Botox for '11' lines

DavetheCat2001 · 16/01/2018 09:33

Has anyone had this done?

Were you happy with the results, and did you have any problems with it?

How long does it last approx?

Apologies if this has been discussed many times before, but I am in a bit of a rush today. My frown lines are really getting me down (pardon the pun!), and making me look loads older than I am.

Just thinking about it at the moment, so would really appreciate any stories/thoughts good and bad!

Worth noting I ws trying to frown as hard as I could in both hence the hideousness!

Wow, dave, that’s amazing!! You must be delighted

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 04/02/2018 19:13

Wow Dave, that's a massive improvement!

Did anyone notice or complement you?

DavetheCat2001 · 04/02/2018 19:16

ha no not yet! Mind you I haven't been anywhere recently save for Sainsbury's and the school run!

I'm pleased as I tend to frown without knowing it, especially when talking to people, and I was always concious of it. It's nice to know that I can't pull such a scowly face now!

I look forward to actually putting some slap on and seeing the effect then!

Wow!!! Great results, you must be so pleased 😀

DavetheCat2001 · 04/02/2018 19:17

It seems to have improved my saggy eyelids a bit too! Grin

NotAnArtist that’s great to hear. Do you mind me asking how many years you’ve been doing it for. I’m also wondering if twice a year will be sufficient for me? I’m not sure I’d be able to afford 3 times a year.

userxx · 04/02/2018 20:18

Dave - great result 👍. What a difference a bit of Botox can make. Yep, you were definitely impatient, but all good things come to those who wait ;) I think the first time I had it done I was around day 9 or 10 when it was really noticeable.

SpiritedLondon · 04/02/2018 21:10

I know I’m late to the party but I had a hideous experience with Botox ( for my 11’s). I had the procedure across my whole forehead and the 11’s were reduced but not eliminated. Sadly though I had swelling around my eyes and drooping of a eyebrow. It was obvious because my mum kept asking me if I was Ok.... do you have hay fever etc. ( I hadn’t told anyone). About 2 weeks after the procedure my hair began falling out and my heart began racing continually. I was diagnosed with a thyroid condition that I now take medication for. When i researched the links between my condition and Botox I found an American website for people who have had adverse reactions and thyroid conditions was one of those discussed. Some sufferers had experienced problems after many sessions and some just the one like myself. I’ve no doubt that lots of people will have positive experiences to share but it’s worth researching the side effects independently so you can obtain an informed idea of what might happen - rather than relying on the practioner to advise.

DavetheCat2001 · 04/02/2018 21:50

Gosh sorry to hear about your awful experience London..sounds horrendous.

I hope you are recovered now?

It's definitely helpful to hear the negative side as well as positive stories.

Well I’m back to my old wrinkly self but still on the thyroid medication. Probably will be for the next 6 months. In fairness I did tell the Dr about the Botox and he did not see the link but there are enough accounts on the US website for me to attribute it to that. In addition I did find one research paper linking the 2 things which sadly I did not have printed to give to the Dr. Ultimately it wasn’t worth debating since I had the condition irrespective. Good luck whatever you decide to do.

Hi everyone, I’ve found this clinic but I’m obviously just nervous and hoping it’s a good place. I don’t know anyone IRL who has had Botox so I’m just wondering if anyone here would take a look to see if it looks okay before I take the plunge. I’d really, really appreciate it.

FruitCider · 05/02/2018 11:04

Hi Mummyboo, what strikes me is they are not registered with Save Face or the Aesthetics Complications Experts Group. Really practitioners should be registered with some kind of voluntary register. The Facebook page doesn't have a big following either, and it's difficult to find pictures of their work.

When finding a practitioner these questions are good to ask them:

  1. how much training have you had in aesthetics?
  2. can I see you qualifications in aesthetics and have your professional registration number?
  3. can I see your insurance documents?
  4. which voluntary bodies are you registered with?
  5. can I see untouched photos of examples of your work?
  6. What training have you done in the management of Complications?

Those questions should identify good practitioners x

Mummybo88 · 05/02/2018 11:18

Hi FruitCider, that’s very helpful thank you. I’m struggling to find any clinics near me that have much of a following on Facebook, which was a concern of mine. I’ll keep looking and be sure to ask those questions. Thank you Smile

Mummybo88 · 05/02/2018 11:19

Just on the off chance, has anyone here used a clinic in the Wiltshire/Hampshire area that they would recommend?

NotAnArtist · 05/02/2018 21:58

Mummybo88 I had it for about 4 or 5 years, then stopped for a while.
I now have it once or twice a year.
I find that I get so used to not being able to frown, I stop trying. So even after the botox has worn off, I don't use those muscles in my face very much, and so I don't necessarily need botox again straight away.
It's only about three months after it's worn off that I realise I'm starting to scowl at people again!

Mummybo88 · 05/02/2018 22:04

Thanks NotAnArtist. I’m definitely sold on the idea Smile I swear having children in my mid twenties has seriously aged me. I feel too young to look this way. I’m desperate to have it now just really struggling to find somewhere that seems a good clinic.

lovemylover · 06/02/2018 00:31

When i had my disaster i asked her if she had a complaints procedure she said yes but wouldnt give it to me,it says on her website shes insured
I have now followed consumer protection advice and sent her a letter giving her 14 days to resolve this, or will take it further
Also for some reason she injected on my upper cheek, still have a small bruise there Going to see the dentist here who i discoverd is a practitinoer, got an appointment friday, but might be charged

Mummybo88 · 07/02/2018 12:24

FruitCider I’m sorry to bother you, but you seem really knowledgable about this sort of thing. Does this clinic look better?

DavetheCat2001 · 07/02/2018 12:38

Fruit I have a question too if that's ok??

Although my lines seemed to be looking better, in the last couple of days I feel as if I can frown more again..almost like the effect is wearing off already and the lines are coming back!

Can this be right, or I just need a top-up?

I have my follow up this Friday, but just wondered if I was going mad!

All the ones I’m finding near me that are registered with Save Face or Aesthetics Complications Experts Group, are either Dental surgeries that don’t have much info on their aesthetic services on their Facebook pages (which makes me a little less confident) or they are Drs or nurses that have hardly anyone following their pages. At least NSC clinics is a national company with a big following. I feel they’d be a safer bet?

Aridane · 07/02/2018 13:59

Ahem, Dave - one of the aftercare bits of info I was given post botox was not to repeatedly pull faces / make contorted face pulling!!
