Welcome to the long running perfume thread. Discuss Scent of the Day, fave dupes and scents of ALL price brackets. You don’t have to spend a fortune and we will encourage you to get a sample first. That said, hiding your credit card in the freezer is recommended.

Old thread

We also have managed to get a 20% discount on a Perfume Society box and are discussing it on The Big Sniff.

My no thought scent is flowerbomb. A lovely big puff of flowers and does what it says on the label. Lol. Sexiest Scent was SOTD today. Thanks for that link MrsP. I may indulge just a little.

Soooo looking forward to my Selfridges morning on Saturday. Browsing the beauty hall at the Bullring until I go nose blind and then a facial at Suqqu. Downside is being ignored at MAC and Charlotte Tillbury, cos I’m not young and sparkly anymore. DS is trying to wangle an invite so I can feed him at yo sushi, but he’s a gannet and eats a fb worth of salmon.

SoFancy · 06/02/2018 21:16

I put 7 x samples in my bag on Perfumista, as I’ve been dying to try some Tauers and Frederic Malles...but didn’t check out.

No perfume until March! That’s my story and I’m sticking to it Grin. Must stay strong.

SoFancy · 06/02/2018 21:19

Always good to share, Janet! I’m not a Mon Guerlain fan, but there are a few pink mingers I love ...so always on the look out for bargains of all kinds Grin

SoFancy · 06/02/2018 21:22

Elise, I was given Flowerbomb as a present a few years ago and hated it. BUT...I now use it as a hair fragrance on can’t be arsed days, especially if I’m wearing some soapier white florals. Lifts the whole vibe into something more cheerful.

Waste not want not Grin

JanetStWalker · 06/02/2018 21:46

Haha, SoFancy, I might have bought it blind...

JanetStWalker · 07/02/2018 00:54

I might have also just blind bought Camel by Zoologist. Only a 10ml so that doesn't count, right?

I was doing so well too

PerfumeIsAMessage · 07/02/2018 07:28

My Library of Fragrance 5mls have arrived (24 hour delivery, for Italy, is pretty amazing in itself!)

Petrichor is fab- lovely lovely lovely and will be a reach-for on days when there is an element of CBA but the need for something fresh too.

Holy Smoke is nicer than Incense. Incense, oddly is very vanilla-y and sweet. Holy Smoke is more what I expected.

Mountain Air is also lovely and fresh and clean with a tiny hint of delicate flowers

Frozen Pond and Snow are quite similar, hint of Doe in the Snow but nicer because they don't turn sweet.

Clean Skin is what it says, hint of soapy Iris.

I know they are all cheap as chips very simple linear things, but these are fabulous for CBA days.

MrsGruber · 07/02/2018 08:46

Janet - Camel; excellent! Think of that as an act of communty service - it has those great reviews but I don't think anyone has posted here on it yet? Looking forward to hearing all about it. (Did you buy from Pest's link?).

Still off perfume and coffee in RL...

BluebellGal · 07/02/2018 09:04

SOTD Ormonde Jayne Vanille D’Irisjust because I enjoyed the drydown so much yesterday!

MrsPestilence · 07/02/2018 09:47

SotD JPG Fragile.
Blue Vanille D'Iris seems to be becoming your go CBA to perfume.

PIAM - love the sound of Holy Smoke and Mountain Air.

I use the Freesia, Baby Powder and Clean Laundry LoF as wardrobe scents Grin. Haven't tried many others.

SOTD is Chloe Love Story. Another one of my CBA perfumes, but usually a Spring/early summer one. I have been in gourmand-heaven since about November, so needed something fresh and floral. Its initially a bit laundry-ish (I quite like that but I know a lot of more sophisticated perfumistas don't). But the drydown is so nice for work. Neroli and a bit of a citrus, quite low sillage after initial powerful gusts.

Right, got work to do. Coffee and perfume are LIFE, MrsG - hope you're feeling better soon!

JanetStWalker · 07/02/2018 13:01

MrsG, I ordered it directly from Zoologist, one of those nifty little travel size jobs. My Elephant arrived surprising quickly considering it came all the way from Canada.

My 10ml of POAL came this morning, along with the very beautiful red travel I may have forgotten to mention, ahem. Moving on...

SOTD is TF Amber Absolute, I know TF Private Blends get a bad rap but this stuff is fecking glorious! All the good bits of SL Ambre Sultan minus the horrid herbal opening. I have 100ml bottle of this so if anyone wants to try it let me know.

MrsGruber · 07/02/2018 13:06

Thank you Janet. What do you think of Elephant?

PS. Have you tried the Tauer Amber? (He will ship the body oil to the UK and it's a bargain).

JanetStWalker · 07/02/2018 13:19

Ooh Elephant is lovely, green and lush but with milky, coconutty sandalwood. I'm not really doing it justice but it's very wearable, not as 'challenging' as many of the Zoologists. Looking forward to sharing my Camel findings!

Me and Mr Tauer are not on particularly good terms I'm afraid. LDDM is beautifully done but a tad too...something, rugged maybe? The dry down is really great though.

Sending healing vibes your way, MrsG!

MrsGruber · 07/02/2018 13:37

Sounds wonderful Janet - it's mysore sandalwood isn't it? Maybe it's time to start saving up for a five bottle travel pack - B** and Civet would be no brainers along with Elephant and Camel.

You might just like like Amber Flush - it's very smooth and polished. It has some Coromandel-like qualities.Smile

JanetStWalker · 07/02/2018 13:56

Not sure if it's real deal mysore to be honest but it's jolly nice whatever it is. Wonder if your travel pack would work out cheaper buying directly from Canada...might be worth investigating.

Coromandel-like qualities you say...that can never be a bad thing! Grin

JanetStWalker · 07/02/2018 14:05

Ambre Loup is another good one. Chewy, thick smoky labdanum, much more complex than the TF. It lasts forever on the skin.

Right, I'll shut up now. Grin

PerfumeIsAMessage · 07/02/2018 14:13

In an attempt to feel the 4160 love, I've given Doe another whirl today. I like the opening, I do. Then it goes Yankee Candle (not a bad thing as such) for an hour or so, and now it's quite a baby powdery drydown.

OCSockOrphanage · 07/02/2018 14:35

Elephant and Macaques were my favourites of the Zoologist set I have, so far. The Bt I found a bit too earthy and vegetal, and I am waiting for different weather to re-test Civet and Beaver. Will await your review of Camel, Janet* (love your username BTW).

SoTD is La Myrrh (SL) from a tiny baggie of miscellaneous samples that had vanished into the depths of my stationery drawer. It is very dry and quite medicinal; I like it once or twice a year, but it's not in the running even for a 5ml decant.

MrsGruber · 07/02/2018 15:15

I have relatives I've always wanted to stay with over there...Grin

SoFancy · 07/02/2018 15:22

Elephant sounds lovely. I haven't tried any of the Zoologists. I'll put that on my ever expanding list of must-sniffs Grin.

MrsGruber · 07/02/2018 15:45

Have you tried the two amber L'Artisans Janet?

JanetStWalker · 07/02/2018 15:48

Sounds like a perfectly reasonable holiday plan, MrsG Grin

I've tried the Ambre Extreme, it's lovely and Christmassy but not extreme enough!

MrsGruber · 07/02/2018 16:51
Smile

Am already taking DTeen on a cheap and cheeful trip to Paris to build my perfume collection her vocabulary before the GCSE.

Green - if you're out there, I'll be seeking to retrace your steps....

Judydreamsofhorses · 07/02/2018 18:39

SOTD is JHAG Mad Madame. How on earth can it be only Wednesday?
