Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

A Damaged Skin Barrier - Now What?

MARCH 2018: We managed to live through hairmageddon without any major losses. We welcomed some new inquisitive faces, reunited with some much missed old ones, and are delighted at the thought of a baby snail on its way. Now, all we need is the weather to start cooperating and match the levity in our moods…

Miffy I do it using one of those eyebrow razors (that no-one actually uses for eyebrows) It works well. Quick, no extra dark or thick regrowth.

I'd do it every week but find unless the razor is very fresh, it can cause spots. After 3 uses really I should buy new ones but that doesn't seem very good value.

Do like it and impressed at how easy it is but I'd say anyone prone to spots around chin and jaw do have to be extra careful everything is very clean and the razor thing isn't at all blunt.

EnidButton · 01/05/2018 17:29

The beach Sophie! 🏖 I'm in the bath trying to warm up. It's so chilly here in the nw of England.

TantricTwist · 01/05/2018 17:32

Frezy has won awards so it should be fine spf wise

EnidButton · 01/05/2018 17:42

Has anyone ever tried arnica cream for bruises? Does it actually work? I'm not one for herbal stuff usually but it seems popular.

Just notice another bruise on my arm. No idea how I'm managing to whack my limbs on things and not notice! 🙄

mintmagnummm · 01/05/2018 17:54

Aww sorry miffy I'll be grateful for Thursday then!

MRSD it bloody better be special 😂

SophieLion · 01/05/2018 19:07

I'm the same Enid. Often spot bruises and not sure how I got them! I use Arnica cream although mainly on the DCs if they get bruises. Not sure if it makes them go quicker but the DCs like having cream (and plasters!) put on Grin

Yes it was hot today and a public holiday as 1st May so we headed for the beach. As did most of Athens I think....

SophieLion · 01/05/2018 19:09

Silly question and maybe already answered but is Frezyderm only available online in the UK? Not in any shops?

SallieSallow · 01/05/2018 19:14

The frezyderm (sorry Mint!) is amazing the way it completely disappears on the skin, it must be up to the job though given that it's widely used in Greece. And Sophie is using it over there and hasn't burnt. Trust the frezyderm Grin Grin Grin

Miffy is that hourglass veil the same powder that Beautylish are enabling me about? Based on your review I'm very tempted but will wait for the ambient palette first, I'm getting all Mint like impatient about that now.

miffy2 · 01/05/2018 19:19

Sallie yes I think it is, it is brand new and as a magpie/sheep hybrid I was so very tempted (I was also in the market for a new loose powder). It is definitely not matte on me which is good. I will see how it goes on over less dewy-finish spfs in the coming days. Might try just the NARS TM tomorrow as it has spf30 and I won't be outdoors much.

MrsDOnofrio · 01/05/2018 19:24

The first real test of the frezyderm will be an afternoon at the cricket. Have to say that it is far superior to any other facial sunscreen I’ve tried; it could be my holy grail.

mintmagnummm · 01/05/2018 19:41

I bet I'll be the only one who says I don't like frezyderm knowing me 😂😂 really hope not though! You ladies have really built it up and now I'm very excited 😆 I'll end up ordering 100 tubes if I like it for fear of it being out of stock 😂.

Breaking out quite a bit at the mo which is annoying!

mintmagnummm · 01/05/2018 20:50

Is it ok to use two different conditioners on diff parts of hair at same time??

MrsDOnofrio · 01/05/2018 21:03

I don’t see why not mint. If different sections of your hair have differing needs then it makes sense to treat them with what they need. That said, I have very short hair and don’t use conditioner so you can take what I say with a large pinch of salt

SallieSallow · 01/05/2018 21:11

Sophie frezyderm is on line only here, just on amazon and frezyderm's own website as far as I know, that was all that came up when I googled it anyway.

Mint yes I'd say that's fine and sensible if your hair has different needs in different parts.

JDSTER · 01/05/2018 21:28

Ok, so I tried frezyderm for the first time this morning. It’s very much like a silicone gel primer. I’ve stopped using a primer so I was a bit Hmm about it. It leaves skin matte, like a primer but I wasn’t any less oily today, in fact possibly a bit shinier than yesterday when I used usual spf. The jury is out for me. First impression is I don’t like it as much as Biore brightening milk I use.

mint definitely use two conditioners if that works for you. A bit like Enid’s “patchwork face mask” you can have patchwork conditioner Grin.

mintmagnummm · 01/05/2018 21:40

Great thanks ladies 👍🏻x

Oh no I'm very nervous about frezyderm as all of you are saying it's like a silicone primer as my skin doesn't like silicone, well it doesn't like the cyclo one but I think it's just dimethicone in the spf which I think I'm ok with! ('Think' being the operative word!). Although the cyclo one is actually in the itcosmetics cc cream and the nars tm but it's not the top 2 ingredients which I think makes a difference 🤔

mintmagnummm · 01/05/2018 21:41

Do any of you get little whiteheads that you can literally just scratch off?

SallieSallow · 01/05/2018 21:59

Mint I used to get those little whiteheads all the time, in my case it was caused by heavy duty anti ageing moisturisers that were blocking my pores, or had ingredients in that my skin didn't like (Elemis was a major culprit). I still get them occasionally but they are fairly rare now and usually if I've been travelling or had a lot of late nights and my routine has slipped. That being said I had a couple today on my chin today when I got in from work and I really, really hope it's not the frezyderm Shock

JDSTER I don't like the slippy silicone feel of frezyderm either but given how fast it sinks in I can cope with it. I'm a bit worried now it might be blocking my pores though Sad and I can't use Biore anymore (more sadness) as it makes me dry/peely/flaky.

Ollivander84 · 01/05/2018 22:36

Huge horrendous acne breakout here. On my chin and above lip and side of nose
Bastard periods Angry

Picked up nip fab kale moisturiser in TK today, £6. My skin usually loves it so hopefully it will help, it's my favourite moisturiser I've tried

Jozxyqk · 01/05/2018 23:09

Mint - when my hair was very long (I could sit on my plait) I used to use 2 types if conditioner for every wash. As the last couple of feet of hair was several years old, therefore needed lots of care. It definitely helps. Go for it!

SophieLion · 02/05/2018 08:02

Thanks Sallie. Hope the Frezyderm isn't blocking your pores.

I'm also under the impression that the Frezyderm SPF runs more that my Avene did when I'm exercising/playing sport. It's hard to tell if it's sweat or SPF to be honest! But I'm sure I didn't have "sweat" running down my face with the Avene. Anyone else?

mintmagnummm · 02/05/2018 08:24

I've got hump with everything at mo! Skin misbehaving, scalp misbehaving and hair not going right!!

TantricTwist · 02/05/2018 08:52

My skins gone a bit wierd this morning. Small dry patches. I washed and cleansed it last night after feeling hot and bothered after the pub and tbh wish I had just done my usual bioderma micellar water. I didn't use any actives. Time for some cicaplast. I only had half a pint and tons of water, but it was very warm in there.

TantricTwist · 02/05/2018 14:48

My forehead is in a very confused Confused state still Hmm

mintmagnummm · 02/05/2018 17:52

My whole face is in a bit of a state! My skin looks so textured I hate it
