekend here weather-wise: torrential rain. And last week was beach weather...Hmm

Oh Tant. It's horrible seeing photos of yourself that you don't like. But I find (and hope!) that photos are often not representative of what we really look like. I’m sure you don’t look as bad as you think. Saying that, if you’re going for weight loss then I hope it all goes wellThanks

Odd for me to hear that the Frezyderm SPF causes you eye irritation Mint as I have super-sensitive eyes and not had a problem. Funny how everyone reacts so differently to things. It did run in one eye one day though and stung A LOT - do you think yours could be dripping down? I have found that the Frezyderm is not great when it's very hot and I'm sweaty from sports (although a friend here doesn't have that problem). So yes it was me who said that! But I’ve noticed it mainly when playing sports. Perhaps you can try gently wiping just under/on eyebrows with a tissue after you apply to make sure you don’t have excess cream there. I do that a lot as can’t have things dripping in my eyes...

Thanks JDSTER and Bo for the differin info. I’ve heard Dr Sam talk about Adapalene for acne but didn’t realise it was a retinoid too. So much to learn Smile

EnidButton · 07/05/2018 14:15

We must have stolen the sun for the weekend Sophie

Looking good Olli. Beautiful hair!

TantricTwist · 07/05/2018 14:26

Yes it's horrible mint esp when you have to slap on your makeup and rush out of the house to catch a train Grin my eyes my eyes

TantricTwist · 07/05/2018 14:36

I decided to go for it exercise wise earlier to stop saggy skin all over whilst I sort out my Healthy eating plan so I started off with some sit ups, core pilates and bicep curls and then suddenly my body / mind actually craved to go on my dusty unloved elliptical trainer (must have been the endorphins) and instead of the 10 mins I was aiming for I ended up on it for 10k at 30 mins Halo probably because I was watching CH interview with Ian Marber.

It's been really sunny here this weekend, loving this extra day off it's such a treat Smile

mintmagnummm · 07/05/2018 16:48

Sophie yes that is odd! However I am very strange indeed when it comes to product reactions as most on here already know lol but as your relatively new I'll forgive you for thinking I'm 'normal' 😂😂. I could wipe after applying but as I don't seem to get the problem with avene I'll prob just stick with that for now. I did love the way the frezyderm left no residue at all but at the same time I'm not a fan of things that feel very siliconey and my skin doesn't seem to like it either so I did feel a bit anxious while wearing it, it almost feels like it doesn't sink into the skin but just leaves a silicone coating on the top as when I wiped a bit of my skin after it felt like is wiped it off if that even makes sense?! 🤔🤪.

mintmagnummm · 07/05/2018 16:49

Tant what is an elliptical trainer??

miffy2 · 07/05/2018 16:59

Weirdly enough I just checked my face in the mirror and I think my frezyderm/NARS TM combo might have oxidised a bit. I am looking a tad darker than I did earlier. I shall continue to try it out with my other foundations in the coming week.

Neutral accents. You're all images rather than noises. Grin No-one is Northern except JD who has a bit of a geordie accent in my head. It's my fave.

I am feeling bloated, blinding white, wobbling, frizzy and frumpy. Yay, Summer. 🙄

Brace yourselves for a list of makeup buys which usually comes when I feel like this.

EnidButton · 07/05/2018 18:58

My nails look good though.

botemp · 07/05/2018 19:23

JDSTER was on Geordie Shore ShockShockShock

Actually I have a neutral accent, or so I'm told. Same in Dutch, and I'm often complimented on not sounding like a foreigner in other languages. I'm positively dull in the accent department.

Hold on, images... Have you been perving again photoshopping my lips onto other faces and hanging them in a dimly lit basement [santa]

OP posts:
EnidButton · 07/05/2018 19:35

I've drawn pictures and hung them around my cellar like someone off a Danish crime noir Netflix show.

Disclaimer: I do not have a cellar. they're in the loft

SophieLion · 07/05/2018 20:11

Mint an elliptical trainer is one of those machines in the gym which works your legs and arms simultaneously. There's poles like ski poles which you pull and push and you kind of walk/climb with your legs at the same time. it's for cardio mainly.
Argh... that's a terrible description! don't like the gym really and more of a treadmill girl anyway.

TantricTwist · 07/05/2018 20:23

Yes Sophies right its also know as a cross trainer mint I added it onto My Fitness Pal where it was down as elliptical which is why it was on my mind as that.

I really like it because it doesnt hammer my back like running would, it's smoother to use and I can watch TV whist on it because it's in my house. Its a very nice robust, smooth and quiet one. It's got Spire and York written on it if anyone is remotely interested.

Anyway the endorphines not only seem to have supressed my appetite a bit but I was able to spend a few hours writing half of a very long boring report. Hopefully my skin will benefit too.
