i've also used Allbeauty a lot and never once had a problemw ith them, no fakes, no damaged goods, everythings been perfect

pineapple for very intense moisturiser, you could try Diprobase lotion or ointment. the ointment is VERY oily, the moisturiser in the pump bottles less so. You have to ask for it from behind the counter in boots or similar. I don't know how much it is but i don't think it's especially cheap but a little goes a very long way. I get mine on prescription as i have bad skin issues and it does really help with how dry i get

MrsGruber · 04/04/2018 00:21

4160s/OML are doing GoRo mouse repellent and SoDoCloMo moth repellent Grin

Quick post about moisturiser, DS has eczema so for years I've used his reject emoillients. They are all (obviously) really good moisturisers and aren't scented. Along with Aveeno and Diprobase I regularly use E45 (cheap as chips) or Dermol500. There are others available.

mrsreynolds · 04/04/2018 07:52

My dh and ds1 have quite bad atopic excema.
In fact ds1 is just at the end of a flare up.
E45...be careful. It has lanolin in. Ds2 is allergic to it!
Diprobase is ok but very oily in an unpleasant way.
I don't use scented body lotions. Just aveeno. Maybe that's where I'm going wrong?
I also like nivea body lotion.
Sotd...hmm. it's actually sunny here today! I might give the PP PP a go 😁

mrsreynolds · 04/04/2018 07:59

The aveeno spray oil is good too

Calmwhoknows · 04/04/2018 08:16

aubergine, I started off on my perfume journey by being in complete awe of many of the Fragrantica reviewers, who seem able to dissect a perfume to the nth degree. I’ve come to realise now that the most important thing is whether you enjoy the smell! Also I suspect (1) that the reviewers look up the notes first, and (2) that the perfume manufacturers are very choosy about which notes they publish.

So, I do what suits me best in the enjoyment of my hobby. If I can learn what the notes are that I am particularly liking (or not), then that helps me to decide if a new perfume is going to be worth trying. Although I do also enjoy testing off-the-wall perfumes as well!

I have learned that it is best to take my time in testing perfumes. I try not to impulse buy (don’t always succeed!). For me the ideal way of testing a sample is to give a good spray on the outside of each wrist and then to sit down, close my eyes and really think about what it is I’m smelling. I write down impressions. This can be notes I have managed to pick out or more often an idea of what it reminds me of, eg walking on grass, a flower shop, the inside of a book. I check at intervals to see if and how the perfume is changing. At some stage I will look at the notes. Often the published notes are different to those I have smelled! And sometimes I see in the published notes something that I didn’t understand when smelling. For instance in one of the Big Sniff perfumes, there was a fruity perfumey smell. It wasn’t until I looked it up that I realised it was passion fruit! But if the notes had said star fruit or something, would I have “realised” it was that? Who knows?

mrsreynolds · 04/04/2018 08:34

4610s have arrived!
Rome 1963. Nope.
Who knew? This really reminds of another 4610...MNND? It's bugging me!
sunshine and pancakes...lovely. really unusual but I like it.
Nothing I would buy an fb of. Sexiest scent still the only 4610 for me ❤

positivepineapple · 04/04/2018 08:36

This is about the fourth place I have heard Aveno mentioned in about a week now - think I have to try it. Thank you all!

DH has eczema on his hands so we have an abundance of diprobase, cetroban etc and I do borrow a bit for my hands occasionally, never tried it as body lotion.

Puppylucky · 04/04/2018 08:50

Calm I love your approach to testing perfumes and capturing sensory associations not just notes and will be emulating Smile

mrsreynolds · 04/04/2018 08:57

Half the time I can't smell the notes in perfumes anyway 😁
I look at fragratica notes sometimes and I think...what??

MrsGruber · 04/04/2018 09:12

MrsR - you've nudged me. SotD is Rome 1963 (its first spray of 2018. As it's heady and aromatic it's a good pick for wet, cold spring days).

A hit with me as I do love 4160s tobacco notes, combined here with (non-screechy) cedar, jasmine and tuberose. Fans of Jasmin et Cigarettes might like to try this for a different sort of tobacco and jasmine pairing; this is rounded and voluptuous, where J&C is stripped back and spare. (I was really slow to find my way to this, (didn't sound like my thing), but it's one of my favourites now).

This doesn't smell like Seville a L'Aube, but they belong in a similar category? And this reminds me, how did we get through Easter Week without someone breaking out the Seville a L'Aube? Easter Shock

mrsreynolds · 04/04/2018 09:17

😁 nudge nudge

I don't like tobacco notes. Maybe that's what I dislike? Right up my mum's street though 😁

Happy to pass on the S&P and who knew if anyone wants them?

I think fancy is my EFT and bluebell
and I like similar notes?

I really must decide what I'm doing today...ds1 is off to his sports club.
Ds2 is already on the ps4 so I'll have to nip that in the bud in a minute...

auberginesrus · 04/04/2018 09:36

Hmm I don't think Rome 1963 would be for me - I like tobacco, cedar and Jasmine but have discovered I have an aversion to tuberose - not so much heady as headache inducing on me. I like Jasmin et Cigarette because it is pared down (and it reminds me of my misspent youth Grin)

UnnecessaryFennel · 04/04/2018 09:37

SOTD Byzantium Saffron courtesy of the lovely liberty. This is divine. Love it - leather and saffron. Agree with sock that the opening has quite a medicinal air; it's quite balsamic on me but that's fine! Starts to dry down quite quickly to something softer and sweeter, really lovely.

Could be FB-worthy for me - damn you liberty, what have you done? Grin

judy hope the dentist is ok, fingers crossed for you

calm I didn't get on with Yesterday Haze at all but having tried and liked another couple of IA scents I am keen to try O, Unknown! - it sounds fab from your description.

mrsreynolds · 04/04/2018 09:49

Good luck at the dentist judy 💐

UnnecessaryFennel · 04/04/2018 09:55

Just seen that the Merchant of Venice do a trial kit... £30 and free shipping...be rude not to, wouldn't it?

UnnecessaryFennel · 04/04/2018 10:20

The Tauer minis have landed, complete with handwritten card and gorgeous silver Tauer ribbon.

Can't sample yet as am drenched in Byzantium Saffron (may have bought the trial kit) but as always the little silver box is a thing of beauty.

mrsreynolds · 04/04/2018 10:33

Sotd PP Paloma Picasso
Lovely

OCSockOrphanage · 04/04/2018 10:40

Having just survived a bout of atopic eczema, and buying a ton of unguents to relieve it, my recs would be the Aveeno Baby range, Topicrem (which is prescribed for eczema in France and was developed by a doctor for his son) and Bioderma Atoderm itch relief spray. Topicrem is good during the day because it's milkier and easily absorbed, the Aveeno was fantastic at night, and the spray good anytime it flared. Plus antihistamines, and cotton sweaters to replace my normal winter Uniqlo cashmere V necks... it was expensive, so no scent last month, except Girl!

teta · 04/04/2018 11:57

Fennel I’ve just bought that sample kit too on Amazon. Merchant of Venice perfumes have not really been on my radar but I’m fascinated by Murano glass. When we visited Murano one of the smaller workshops said their biggest customer was Tk Maxx. I think it can be quite hard to make a living there. They were selling delicate hand blown horses that they made in front of us for very little money. Its such an art. And the perfume bottles are stunning.

UnnecessaryFennel · 04/04/2018 12:43

teta I love Murano glass as well - bought some gorgeous earrings there a couple of years ago which I adore. The bottles are stunning and if Byzantium is anything to go by the scents will be interesting too. Looking forward to the sample set!

Nipped into town to run some errands and may have bought MG Cherry. Not even sure I'm going to like it but gotta collect the set! Grin #hopeless

mrsreynolds · 04/04/2018 13:04

Just picked up more new bedding and curtains for downstairs...
Sadly they are the wrong shade so will be going back
I had a very delicate murano perfume bottle years ago.
Didn't survive the kids sadly :(

auberginesrus · 04/04/2018 14:07

SOTD is Miller Harris Terre d'Iris. Inoffensive powdery iris but nothing special.

auberginesrus · 04/04/2018 15:13

Although actually the dry down is lovely.

WhateverTakesYaFancy · 04/04/2018 15:28

Hi all. Just making a cuppa and will catch up on thread.

Still feeling really under the weather, but managed a trip in to the West End today to look for a dress for my sisters wedding. Very depressing trip as a) found one paltry dress that looked even passable out of about 20 tried on and b) I realised that I have definitely gone up a dress size .

Ah well. Had a bit of a sniff of a few perfumes in HoF/Debenhams. Nothing exciting, just things I'd never tried.

TF Orchid Soleil. Urgh...not for me. A sort of dusty, chemical tuberose and gardenia to my nose and SO strong. I was looking for the Soleil Blanc, but they didn't have it.

TF Neroli Portofino. Pleasant, but the sort of thing I'd like a laundry detergent to smell of. Not so much my skin.

Chanel Gabrielle. Finally got round to sniffing this and I liked a lot. I totally get all the 'just another boring white floral' reviews, but I found it quite fresh and citrusy and something I'd happily wear for Spring, if not groundbreaking. Got a lot of neroli from it and it reminded me of a slightly sweeter Chloe Love Story, so not FB worthy as already have that. But not the minger I was expecting.

Also realised that I have never sniffed Coco Mademoiselle, apparently The Worlds Most Popular Perfume Grin and not exactly new, so gave that a try and I liked it. I can see why its so popular. Inoffensive, warm, pretty. I have to say, I'd consider a FB (eBay used only, though, obvs Grin
