According to dh, my style is 6th form drama teacher. What’s yours?

So I do have a penchant for some ‘ethnic’ style jewellery and a billowy frock. And a bit of beading/embroidery/sequins/faux fur. I think I pull it off Grin but no matter what I wear this is what I look like. You could put me in a trouser suit and I’d still look like a art/drama teacher. What’s that all about? What’s your inescapable style?

Well either that or KS1 child as I recently got sick of my lovely but cold coats and bought a giant, longline puffer coat in startling sunshine yellow.

I fucking live for it.

LemonysSnicket · 11/01/2018 01:14

Don’t worry @SparkwoodAnd21 DP once described me as ‘sturdy’. I’ll bring a shovel.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 11/01/2018 01:16

Depends. Most days - children's TV presenter crossed with a 50s housewife, all brightly coloured swing dresses and elegant makeup. Angry/depressed days - 90s student, skinny black jeans, DS's outgrown army boots or DMs and band t with slouch cardigan.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 11/01/2018 01:20

Scruffy. Unironed clothes, scuffed shoes, unprocessed hair. I actually love clothes but a) don’t have time or money to buy many, so wear them until they are far past the point of looking like smart officewear and b) am perennially unable to get out of bed in the morning so chuck on the fastest clean thing.

Dilligaf81 · 11/01/2018 01:24

Children's TV presenter, lots of colours and I've got a bit of an obsession with mickey mouse prints. Luckily cath kidston has some gorgeous Disney dresses that aren't too childish.

PitilessYank · 11/01/2018 02:01

My style has been described as "Amish Goth."

HappyEverIftar · 11/01/2018 04:39

Best friend says I look like I exploded from the La Redoute catalogue. DH says conservative contemporary Confused. DM describes me as 'neat'.

That all sounds rather boring to me. Hmm

Argeles · 11/01/2018 05:12

A somewhat ‘glamorous eclectic.’

A mixture of mainly 1980’s, 1940’s (huge faux fur collar, nipped in at waist coats), with early 20th Century orientalism and a Dolce and Gabbana vibe thrown in.

I adore the bold colours, patterns, sequins and oversized clothing of the 80’s, with 1940’s style huge faux fur collar nipped in at waist coats, mixed with the embroidery and patterns of early 20th century Orientalism, and the ornate and ladylike, yet bold nature of Dolce and Gabbana’s styles.

I’m not as flamboyant as I used to be, due to being a Mum of a toddler and pregnant again, but everyday I dress to a certain extent as I’ve outlined above.

dorislessingscat · 11/01/2018 06:50
  1. When at work - slightly slutty civil servant.
  1. Out of work - odd job man

(I am neither a civil servant nor a man).

unbalancedBella · 11/01/2018 07:22

Rock chick meets children's TV presenter!

Basically, lots of black chunky boots, biker jackets, leather shorts or mini skirts but usually with something bright and over-the-top (coloured tights or funky top or jewellery). I'm 50 and sometimes think I should try for a more grown-up look but ... never seem to stick at it.

Bamboofordinneragain · 11/01/2018 07:40

Mafia Widow. MUST accept the fact that I’m too old to wear black ever again , but that would mean going out in my PJs to buy a new wardrobe.

SouthWestmom · 11/01/2018 07:57

On the edge meets over the hill ...

SparkwoodAnd21 · 11/01/2018 08:14

I’ll be your alibi if you’ll be mine LemonysSnicket

CauliflowerBalti · 11/01/2018 11:31

Tired plump mum wearing whatever's comfy and not too dirty, always in jersey.

Or

The bits Florence Walsh tries on then hands back to the woman in the changing room.

There is no in between. Frumpy, or failed glamour.

Megs4x3 · 11/01/2018 12:22

Style? What's that? I've occasionally had people compliment me on how well 'put together' I look, but I've no idea how. I spend next to nothing on clothes so have a very small wardrobe, lots of accessories I make for myself and a few pieces of lovely discreet jewellery that my lovely DH has bought for me or I've made for myself. I guess it's just 'Megs4x3 style'. :-)

Megs4x3 · 11/01/2018 12:24

Bamboofordinneragain - you're NEVER too old for black! :-) :-)

MeadowHay · 11/01/2018 12:28

Yeah I think probs first year uni student here as well, I dress the same apart from now I have smart clothes for work as I work in a law firm and need to be wearing suits and that. I am only 24 though so it was not that long ago for me.

WhoDoDatLikeDat · 11/01/2018 12:29

What a brilliant question, OP.

When I work at home I look like a "bag lady". Today I'm wearing grey and yellow woolly trousers with snowflakes on and a bright pink hoody. I haven't brushed my hair since walking home from the gym with it wet.

When I walk the dog in winter I look, according to my DH, like a "posho on a walking holiday". That's funny because I actually wear my old school shoes (Rockports) and school coat (Berghaus) which I had at school because I was a massive chav. Now I'm over 30, my carefully crafted "thug" image has transformed into a posh middle-aged hiker.

When I go to work, according to DH, I look like a "foreign exchange student" because of my huge backpack, my glasses, my funky hair cut and the fact I always look lost for some reason.

At work DH once got mistaken for a window cleaner (he's actually a very senior academic) so I don't know what that says about his style Grin

MeadowHay · 11/01/2018 12:32

Haha this is me a lot too. Although I no longer have a funky hair cut but will be returning to one when I can pluck up the courage to try a hairdressers - have HG atm and don't feel good about my odds of potentially vomiting in a salon what with all the smells. I deffo always look lost though.

FizzyGreenWater · 11/01/2018 12:52

Cosy hag

Johnnycomelately1 · 11/01/2018 12:56

Well my sister once said

"Johnny, you remind me of Kate Moss"
"Oh thank you sis. That's kind"
"Yeah, because you actually suit looking a bit rough"

So I guess "faggy mammy" is my style niche.

ifigoup · 11/01/2018 12:57

Nordic toddler, here.

clarabellski · 11/01/2018 12:59

Love this thread - have enjoyed reading all your stories!

My DH often calls my style 'star trek extra'

I like sorta futuristic tailoring and interesting fabrics. Although colour wise I am very much 50 shades of grey/black.

Numberonecook · 11/01/2018 13:13

Id love to be the living in the country joules/walking mum but in reality im slightly overweight mum who likes a boden sale. Usually in skinny jeans and a large jumper or Bretton. No matter how nice my hair looks when ive brushed it within 5 mins it looks scruffy.

DH says I look like a slightly chubby mum from Jeremy kile but with nice teeth Hmm

HairsprayBabe · 11/01/2018 13:21

DP says I dress like a long lost russian princess or an elf from santa's workshop that got a bit lost.
