Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

FEBRUARY 2018: The month of February sucks. Period. We’re sick of winter and the state of our finances, some are embracing frugality (in different shapes and forms) but water bills and car maintenance are ruining our buzz. Hair appointments need to be made despite the palpitations of fear that the mere thought incites. Oh, and skin texture. As you were...

pupsie that’s a bit rubbish it fell apart. Mine is an aromatherapy associates one I got free from VH when I purchased something else (back when they used to offer great gifts). No idea what it retails for. Also got a Sarah chapman facial exerciser gizmo, also free from VH when you bought one Sarah Chapman product.

My skin is looking a bit rubbish today, I thought this morning. Pre menstrual and been away this week so diet not been great. I used BHA this morning and I’ll do a clay face mask tonight. I forgot to say thanks Bo for offer of sample of Vichy clay mask but no need. It’s not too pricey a product so I’ll get some once I’m through my other face masks, which may be some time Hmm.

Snowing here which is depressing, mid March.

SallieSallow · 17/03/2018 15:13

Pupsie I originally saw the jade roller on cult beauty, it was £20ish but sold out/on waitlist only, I couldn't find them anywhere else other than amazon and Ebay.

SophieLion · 17/03/2018 16:12

Tant and Pupsie, which product in particular are you talking about that caused peeling around the eyes? Sorry I've got a bit lost. The retinol you're using?

SophieLion · 17/03/2018 16:16

Yes let us know how you find the Verso eye cream Pupsie as I'm interested in possibly purchasing it.

How do you find the LRP Redermic too Pupsie? That's just eyes isn't it?

Pupsiecola · 17/03/2018 16:45

I'm thinking about this one:-

www.cultbeauty.co.uk/ying-yu-rollers-jade-facial-roller-double.html

Sophie I sent Tant two retinols that were too strong for me; Paula's Choice 1% and a Neo Strata one. I believe she's only tried the Neo Strata so far, and that's what she's talking about.

The LRP do a retinol for the face, and one specifically for the eyes. I have both. I am using the face one every few nights and am going to try to get to every other night for a while, before trying a stronger one. I may have to accept though that the LRP is as strong as I can go. I'd like to stick with it. I'm 48 so it's more than preventative, and I have early, but well managed, rosacea. My skin is a lot less sensitive than it used to be, but obviously need to be careful with the retinol. I've bookmarked this as a potential:-

skinpep.com/ultra-retinol-0-5-serum/

I'm not sure if anyone else has tried it? Not up for buying anything just yet, but would ilke some options if anyone has any recommendations...

SallieSallow · 17/03/2018 17:21

Pupsie that's the original roller I saw but it's on waitlist only.

I couldn't use LRP redermic for eyes, it made mine sting. I didn't use it to near my eyes (just crows feet) but it seemed to migrate.

I've not tried that Skinpep retinol but I think Bo has said it could be a good choice. I have their HA serum and am unsure, I haven't reacted to it but I don't think it works as well for me as hylamide subq.

Tantpoke · 17/03/2018 19:27

What the difference between a jade roller, the body shop one and the Sarah Chapman one for instance?

I have no clue which is why I'm asking.

JDSTER · 17/03/2018 19:29

This is a random and very broad question but what apps do you have on your phone? Anything recommended? I’ve got a new phone and I’m thinking I should add some more apps for me (instead of kids games Hmm) but I don’t know where to start. It doesn’t have to be S&B related.

Skinfulnappies46 · 17/03/2018 19:34

Watching with interest olli. Started CG in January and been amazed at results so far despite my over coloured ,straightened hair. I am growing out a Pixie cut.just using products from boots and Superdrug and no complaints yet. Have seen trepadora get great results!

Tantpoke · 17/03/2018 20:05

RosieLig · 17/03/2018 21:19

I’m such a sheep, I bought the Verso Super Eye Serum off the back of this thread! How often are you all using it? Not much info on the packaging. Cult Beauty site says mornings and night....

Will report back on progress....

yongnian · 17/03/2018 21:35

Thanks y’all...minimal skincare has been happening (gasp) but looking forward to soothing my skin back to normal now I feel several notches more human....inspired by the recent jade roller talk, I dug mine back out...have had a horrid sore red face with this tonsillitis thing so it was helpful.
Oh, a question....milia.....? Anyone know how long they take to disperse? Under-eye, so not game enough to try to extract manually....

What do people think about Tiffany Masterson's theory about skin types? If you don't want to watch the whole thing, it's from 15 minutes. (She is the founder of Drunk Elephant. She believes that skin types are born of the types of product we have used on our skin).

mintmagnummm · 18/03/2018 12:18

Don't know whether to try my bha just on t zone and only 1x week 🤔.

That vid is making me want everything drunk elephant! 🙄. All brands sound like the best thing since sliced bread tho and reviews just show you that what works miracles for some are epic fails for others!
